1. I think I'm gonna be going for the Focusrite Saffire Pro 24 DSP, check it out. The different mixing environments sound really interesting, mostly because I'm going to be exclusively working with headphones (KRK's) Si
2. For anyone into their vintage fenders (no moaning about prices please ), check out these guys across the pond. They've just come back from a vintage trade show it seems......if I was rich!! http://www.kebosbassworks.com Si
3. You know I'm into my passive basses Nige, but the only bass i've had in the past where I thought the preamp was genuinely a worthwhile addition had an 18v 2band East Preamp. If I went down the active route again, I'd be using another 2band East! Si
4. This is the video that put me onto her: Si
5. I'll chime in my usual here! I used to play a lot in C, F, Bb, Eb (Drop C Standard), I used 45-105 strings and had pretty low action and normal tension.....how?....higher tension strings! Use whatever gauge you're comfortable with then get a tension to match your tuning....of course this is generally not offered by most string companies who spout on and on about 'thicker gauges being necessary for low tunings'. Check out Newtone Strings who I use, they'll custom wind you anything for the same price as Elites/Rotos and cheaper than DR's etc. Just tell them your needs and they'll hook you up Downside of higher tension strings, is that you can't really tune them up to standard EADG, you'll banana your neck as you snap the strings. I had two basses constantly setup in Drop C standard, so thats why it worked for me. Si
6. How cool is that?! She won 'Best New Artist Of The Year' over Drake and Justin Bieber! She is definitely my musician crush :-D Si
7. Have to say, I've NEVER done a gig where I've NEEDED a 5string....it may well be a preference for whatever reason (odd keys, a low note or two), but its never been a deal breaker as to whether I did the gig or not. I have a great 5 string, I don't feel the need to take it to particular gigs, I just use it when i feel I want too. I don't agree that its the standard in "most music"....guys like Pino, Marcus Miller, Wooten, Jaco, Duck Dunn, Hub Hubbard etc etc are all sidemen who do big big tours etc, probably have 5's, but 4's are their go-to instruments. Si
8. Are these vids anywhere else?, they don't seem to be playing on my mac!? Cheers Si
9. I've had my: '03 Jazz for around 6 years '73 Jazz for around 3 years '09 Jazz for around 1 year '83 Jazz for around 1 month The first two for me are keepers and have done a LOT of gigs with me. The '09 probably is for as long as I need a 5string, I can't see it being bettered as it's just the 5er version of my '03. The '83 is an unknown quantity just now, liking it and is a fairly rare birth-year bass.....but still gelling with it. So yeah, I think there is a thing as a keeper, as long as you're genuinely happy with it......that happens when you forget about the bass at the gig and just hear the playing/music Si
10. My passive Jazz into my amp (no POD rubbish ), I've never had any problems with fitting into any musical mix Try it without the POD! Si
11.
How could I not post this ...Greyboy Allstars - Still Waiting http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RXlnZC--pbI
This is so cool, and I love the video. For me, so much funkier than the Alain Caron vid! Si
12. Might be worth uploading a picture of the filled in rout?! Also, what is this WTS system? I assume its a retro-fit mod, what does the work entail? Si
13. Differing opinions are welcome, and indeed necessary......close-minded, rude and insulting people are not.....sometimes they go hand in hand, usually they do not Si
14. http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=121885 Si
15. They're arriving imminently Straight off out to a gig, but can't wait to sit down later with them.....even if its just to listen to music in bed lol The real test will come tomorrow with Logic Si
16. Omnomnomnomnom Is it a custom shop?....Seemingly a '62 vintage/reissue, but its got a 70's logo and 3 bolt neck? Colour me confused Si
17.
Do people ever wonder if, as a breed, we bass players are not a little bit f***ing awkward?
Yup, makes you wonder how any of us are actually playing doesn't it lol Si
18.
I was looking at the KRKs, I use the RP5s for monitoring so I'm a big fan. I understand the the main difference between them is that the 8400s have a volume control and nicer padding on the earpieces. The 8400s have a little more bass response whereas the 6400s are supposed to be a little bit more neutral sounding. I was looking at getting the 6400s, there are some good reviews out on the web if you search youtube. I freaking love First Signs of Frost mate, are you planning any releases in the near future?
Haha cheers mate, FSOF keeps popping up in my life via random people, even though we haven't done anything in about 2 years We briefly discussed doing a few reunion shows, but Dan is very busy with Tesseract and everyone else is busy with other projects also. I think it will happen, just not sure when Yeah the KRK's were my first choice simply beacause I love their monitors whenever I've sessioned with them, but they're not an option in my flat. I also get a very good price, so thats why I'm looking at them over other brands just now Cheers Si
19. Can anyone in the know tell me the basic difference that I might find with these two models (yes I know it basically relates to frequency range).....anything else? http://www.krksys.com/krk-headphones.php Also any other suggestions? Cheers Si
20.
Any reason you think that, or is it just a taste / looks thing? I'm considering a new bridge for my jazz because the current one has seen better days and was considering a badass? xx
Have to say, after having a Badass on a jazz for a good year or so, I didn't really notice any difference to my other standard Jazz bridges.....and they are bit ugly.....well not ugly, but I don't think they suit the aesthetic of Fenders if I'm honest. Si
21. Wish I could come tonight, but I'm in central. Hope its a massive success Si
