1.
Seems to be a lot of inconsistency in this thread. I'm not suggesting that a spare PA system is practical, but it would be consistent with the arguments about being professional and being able to ensure the show goes on. I suspect that a lot of people take a spare bass to a gig simply because they happen to have more than one rather than it being a carefully thought out strategy. After all, who cares how professional the bassist has been in duplicating all their gear if the PA fails and the band can't play the gig.
Believe me, we take a LOT of spares....a show will always carry on Si
2.
It's a lovely melody to transfer to the bass. I'm only assuming he got the inspiration to do it from Victor?
Thats what I love about Victor, he'll fluff a run and just go with it and just pull it back to being fantastic! Fantastic OP vid too, the guy can seriously play, clearly he wouldn't be pulling this out on a gig, but the musical facility he has is inspiring Si
3. For me, it's less to do with what my gear is doing and what I'm doing with it. By that I mean I don't take a backup in case something breaks down or I break a string (which hasn't happened in 5 years), I take a spare because it's external issues I worry about. What if someone barges into your gear just after you setup, breaks a string, worse....breaks the neck, no gig for you . A fight breaks out, beer gets thrown, soaks your pickups, crackle crackle boom lol, etcetc I know they're all things that very very rarely happen, and if you're playing nice chilled acoustic cafes or big stages where no-one comes close to your gear, its fine....but I'd rather be setup to carry on the gig than look a bit of a lemon because I took one bass to a gig and left one at home Si
4. People are just generally gonna tell you what they like/play.....best thing to do is take your Orange to a shop and try out the pedals. Better yet, borrow some from people and gig them, sound so different on a gig!. Me? I have a Copilot FX Orbit for weird sounds, and a Boss Mega Distortion for more conventional overdrive/distortion, both do exactly what I want them to Si
5.
Sounds ace Si - I must get me one of those thumb things... sounds and looks cool
Thanks very much mate, yeah its a good little toy....although I find it very useable not just for 'silly' sounds, I like the expressiveness I can get that I would perhaps struggle with by using expression pedals I also referred to your 'How to do a video' thread, so thanks lol Si
6. Wanted to do a little demo of the dubstep board, so thought I'd try a video: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D24sVPLsSnw Sounds are: Intro/Chorus: OC-2, ME-50B (Slow Gear, Chorus/Reverb) Verse: Same as chorus but with SourceAudio BEF Drop: OC-2, ME-50B (Distortion, Chorus, Whammy), CoPilot FX Orbit, BEF Cheers Si

Best Octaver?

All about the OC-2, I find it incredibly musical. I have two, a Korean one and a Japanese one , because I have one on each of my two pedal-boards lol Si
9. Follow Steve on Twitter etc.....so much good stuff comes from him, not just the music Si
10. Try and get those root-five-octave parts going from the original bass part, they make the part bubble . But good stuff, I've been playing 10 years, and I still struggle to sing and play, kudos !! Si p.s. Just heard you doing the full part during the guitar solo
11.
Bass Merchant, maybe they sold some of their stock over?
I think Bass Merchant took most of their stock to a shop in Brentwood....not sure which one. Si
12. So I made a VERY rough demo of my board, mostly to get to grips with the Source Audio BEF w/hot-hand. Still figuring out what is possible, but at least this gives you a musical context. http://soundcloud.com/simonpoulton/picture-live-bass-demo Cheers Si
13.
Here's V.4 of my 'dubstep' board:
I made a VERY rough demo, just to get to grips with the BEF in a musical setting. All a bit rough, but you get an idea as to what is possible with the Hot-hand: http://soundcloud.com/simonpoulton/picture-live-bass-demo Si
14. Here's V.4 of my 'dubstep' board: Recent additions are the Source Audio BEF w/ Hot Hand & the Boss tuner, which I'm essentially using as a quick killswitch when I have the Volume on the ME50b in Whammy mode. Audio samples real soon Si
15. I have to say....and I'm sure its just down to how I listened to the samples.....but every sound was very very similar?! Looks nice though lol Si
16. Please post a price ASAP otherwise the listing will have to be deleted. Thanks and good luck with the sale Si
17. I've got two Compacts. I mostly use one, putting my MarkBass through it, probably around 300w or so, I've never wanted for anything more. Plenty plenty loud enough for small & medium gigs, and large gigs I have PA support. When I put 500w through both Compacts...phew it sounds huge! Huge enough to convince Shep to buy his Barefaced Si
18. Manual?? Where's the fun in that? Si
19. Shep, the midi in on the Slicer, I'm assuming the tempo can be controlled via laptop into that? Does it then quantise any tapped devisions to sit within the Midi-controlled tempo? Also (Shep isn't allowed to comment), I've ordered a yummy pedal today, now just need to clear space on the pedal board, i'll only be on Board V.4....so still catching Shep up Si
20. Was gonna start a thread, but searched this one. I'm going to this on 19th....two dates now?!, anyone else going on the Saturday? Si
21. Keep them in their (hard) cases, micro-climates ftw Si
Someone always has to come in a say "the fans always want the same album and thats boring etc". That's cack. Who wants the same album churned out over and over again? No-one. Ghost reveries is completly different to Watershed - totally different drumming style (i.e new drummer), softer songs and completely different guitar solo's (i.e a new guitarist).
I was talking very broadly, in that the two albums are definitely by the same band you know, there's no vast deviation between the two at all. I'd say drumming and guitar solo styles is quite specific, it doesn't affect song structure or the vocal. Again, I've not heard the new album, but I suspect they just wanted to throw a complete curve ball, grow and evolve their sound as they, as people, have no doubt grown. Bear in mind that they have done the acoustic album as well, so they are prone to more chilled moments. Who knows, maybe the next album will be all screaming Si

Opeth

Arrogant? Thats the last thing I would have described them as?! I remember reading an interview where they were perfectly happy stating that all their fans were geeky boys playing games workshop (or soimething to that effect), they've always come across as very good humoured to me!?. I've not heard the new album, but its always the case that when a band tries to evolve themselves to keep themselves interested in music, the fans will say "oh we want the same album again". Lets face it, Ghost Reveries and Watershed are pretty similar...although I love both. They were always gonna change it up. Saw them on the GR tour and thought they were stunning live Si
24. I'll have a stock list too please Although I'll probably pop in on Saturday as I'm back that way, anyone else down on 12/11/11? Si
25. Yus I should think I'll be going, enjoyed this years! Si
