1. What you say doesn't surprise me. I loved the woods and finish of my CV Jazz when I had it, but it did sound pretty uninspiring on gigs! Si
2.
Not a lot really, just the pickup, I need to hear it first...... But as I've said I'll have to give it a go first and see. (hear)
Thanks for saying that, it's a proper pet hate of mine when people say they want to change the pickup before they've heard (or even received) the bass lol Si
3. This is a quote from another thread relating to the new new new Fiesta Red Classic Vibe Precision: "Well that is an easy one, I did ask the gentleman on the phone when I was ordering mine, what does it say on the back of the headstock and he confirmed that it's the same as the other 3 Classic Vibe's i.e. "Crafted in China". in fact except for the colour there are no differences in quality and parts. It's exactly the same as the Sonic Blue Precision." I'm genuinely interested to know what your 'friend in the know' thinks of this Si
4. I'd be really interested to know if these new ones say 'Crafted In China' on them, in relation to another slightly controversial thread! Cheers Si
5. I think there's a guy on the forum who is 'endorsed' by them.......says he quite happily put down his Fender to play them. Si
6. If for any strange reason you were to sell the pickups and/or bridge seperately.......lemme know Good luck Si
7. I assumed that the Fiesta Red that we know (the pinky colour) is just a faded version of what it would have looked like back in the day!?. Si
8. Where did you find the originals Clarky? I wanna get some for my '73 lol. Have a bump for the Wizards, they're what I've got in mine at the mo. Si
9.
Hi Si, Have you lifted the G string around 13th fret & run your finger along the underside? Cheers, John
Cheers for the ideas guys! John, you think it might be a manky string?. They're new, although cheap (not Newtones), so I'd hope not lol. I'll try having a closer look to see if there's any frets higher than others etc, it's my OLP Thingray bass, so a bit of a frankenstein/project, so I don't mind having a go at 'dressing' the fret myself Si
10. Hurrow! I've just taken my second Drop C bass back to standard tuning after a number of years, and while I'm happy with the setup (ie no buzzes or rattles anywhere else, neck is basically straight with just that tiny bit of relief that Jerzy Drozd suggests lol), there is one note that is buzzing horribley. It's the High G# on the G string (13th Fret), notes either side are fine, and on different strings on the same fret, but that one note is yuk, buzzy and dead. Is it a funky part of the fret that needs attention perhaps? It doesn't look particulaly knackered, no more than the other frets. I can't see that it's lifting from the fretboard or anything...... Any ideas? Cheers Si
11.
the problem is that the other bandmembers are not thinking ahead enough, i feel, and i wouldn't know how to aprach them wih my concern.
For me, this is a reason not to tour with this band yet. Everyone needs to be on the same page, with their wits about them Si
12. Bare in mind that when you use a pick, you often get a more trebly sound anyway, more attack and less bass, so by having a pickup that is more inclined to those tones could take it a bit far and start sounding thin! EMG's are always considered to sound a lot more Modern. Dimarzio Ultrajazzes are also excellent, High Output, plenty of top, mid and bottom! Si
13. Just had Bootsie from Cort into the shop, and he mentioned you'd had a couple of the Axe basses! They lookpretty fun, although the bridge cover was an odd 'vintage' addition in my opinion haha! Si
14. Did '68s have lollipop tuners? Looks lovely though Si
15. Given that a refinish is generally seen as 'half off', would you see yourself paying £2500 for an all original '78?......uhhhhhh no! I'd be looking to pay £800-£900 TOPS without covers and original case, and thats with a good refinish, if it's something that needs to be redone, I'd be taking that off the price too!! But then I'm a picky bugger lol Si
16. Looks like a lovely bass! In some of the pictures, the strings look quite far over to the treble side of the neck, off centre as it were. Is it just funny angles? Or a high action?, but looks off centre with the dots too!? Si
17.
I know how you feel - they don't call it 'the cold light of day' for nothing. But don't let 'The Guilt' obscure the fact that it was simply a case that your reach exceeded your grasp. In your ambition to inject some jollity into the proceedings, your musicianship took a hit. Happens to us all. By all means practice your material till the blood seeps from your eyes - but maybe try doing it stood up and throwing some moves. 'Show' is much to be encouraged and the intent cannot be faulted, even if the outcome left you plunged in deepest woe.
This is the other thing! People go to shows for 'performances', on the most part anyway! If a player dropped a clanger but was putting on a good show and had a laugh about it, you generally wouldn't care less huh!. Can't think of anything worse than someone standing dead still and looking at their instrument just to nail their part....how boring! Of course the trick is marrying 'The Show' with 'Your musical performance' Si
18.
As I've said before,I don't think that consciously avoiding looking at the 'board is a good idea-you are really just limiting yourself. As you play more you will naturally become more aware of the 'board and stop looking at it as much-it comes with familiarity. Everyone looks as the 'board at times. Purposely looking away is just another variable that you don't need.
+1 Si
19. You know what, everyone makes mistakes, even the best musicians in the world......but the trick is being at a level where you can turn it to your advantage, or make it work! It's cliched, but Miles Davies' famous quote of "it's not a mistake, it's an opportunity" really rings true for me personally. Yes practicing more will make you more confident, but mistakes will always happen, it's just how well you react to them! Si
20.
He lives in the south Newcastle area, I think its a village called Greenside, near Blaydon, as in the races. Dave
Cheers dude! I'll just await the extra pics then! Si
21.
Hi - any chance of a clear close-up of the headstock logos, and a slightly clearer pic of the neckplate & serial? JOn.
Have already asked for them! Still don't know where the guy is based either, after 3 times of asking! Si
22. I think a lot of it is being at home and comfortable with a bass, if you're used to where on the neck the notes are you'll hit them without looking. If you're then playing a bass where the notes are in a different place, due to more frets, bigger/smaller body etc etc, then you're fighting an uphill battle, especially if you're swapping mid-set. Si
23. I would vote for keeping the Stingray. I'm although I'm a proper Fender fan-boy, it's only really their passive basses that I think are ace, they make pants preamps!. If you fancy an active Jazz, get a standard and put in an East preamp of some description Si p.s. and off topic: Raggy, you get my PM?
24. I wish it was easy to find a Lindert 6string neck, then I could just have yours and swap the necks :-P Si
25. Still gutted this isn't a standard 6string Lindert, the only ones me and Hols can find for sale are being sold by r-tards lol Si
