Anyone have this measurement, I'm interested in how they stack up in this area compared to Wizard 84's Preferably from an American Fender within the last 10 years Cheers Si

I never suggested it was for a want of pop-soul, I suggested it was to provide oneself with a credible form of great music that has been taken off-course by the vast majority of 'mainstream' artists. You're right, I have listened to a fair bit of D'angelo this week with my behind the beat remark , but I stand by my opinion that Neo Soul is a genuine modern take (therefore incorporating modern cultural aspects, hiphop etc) on old soul music, a more thoughtful execution of it's chart-focused breathren perhaps. Si

Play really really behind the beat lol I personally see 'neo-soul' as the musician's antidote to what has essentially become 'chart rnb'. It has become a credible outlet for those who want to like modern 'soul' music but don't want to be labeled as 'mainstream' pop-lovers. As a result, the artists often capture the real essence of the genre's they're approximating, 60's soul, motown etc Obviously you can see that I don't particularly like labels when it comes to music (or art in general)....but necessary for essays I guess!. Obviously notable artists are Raphael Saadiq, D'Angelo, Me'shell N'degéocello, John Legend perhaps Good luck Si
Or the "million notes to four people, or four notes to a million people" jazz versus rock joke lol. At the end of the day, the truly awful bass players are the morons who think they know best. Making comments about how you could "play something better on the fly" or putting other bassists down because they play something "simple/easy" (such as Clayton) is just a mixture of jealousy, sheer arrogance and naivety. Being a great bassist is not about how many notes you can/cannot play or the standard of your playing. It's about being humble, respectful to fellow players and setting yourself challenges to improve your playing. There will always be someone out there who has achieved more than you (regardless of how "easy" there playing appears) and who is a more complete player than you and similarly, you will always be better than someone else. A truly great bass player realises this and uses his acquired skills to help players who are behind them and respectfully seeks similar help from players who are ahead of them.
Huge +1 Kinda surprised me that this thread even got started really Si

Dotfunk at the Jazz Cafe - featuring Paul Turner

Yup I went last time and it was great. Seems odd that they'd choose a Saturday to put this one on when they know a fairly substantial part of their audience is other musos lol. Si -
Which, according to dollartimes.com, is worth about $1727.59 in 2010. Interesting Si

You're right, it's been posted a bazillion times I actually think he's amazing, all that rubbish he's doing (for a laugh), and he doesn't drop a beat or change his velocity at all!! Ultimate control of his playing! Si

The bridge pickup on my 1983 Jazz Bass seems to be really weak/quiet and as a result the neck pickup seems very boomy and over-powering. At first I simply thought "well I'll just drop some Wizards in", because thats what are in my 1973 Jazz (albeit custom winds) and I really like them. Then I thought that if it's just the bridge pickup that is just under-powered, I could just have it re-wound. So.....Is there a way that I can measure the outputs of the pickups while they're still in the bass? I have a meter, but I'm a bit of a layman when it comes to things like that Any suggestions? Si
In terms of a band, and the music industry.. let's be honest, that is BS!.. People are judged. Sometimes it benefits you, other times it doesn't. It's not a job in a county council
+1000 Let the guys search for the bass player they want!. If you don't agree with the spec, chances are you wouldn't want to be in the band! Si

Ummmm: - Barefaced Compact......but that doesn't really count as I've already paid a deposit, and it's nearly ready I think lol - I've an idea for a Shuker build....maybe in the summer if the idea is still sound Other than that, I love what I have Si

Andy is totally fine now (the issue with playing live is well documented), still writing and recording lots, a rather prolific writer really. I hung out with him a fair bit when I was dating his daughter a couple of years ago, a more stand-up guy there could not be . Some amazing tunes, although I prefer the middle to late career! Check out the Fuzzy Warbles collections! Si

Yes I very much doubt I'll be getting to mine tonight!! Hopefully Monday's will fair better! Si

I used to tune C standard....so C, F, Bb, Eb I used high tension Newtone custom strings (around same price as Elites/DR's etc) I told them my tuning, and my preferred guage (which was 45-105) and they made them for me! Simples Had similar tension to that of a standard tuned bass, with a similar action. Its all about tension (core size), not guage! Try Newtone Strings Si p.s. I have no affiliation, I just think they're spot on!

Very nice! I wonder how much that cost! Si

Everyone is just gonna recommend what they use lol....so I'll stick with that! I love my US Fender Standard Jazz 5, stunning bass and no need for silly batteries Si
