1.
I got to have a brief play of this on Saturday, really nice 'vibe' to this bass, great colour, those White pickups are really cool and the neck feels really nice
Cheers buddy, really good to meet you and have a chat, how was sunday? Si
2. Should backup my suggestion shouldn't I Si
3. GB were one of the main culprits for the slap filth lol Some stunning basses, but I generally stayed away on account of the noise....as thats all it was Si
4. Post London Bass Show bump for new pics, including come of the case! Cheers Si
5. +1 for the big band stuff!! Birthday Concert is amongst my fave Jaco recordings!! You also get arrangments of a few songs he wrote in Weather Report where Zawinul (bless his heart) isn't fiddling all over them. Also, how can you not like A Remark You Made from Heavy Weather, beautiful track Si
6.
I'll just be there on Saturday now Looking forward to it M
Good to have a chat again, enjoyed it at the last bass bash Si
7. 1983 Jazz........which I own......which is for sale! Si
8. Sunday bump, forgot to mention that this comes with a small, non-original hardcase. Will take a pic asap Si
9. Think I'll be there on the Saturday with funkyveed, I'll be able to spot Dood at the very least lol Si
10. I was under the impression that '63 cases tended to be the white tolex....specific to that year!? Si
11. Swampy Si
12. Found this buried on my hard drive and thought it'd be cool to share. I know it's not a slappy tappy affair, but I always loved the general sound and vibe of it. It's an ME-50b into an Akai Headrush E2, so all live/looped.....mistakes and all lol Enjoy: http://soundcloud.com/simonpoulton/cry-well-catch-the-tears Si
13. I knew I recognised the bassist lol....... Nice one, fantastic band Si
14. Very cool, nice to see the bridge in use! Si
15. Yes Gjones is right, it's 70's spacing. This bass and my '73 are both approx 34mm between bridge and pickup, my '03 (60's spacing) is approx 46mm. It would certainly explain it's 70's-esque tonal qualities. Cheers Si
16. Pics up Can get more for anyone as necessary, there's not too much to show really, the odd tiny ding, the odd lacquer swirl etc Si
17. I certainly get what you're asking. I would say the '83 has a lot more in common with my '73 tone wise, than my '03. I know for sure that my '03 has 60's spacing, and tends to sound a bit more rounded, whereas the '83 seems to share that 70's-esque nasal quality on the bridge pickup. Having said that I haven't noticed the pickup spacing, so will take a look tonight Si
18.
Sorry you couldn't get on with it mate, it seemed a nice bass
Oh it's a great bass, stunning to look at, really fast neck, genuine Jazz tones.....I just haven't bonded with it enough to not sell it in favor of a 70's Precision lol. Plus as I said, my '73 Jazz is just the go-to bass
I will get a YOB Jazz one day but this one will have to pass me by
Do it, it's definitly cooler than a Jaguar Cheers all Si
19. For sale is my 1983 Fender Jazz that I bought from Tom1946 in December. The only reason for sale is that I have my eye on an old Precision, and I haven't fallen in love with this enough (even though it's a 'birth year' bass) to keep it.....I just keep reaching for my '73 J. Sienna Burst, slim maple neck, rare (for the era) two piece scratchplate/control plate. An example of this can be seen in the 'The Fender Bass: An Illustrated History' book, page 79. Obviously the funny shadow here is my reflection, not the finish The case has some bumps and scrapes etc, but perfectly useable....actually it's quite nice to have a hardcase that doesn't resemble a rifle case lol. This pic is from Tom and edited by another BC member, I can't remember who lol, but hope its ok to use When I took the pickups out for the bridge to be rewound, thought it looked cool lol, although the iPhone makes the burst look a bit rubbish. It's genuinely a stunning finish. I paid a tiny tiny bit under 1k for this, it's in very very good condition for a 27 year old bass. I had the bridge pickup rewound by Wizard pickups as it was seemingly an open circuit when I received it, plus 1 new pot which replaced a dodgy replacement lol. Also comes with a small, non-original hardcase. And so price is [s]£1000[/s] £950 + p&p, but collection/meet up very much preferred Cheers Si P.s. Had the neck off and this is October '83
20. I've been in my covers band for nearly 7 years.....what's wrong with me? Lol Si
21. Very cool Si
22. I've not played this, but Clarky is an absolute dude, so deal with confidence that this is a stunning bass Si
23. I just bought some KNK KNS8400 headphones, well worth a look at around £139 I think. Si
24. Sorry bud, I'm gigging Have a good one, we'll do dim sum again soon Si
25. Why didn't you take an amp? Lol Always found it odd (as a touring bass player at times), when bands don't turn up with gear. Very cool u got the gig! Si
