No problem. It does say Germany on the website but they also cover the UK as well. Im all for supporting my local music shop, and my last two basses were from real shops but i also feel safer using Thomanns as if i cant get to try something out first i know i wont be stuck with it. You cant say that about most shops. When i was looking around for my OW Fender P5 all the shops i called over here said they can get hold of them but i would have to buy it and couldn't return it as it was a special order. and these were shops advertising it on their websites.
Yeah, it's tough catch-22! Music shops on the most-part haven't really reacted to the internet, in a similar way to record labels haven't reacted to digital music. I actually tend to buy most things second hand it as to be said, but I try my best to 'buy-local' Anyway, we've veered! Si
Ummmm, well as i said, ive used them a few times and ive returned two basses and one amp so........
Sorry, missed your initial post! I've never used Thomann, mainly from an ideology standpoint. Support your bricks-and-morter music shops etc. But at least they have decent returns policies in place! Si

Ummmm, no?. It says that the shipping is free within Germany. "United Kingdom = 10.00 EUR" Although just read that: "Free shipping on orders of 199.- EUR and more." I love my 2009 Jazz 5 Std. I even think the pickups are great!. To be honest, the Sadowskys are obviously great, but they're active. If I wanted an active Jazz 5, I'd get a Sad, if I wanted a passive Jazz 5, I'd still go with my one! Si

Gutted! I jest Just put in an order with a shop mate and when Fender next get a delivery....can't be that long!?....you'll be sorted! Si

Voxpop bought a 2010 OW model from Reading Guitar Works just recently! Although I'm sure he mentioned that it was the last one Fender had in stock....or something!? Si

I maintain that, pickups aside, these basses are the best 'budget' instrument I've ever seen! I've moved mine on now, but thats more to do with my love affair with my MIA Jazz, literally won't let me play anything else haha. But the amount of people I've put onto the CV as a 'starter bass that will last forever' is immense! Si

Cheers very much for that Silddx, and was cool to meet you! Although now I feel that I over-play haha, hopefully it was all tasteful and appropriate! But yeah, that's a decent summary of the bass's tone!, my personal problem with it is one of those things that you can't put your fingers on. I used it a lot when it was in Drop C, but that is because it was serving a very different purpose, now it has direct competition/comparison with my MIA Jazz. I'm just not feeling it. Si

So since taking this bass out of long-term Drop C tuning, back into standard, I haven't really been gelling with it. The original build thread is here, with final pictures on Page 3: http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=11502&st=0 First of all I will say, and some of you may know from the related thread, that this bass has had a truss rod repair. I over-adjusted the original and it gave up, so it went back to Jon Shuker for repair and it's all fine now. I could spend time changing pickups, bridges etc etc to get it to click with me, but when I have my MIA jazz that does it instantly, I'm left just wanting another bass like that haha. Anyway, a brief spec is: -Refinished MIA Jazz body, nitrocellulose finish -Shuker Jazz 21 fret neck - Rock maple, Birdseye maple fingerboard, black binding, graphite reinforced, medium-jumbo frets -Hipshot Ultralite tuners -Badass II Bridge -Dimarzio UltraJazz pickups -Stack knob controls (vol/tone & vol/tone) with pickup switch (neck/both/bridge) There are some pits and indiscrepancies in the body fom the original condition of the body (first post of the build thread), but most have been sanded out as best as possible, I don't think I can capture them on camera, but can try if neceesary. There are also four smal screw holes surrounding the bridge pickup that haven't been filled, probably from a pickup surround on the bodies previous incarnation. I won't part this out! I think around £400 would represent the work and parts that have gone into this I'm also after a fairly specific trade, an American S1 Jazz Standard with Rosewood fingerboard. Thats a hefty post for a feeler lol Si

Jim, I would also like it to be known that I endorse you! lol Si

I think I may have tried this like 4 or 5 years ago at the london shop. There can't be THAT many mocha brown 70's jazzes in Denmark street. I actually really like the colour......what's the damage on the back?....just a sticker and some paint gone?? Si

Pro Player Ian KIng - Does He Ever Visit This Site?
Sibob replied to StevieC's topic in General Discussion
Yup, nice to hear from another pro a bit more often! And I do have a soft spot for the new Take That tunes (oh and Million Love Songs...tune). Ian don't suppose you know who has the bass chair on Wicked at the moment?, saw it the other week, and although you don't really expect any less from pro players and written parts, the playing was excellent! Si *edit* Actually I do remember looking up the name in the program at the time, but was unknown to me, should just check again when I get home haha -
A lesson that i learned, the stupid way,was...................you can not make a Thinline Telecaster into a double cutaway, because they are HOLLOW..................i must say that my dad was jolly well upset, that i had ruined said late 60's/early 70's Fender. It was 30 years ago.
OUCH! I somehow feel a lot more at peace with the Truss Rod accident I had the other month! Si
Yes, it means he knows full well it's a fake-up.
I'd be inclined to agree with this conclusion Si

I was asking Jon Shuker about a Zero fret when I was commissioning my Jazz neck from him. He said that in his view they're not really needed if enough care and skill goes into setting up the nut properly. Not saying I understand the pro's and cons for either argument.......just relaying what he said Si

Yeah I fixed that pretty quick sharpish.....seemingly it's all about you and me today haha Si
