1.
That human's 'nature' adapts to the environment or is otherwise swallowed up by the environment or those others competing for the same resources.
For another thread methinks . So what have we learned today? lol Si
2.
No. He's a c*nt.
You're faking 'discussion' because of the context (environment?!) of this thread Si
3.
Isn't Mark King wonderful !!!!!!!!
:-D Precisely No such thing as human nature imo, only environment Si
4. Of course discussion it's wonderful.....but I do have to say that it's always strange to me having a discussion arise from a negative ("I don't like this") as opposed to a positive ("Isn't this great"). Although what is said in each instance is often very similar, one usually holds a much cooler vibe than the other Si
5. Indeed, always listen to things you don't like....You'll always learn something Si
6.
It's mostly the distance between articulation and retrospection that matters though.
Well of course (If you mean what I think you mean), some people can't release a single song or album in their life no matter how long they're at it because they despise what they are creating straight away, they're constantly re-evaluating it. I'd suggest that often (not always), it's their motivation that is affecting their output, not their articulation. Si
7.
I've not met, nor read of, a musician that likes everything they do. To me, it seems like it's the quest that's so rarely achieved, and when it is, most of what generated that feeling doesn't last very long. And thank f*** for that.
I'd argue that most artists love what they do at the time, it's only retrospectively that they may re-evaluate the output, and that is often after they realise their motivation wasn't quite right at the time. Si
8. Well, I suppose I can't know that for sure obviously But he certainly strikes me as the kind of human/musician that only pursues things that he loves, of course that is my own opinion of him. I know a few people who love what they do, because it's not in their programming to pursue anything else, fame, glory, success etc, which dilutes your art. Some people luck out with that formula, but those that don't.....don't care, because they're happy with what they do Si
9. Well VW likes what VW does, so thats all that matters Si
10. We're certainly not suggesting that the musical aspect of VW (any any other slapper) isn't subjective, but it was suggested earlier that what he is doing is 'random' or just punching his bass.....when of course it isn't. It's carefully selected technique applied with skill and plenty of study, that you don't click with the same aspect of the music that he does isn't out of the ordinary. But yes, instead of tarring him with one brush, dig deeper and find out what he's about, not just what the masses latch onto Si
11. Usually they'll go for anything between £450-£650, depends on condition, the actual model, things like that. If everything is mint and all the 'case-candy', good condition case etc etc, probably closer to the £650 perhaps. If it's got a battered case and there's scratches and dings on the bass, closer to the £450 mark. Si
12. Z is USA, so it will probably just be a standard. A picture will help, but if it's just solid colour/sunburst, dot markers, passive (Vol/Vol/tone, possibly with S1 switch)....thats a standard , great basses! Si
13.
Yep - this fella is superb;
...and I'd put money on him citing VW as a major influence .....along with Flea of course lol Si
14.
Itks not so much that he does the punching of his bass, its the people that like it. While I'm not classically trained and probably know nothing about composition, but those fast bits are totally cold, void of any feeling and happen randomly towards the end. Coupled with the punching, it jst makes me want top listen to JLS, or some equally processed tosh that the producor and marketer have decided everyone likes. I like to think I know my way around a bass but if I, or you, started smacking muted strings people would think its sh*t and that I'm crazy. However because this guy had 1 or 2 success and is supposedly talented he gets away with it.
I'm sorry, but subjectivity aside, you're completely missing the point. There is zero aspect of randomness about any clip that Wooten or anyone at his level plays, everything is chosen and pre-determined, thats the level of their facility. Now the subjectivity comes in when you disagree with their choice of how to voice a certain note or technique. Nor would I say it's cold, while you may not appreciate the musicality of what VW does, I absolutely don't agree that it is free from groove, ignoring your preference for melody & harmony, it grooves like a monster. I don't have too much time for 'solo bass', there are very few occasions where I think it works. Neither do I go gooey at all the slap-happy pyrotechnic skills that many possess, but knowing what I know about Wooten's playing & musical philosophies, dammit I'll defend him lol. Si
15. Oh just everyone go and watch the damned DVD , and then listen to this India.Arie – Summer, yes its Wooten Si
16. Regardless of what you think of his slap stuff (by his own admission its just pyrotechnics), watch his tutorial DVD 'Groove Workshop', guarantee you're opinion of him will change. Si
17. Yup, I would personally steer clear. £600 would easily get you a 2nd hand newer model Fender Precision or good quality copy (Lakland etc) Si
18. Would the scratchplate not have been the 'mint-green' seeing at it's a custom colour!? Beautiful bass Si
19. I approve Very cool bass, I'd really like to gig one at some point Si
20. I think they'd actually be ok without the scratchplates, like a more 'trad' version of the old FMT basses. But yeah.....I'm not bowled over by these. Si
21. Thats cool, didn't know that! Si
22. Really aren't many of these about at all, lovely bit of history Although the pickguard is original.....really needs to be a vintage 'mint-green' guard with the (stunning) Sonic Blue, it really is my fave custom colour! Good luck Si
23. Anyone can quite happily pick this up and get a great sound. More than enough low end and plenty of gritty growly options, I just found it MUCH more useable 'in the mix' than the ODB-3. Cool Si
