1. You missing something is that you (seemingly) think these players automatically put 'Jazz' over 'music' just because of their ability! Thats what I'm seeing anyway! If you would choose Jazz over anything else, then fair enough.....its a shame because you'd miss out on a lot....but don't think that all these players are the same just because they can shred Si
2. My point was that these guys don't get to the top of their game by disliking very much, they're the kinda guys who love music....they don't hear genres. Perhaps their preference is for Jazz, perhaps they just get offered more Jazz gigs compared to straight 'pop' players because of their level of ability! Si
3. 4000 beat me to it! Si
4. I think the OP's original post indicates that they believe Jazz to be better than all other Genres, or certainly thats their preference as opposed to other more 'simple' music. The reason I say that is because they don't seem to be able to accept that perhaps these players LIKE playing their pop gigs. If the guys hated it, I perhaps think that their careers would be shortlived through bitterness. I can honestly say that I'd be very hard pushed to not enjoy any gig, Genre aside, I think if you're truely a fan of music, you'll find an aspect of any genre (if you think about music in that way) to enjoy! Same with these guys, I bet you Garrison and Gwizdala don't see these gigs as Pop/rent over Jazz.....they see it as fun whilst getting paid. Si
5. I've been pretty happy for the last couple of years really, I've had peripheral basses come in and out, but my core MIA Jazz and '73 Jazz and now MIA 5er Jazz have made me very happy. My Ashdown mini 48 & 15 are awesome, my ABM500II is brilliant, I've started to really like the Orange Terror, but only because it has a similar sound my Ashdown....at half the size and weight ha! I've also recently discovered Precisions , so loving my Japanese Squier, and perhaps....maybe....another Precision soon Si
6. Bump for the following specs added to the OP: Nut width is: 42mm String spacing at bridge is approx 18mm (string edge to string edge) and also extra pics of the case (should it be required), flame on fingerboard, headstock (sans decal), underside body damage (worst example on the bass), small impact in neck. I've had one or two people after the case on its own, this is a special £15 price if included with the bass, if the purchaser of the bass doesn't want the hardcase for that amount, I'll sell the case for £25 Cheers Si
7. They have to pay rent like the rest of us, consider the Jazz gigs as 'originals shows' and the TV/R&B gigs as covers shows! Quite normal I'd say, pop gigs are fun, its not all about playing 17 notes a second over tri-tonal substitutions Si
8. Some offers/interest here and there, but still available I should mention that the neck width is similar to that of a Precision, fairly wide, but still very playable. I can try and do some sound samples if you want, but my personal opinion is that by the time I've recorded it DI, you've streamed it as an mp3 out of your PC speakers, it's going to sound wildly different than plugged into your <amp brand>....but its your call. This is why I advocate trying it yourself I'm in and out of London all the time btw, so thats not an issue if you're based that way Cheers Si
9. Thanks Si! Yeah, I think the battery rout, pickup and East preamp cost me £200! So thats the Schaller tuners, and a bass for £20 lol The East is lovely, actually the only active preamp I've ever gotten on with! Cheers Si
10. Anything that is chambered I would have thought! If you have the budget, a chambered Swamp Ash custom of some sort!?, and you can still keep the design traditional! Si
11. Would you sell your boss octave? Si
12. Just a tiny bump for the added part ex ideas: - Boss octave pedal - maybe an Orange Bass Terror with money from me Cheers Si
13. £800 on a bass that you'll grow out of in a year or two?.....very odd! Si
14. Hi all Continuing my little clearout I have my OLP 'Thing'Ray for sale! It's a stock OLP Stingray (albeit with the decal rubbed off) with the following mods: -Bartolini pickup -John East 2-band, 18 Volt preamp, active/passive pull pot on the volume, parallel/series switch -Schaller tuners I'm not sure what wood the body is, it's a good weight, probably 9lbs ish but can double check. I would normally assume it's basswood, but I was under the impression that basswood had very little grain!?, and this has grain in abundance. The body has some bumps and dings in line with a bass that has been heavily gigged, but nothing too serious, the lacquer is pretty thick! The fingerboard could do with a little clean (I'm not really o fey with cleaning maple), it has some flame in it and some tiny flecks of birdseye on the headstock. Nut width is: 42mm String spacing at bridge is approx 18mm (string edge to string edge) Think thats about it! I have a rectangular hardcase that I'll include for £15 I will post, but I would prefer collection so that the potential buyer can look over the bass in person I would also consider a part ex for an octave pedal, preferably a Boss OC2 or OC3......I would MAYBE consider an Orange Bass Terror as well, obviously with money from me....but that depends on another possible purchase in the pipeline. More pics in post #13 below Cheers Si SOLD PENDING
15. DO it Dave.......................Do it! Si
16. I'll bite..........have you got a weight for it? lol Looks lovely though! Si
17. Second gig tonight. EQ still flat, no need to touch anything really, again, tiny bit more gain than volume. Used my MIA Jazz bass (which is the best Jazz I've ever played), tone all the way up, bridge pickup all up, neck pickup about 1/2 up I think. Similar to last night, fantastic!!, bearing in mind I'm using this into an 8ohm cab, it's got volume and tone in abundance. I'm not sure what the issue was with the other member here who was complaining of it lacking low end, I find it very full across the frequencies, nothing is lacking IMO. Jack.......I may not give it back lol Si
18. Still loving this thread, keep up the good work! Si
19. I have to say, I've never played a Lakland that blew me away! The 44-02D I had was very polite and not very inspiring, the DJ I tried in gallery was boring as well! I think I just don't get them! Si
20. Phew, thought this was going to void the one I've just bought....book that is. But no, way too early for me lol Si p.s. You get my txt about that thumbrest Jim?
21. So had my first gig with the Terror last night, just an intimate little pub gig, plugged into my Ashdown 4x8. I was using my '85 Japanese Squier Precision, and everything sounded great, I was using the EQ pretty much flat, tiny bit of mid boost, but only just. Had gain a touch higher than the volume for a tiny bit of grind, but nothing 'distorted'. It all sounded fantastic! Another gig with it tonight which I'll use my MIA Jazz for I think, so we'll see how that fairs! Si
22. You're basing the quality and consistancy of todays Fenders on a bass that is 34years old? It probably just wants a good clean and service, but yes, the mid-late 70's Fenders were inherently heavy! And are you not sure what the brand is? even though you've said Precision. I'm not making sense of some of your post lol Si
23.
[email protected] by any chance?
Now that would be silly wouldn't it Si
24. Naa, he's a Hotmail boy Si
