You just gotta have a play and see what you think with your own ears! From what I gather the roadworns have the 70's pickup placement, ie the rear pickup closer to the bridge, and the American Standards have the 60's placement. The Roadworns have a thinner finish obviously, which some attribute to a tonal difference. Buy yeah, you just have to sit down and compare them yourself, preferebly through your own amp, and even more preferably in a gigging enviroment, although this is usually not possible. Si

Yes the first run of JV's had Fender decals and small Squier ones! The Serial matches to an early '82 JV, although I'd want a photo of the neck plate with readable Serial number. Could be nice, would wanna try it first though. My mate just bought a JV P and the truss rod needed to be glued Looks like horrible pickups and you probably won't find an original anytime soon. Wouldn't wanna pay much more than £500 for it! And what are 'Entwistle-esque' strings?.....are they coated in cocaine? Si
I like a playable bass that sounds great. If it fails either of these, what't the point in having it...? That said, I'm almost totally immune the the effects of different neck profiles. My J and P are polar opposites, but I adapt to whichever no problem.
This sums it up for me! Si

Yeha, definitly looking for something that isn't heavy. I say I'm after Full Range because I'm not bothered about the 'sound' of different size speakers...if that even exists (Alex says it doesn't )...I just want a cab that will give a full sound regardless of speakers. But again, I'm kinda coming at this as a layman really, I've spent 6 years playing one type of cab, so aside from the 6 gigs or so I've done with the Barefaced, I've got no gigging time with anything else. Cheers Si

regarding Valve amps and the super twelve.... What about amps with tubes in the preamp, but solid-state power amps?? Thanks Si

That fingerboard is a bit rubbish isn't it! Rest of it looks nice though Bet it's got a Fender Logo Si -
I think lightweight is a must currently. Thanks anyway I'm guessing my lack of understanding will be my downfall, are all bass cabs full range? Si

Would like to *Try* and keep sizes down! But thanks, yes I'm aware of Barefaced as an option, what others are on the market? Not sure, £500 perhaps, I don't need anything super mega high range, just something that competes with the sound I get from both my Ashdown 4x8 and 1x15.....in one cab . Si
I guess the headstock makes it seem bigger. I love the stevie wonder live albums, Nate watts sounds amazing. Great tone.
On the O2 Arena Live DVD, Nate's using a 'Bossa' Si

Thinking that I may...possibly..... look at a new cab. I love my Ashdowns, but thinking of something that can push a bit more air for my originals project. I'm a bit of a noob with cabs, I've used these Ashdowns for about 6 years and not wanted for anything else. So with the exception of doing a few gigs with the touring Barefaced Big One & Compact, thats all I've gigged in that time! So I think I'm after a full range, front ported cab, not fussed as to whether it's 4 or 8 ohms, my Orange head is switchable. Not fussed on speaker sizes. Would prefer to stay light-weight and small, but I understand there's a limit. I basically need something that will handle low B's nicely, and some synth bass without breaking up. Choices? Cheers Si
And I just HATE Japan Reissues for vol/vol/tone knobs in '62 Reissue Jazz Bass! There should be stacked knobs arghh!
The changeover to 3 knobs from stacked was completed in '62, so perhaps the Jap RI's are a transition model Si

But most of the Japanese ones I've seen have that horrible red tort scratchplate....which I find odd because it isn't a replica of the '62!! So factor in another £40 to make it look good with a brown tort plate Si

Surely John East will have some samples?! Failing that, Beedster on here has the P-Retro in a couple of his Precisions Si

Basically got given an SD-1....I have no use for it so am putting it up for trade Not entirely sure what I'm after, whatcha got? Any useable/interesting effects, good power supplies perhaps.....umm, a hardcase with money from me depending on quality perhaps. Anything goes if it catches my interest No Distortions, synths, strings, tuners, straps etc The pedal is in used condition, but works perfectly! Cheers Si

Madness to pair an Orange Bass Terror head with a 300 wt T.Elliot cab?
Sibob replied to unclebeesly's topic in Amps and Cabs
It would seem unlikely to me that you would get close to using the full 500w of volume, are you playing huge stadium stages? lol Yeah you'll be fine, usual advice, if something sounds manky....turn it down and look for a solution then! Si -
To be fair, they changed their name on Ebay the day of the Music Ground liquidation! But yeah, clearly still in dreamland! There's a '65 CAR Precision or something that they're selling on the 'bay, and the action looks like you could walk under it! Si

Yeah, dead spots will do it, you get a dead note and obviously the pedal can't track it, so glitches out. Its odd that its ANY D though, if I have a dead note on my OC2, I can just play it somewhere else on the fretboard and its fine! Si

Yes please list a price for a sale here, or if you're not willing to close the auction for a private sale should one arise, I'll move the thread to 'Ebay Links' Many thanks! Si

It's important to remember that Jameson's technique was born out of him playing upright for a number of years. It wasn't to get a sound, it wasn't to be flashy, just who he was! . Sometimes I cop the one finger technique, but only usually to get a particular tone that I've found I can achieve with it....not to sound like Jameson. Si
