1. Starting to get a real 'Wycombe-&-surrounding-areas' contingent now aren't we haha! Si
2. PM's replied to . I can't really tell you why I keep coming back to my MIA Jazz, a completely stock Jazz I might add. I can't put my finger on it, the sound of it, the way the neck feels, everything just comes together and I relax when I play it.....tis an odd one. The only other bass that I've ever played that I've had anything near that has been my '73 Jazz, but even then I'll still pick up my MIA 80% of the time. Although to be fair, the '73 needs a refret and new strings, so its not fair comparison haha! Anyway, yeah, this is getting more interest than I anticipated, I'm gonna play it tonight at my gig (the whole gig, as opposed to a few songs, cave in and pick my MIA up), and makle a decision! Funx Si

4. Gonna say it again, baring in mind you seemingly haven't played the bass that containt the pickup you're looking to replace, what elements of the original are you trying to improve upon in a gigging situation?. That will help to narrow down the field a bit! Si
5.
If this was a Jazz nut width I would have taken it off you...
The nut width on my MIA Jazz i like 38 or 39mm My '73 i a lot less, around 36mm Si
6.
I'll be at the Stables gig on Sunday - I've seen Jonatha solo there before and was delighted to see that she was bringing a band this time, even more so when I saw it was Gail on bass.
Ooooo, maybe I'll try and get to The Stables, do you know if it's sold out.....I'll check lol *edit* Not sold out Si
7. Bugger, I heard about these gigs from Steve Lawson I think, but forgot to chase them up, now I realise the London date is on a night when I'm gigging! Poo GAD ftw Si
8. What's wrong with the stock pickups? Just thought I'd ask! Si
9. That's a very cool looking Jazz! Nice and understated as custom/fancy wood builds go! Si
10.
Point of information to raise. If you have an '08 or prior CV (serial number starts with 08), which is stamped 'Crafted in China', then the body is not made of basswood, but of alder. Apparently, sometime in 2009, production was shifted from China to Indonesia, with a change in the specs, including a change from alder to basswood. I had a friendly chat with someone here in Florida who works in the instrument manufacturing industry, and who works with the factory where these basses were made (in China). This particular factory uses the same wood supplier as the Fender Custom Shop, and in fact has much larger wood stocks than Fender. Wood choice and quality control is apparently top notch, and basses cost more to produce at this factory than others in Asia; hence Fender's move of production last year to Indonesia. I handed my bass today over to Jeff Berlin's tech for the work I mentioned previously - right enough, he confirmed it was alder. Guess that explains the weight on mine - 9.5 lbs. I'm not sure what the '09 CV models sound like. But if you can snag an '08 that says 'Crafted in China', then you're on to a well built bass with good wood quality. Pretty much exactly the same as what many bassists of yesteryear would have played on.... No wonder Fender shifted production, I'm sure they literally cannot afford to make a bass this good at this price point. In passing, I note that OutToPlayJazz's CV was an 08/'China' model.
This is very interesting, the CV's seem to have been introduced around March '08, so nothing prior to that?!. I purchased my CV in the latter part of '09 absolutely new, and it was a Chinese made instrument. I imagine if the original ones were made of Alder, Fender would have made a big song and dance about it!? Si
11.
is there any chance you might sell for cash, if so, how much would you be looking at?
I've now bumped the thread with a £400 price, but reserve the right to bottle out haha
Is it expensive to get a custom neck made by John Shuker? It looks absolutely stunning - I may need some time alone!! andy
This neck cost me £220, but thats with Birdseye fingerboard and binding options. So would be slightly less without those, but more if you wanted say block inlays, fancy wood neck, more frets, mult-laminate constructon etc etc Si
12. So back to Warwick Standards then lol Si
13.
My CVJ is a stunner, no noticeable difference from the USA Standard Jazz I had before.
I would go along with this except for the pickups, my US Jazz sounds a lot better!. Possibly the tuners too, the MIA tuners are a lot nicer, but the CV definitly do the job well. Si
14. Yup, my American Jazz has that routing under the scratchplate around the neck pickup......but who cares. I'm playing a bass that sounds and feels awesome, who cares whether it looks like Jaco's lol. When I had my Squier CV, I remember the cavity being very tidy. Didn't think the pickups were great, but then it's a £250 bass, for that price you get a LOT of bass for your money, so you might have to drop some new pickups in it. I also found the pots to be excellent, and I didn't find it any noisier than any other single-coil bass. If it's truely not to your expectation, why not get GAK to replace it? Si
15. Are their strings made to order?, or plucked from a shelf Because I know that when I order from Newtone, they can take upto a month to come through, because they're being wound for me. Could be something to do with that!? Si
16.
then if it isn't the bass the serial number makes it out to be file a "significantly not as described" claim on eBay.
From the ebay listing: "NOT ACCEPT RETURNS AS I DONT KNOW WHAT TYPE THIS IS SO I AM NOT SELLING IT AS SOMETHING IN PARTICULAR" Hmmmm Si
17. Hi all, I find myself in the posession of a completely new and untouched Allparts Jazz bass neck! No neck pocket holes or tuner screw holes. Meaning you can fit it to whatever body and with whatever tuners that you want, without having extra screw holes everywhere. New these go for £321 and are currently out of stock with Allparts I'm offering this at £250 I can take pictures if you want, but it's as stock and is mint/new condition Cheers Si
18. We got through to the semi-finals apparently! So there'll be another chance soon.....probably in April or May I think! Good to see you again too dude! Si
19. Definitly don't see it as a reflection of you or the bass mate, I'm sure the price is completely fair, but 3170 Euro's is still £2767, and thats a loada cash lol. Good luck with it! Si
20. Have you tried replacing the battery? Si
21.
I have a custom made fitted case for my bass...... BUT it is guaranteed to 30,000 ft they said.
What.......dropping it?? Si
22. Haha, that's right, we're both in Camden for the evening! How could anyway resist??? Si
