1. Malcolm really takes the time to figure out what you need, although sometimes he'll put you onto his bass guy for more in-depth bass chats There's a long turn around because: 1) They're in demand 2) Your strings are custom wound, not picked off the shelf packs The best thing to do is order a few packs at a time, I think they have now introduced a minimum order. I don't know for sure because I always order a few sets to make the most of the long wait time. Si
2. Yup, I think they're that good! Si
3. Wes, out of interest, how are you getting on matching colours from the old Fender Custom Colour list?. Do you only have access to the popular ones, or are you able to fulfill any of those old colours? Cheers Si
4. Nate is definitely playing a Bossa, has done for ages now! Si
5. It still amazes me how many people lump ridiculous gauge strings onto their bass in order to droptune well. All you need is higher tension strings!. I was using 45-105 strings in C Standard (C,F,Bb,Eb) with an action and tension similar to standard tuning, due to high tension strings*. Give 'Newtone Strings' a call, tell them what tuning you're in, your preferred normal guage, and they'll try and work out the best avenue. Custom wound strings, usually the same price, sometimes cheaper, than off the shelf brands that are not wound for purpose. Si *Bear in mind that much higher tension strings often won't go up to standard tuning, they're wound for droptuning.
6. I hardly see how Stevie is 'compromising' in any way!?. He's been doing his thing, his way for years and years and years....whats wrong with upping the show!? I could hear the bass perfectly fine, but there was a definite drop in the volume of his synth! It looks like he was playing a 4x10 Hartke cab (couldn't see the head, probably Hartke), and his bass is a Bossa Si
7. It's bloody awesome, classic songs played by a genius who hasn't aged at all really.....except his walking around?!?!...if thats what floats your boat! lol And what I love is that musically it isn't perfect, there's the odd timing issue, the odd little missed note etc....that gives it life for me!. Si
8. In what way? Si
9. The Chinese built Hofners are great, but it may have been a proper one: http://www.thomann.de/gb/hoefner_club_bass_500_2_cv_as.htm Si

Effects Chain help

Basically I have very specific sections in songs for various effects, so I haven't currently haven't written anything that requires Fuzz and Wah together...but yes I agree actually, it would probably be a good synthy sound. I've nothing written that uses Fuzz & Delay, although I have used it to great effect in the past with some solo bass stuff. Actually the fuzz/delay combo is here: http://www.myspace.com/simonrpoulton First track......my myspace is so old and overgrown lol Oh and if anyone is interested, the second track is exclusively Bass and Drum machine Cheers Si
15. My mate desperately wants this haha! If you know anyone who wants to buy his Custom Shop BC Rich and Ibanez 8 string guitars!....he'll have it Si

Effects Chain help

Ok thanks for that! Again, I can't see myself running the Wah and Fuzz together (although who knows in the future). Cool, as long as one way doesn't sound loads worse than the other....only different....I can live with that! Cheers Si
17. Ok so need some help with my pedal board! (I'm new to effects basically). I can find suggestions on google for the order of different effects, but one of mine is multi effects, and its frying my brain a little bit. I'm running an A/B switch into an effects loop, the effects loop can either run straight to amp, or via my ME-50B, Octave & Big Muff. Its this loop I'm concerned with. Obviously I have Octave and Fuzz effects there, then I'm running Bottom Boost, Chorus, some Delay and some Wah on the ME-50. What order should I have the Muff/Octave/ME50b in? I think currently I have it: Octave>Muff>ME50b I wouldn't be running Octave and Muff together Many thanks Si
18. Mine has plenty of growl and clarity, it certainly isn't muddy, but yeah darker across the strings....but I'd just call that "more even" Si
19. I can't see Steve Vai hanging out in the Bass Cellar much..... But I get your point! Tal Wilkenfeld for Leia? Si
20. I have slightly overwound 84's in my 1973 Jazz. I wouldn't want it any quieter to be honest, its about the same output as other stock 70's fenders I've tried. I wouldn't say they're super dark, it's quite even across the strings, highs don't pop out loads, so keeps everything smooth Si

23.
Thanks mate. It's fantastic. If i could put an engine in it, a seat and put wheel on it, I'd drive it!!!
You'd still need a clutch though! Good luck buddy Si
24. Agreed, the Neck plate doesn't look right! And I think technically speaking, the case should be white if its an original '63 case Doesn't look like an era accurate refinish, but still, if it was all original 4k would be good money for this (half off for a refin). In fact, sure the neck plate is fake: 80,000s to 90,000s 1963 90,000s up to L10,000s 1963 L10,000s up to L20,000s 1963 There is that dash on the left of the number, but if that was part of an L, it would be too high! Si
