1.
Doh!! My mistake. I thought that was a mirror not a tv!!
Haha, genius, it's funny what things our eyes can make us see. So I gigged the 5 saturday and sunday just gone. Saturday wasn't amazing, the action was too low and pickups too high, I wasn't disappointed as I know it's quite often the way, the first gig is for tweeking the setup. So tweeked it sunday, only subtle changes obviously, raised the action a pinch, bought the pickups down. Now it plays beautiful and really sings! Really happy Si
2.
I have an EXTREMELY important question, can you buy pickup covers/ashtrays for the five strings?? I'm kinda sad that way
I've never seen them from a parts company. It might be that one of the luthiers who offer 5string Fender type basses could fashion one!? Si
3.
Hi Si, According to my bass buddy (who also had the earlier cabs before these) says that in his honest opinion there is no compromise on sound with the new Neo cabs & in fact, because they are front ported - he feels that they sound even better, giving a deeper bass response when needed! I also had the original Mini's & although I've never actually owned the Neo ones, I've heard my friend use both types and IMHO I would have to agree with him - a much improved bottom end, with no loss of the punchiness & clarity these cabs are famous for. cheers for the bump, Tim
I did wonder whether the new bottoms were porting or just aesthetics. It's interesting that my only tiny gripe with the original ones is that they were rear ported, hmmmm. Also potentially interested in whether these would be split!? Cheers Si
4. Cheers dude! Yeah I had planned a project similar to yours, but it never got off the ground. I'm so happy with my current setup that I might as well let someone else have the fun! Si
5. Ah was the male singer Daniel Pearce (sp?) then? With a mini-mohawk maybe!? If so, yes, One True Voice, was on this years X-Factor also. He's from round my way, Wycombe, great voice and showman, also a very good drummer! Si *edit* just read the lineup on the first page again.....yes it seems to be him, very cool
6.
Is that it?
I think it's just a bit of tongue-in-cheek jealousy Some lovely, although I'd be scared to take any of them out haha! Si
7. Rest of the pics! Si
8. Some (bad) phone pictures Some general pics, then some pictures of the various lacquer dents. The worst is on the back, first is a close-up, then is a body shot with the dent circled to give the size of it. There is a Lacquer crack on the neck pocket, but nothing serious. The last 'dinks' are a series of slight lacquer dents on the upper arm bout, I've tried to photograph them, but they are very difficult to capture. They are just impacts, but are there. Cheers Si
9. Just popping this to the right forum Si
10.
I really meant *variety*. If you can play everything from Mustang Sally to Biffy Clyro then you're probably on the right track. I certainly don't advocate a completely overhaul of the set list - more some creative tweaking.
In which case.....agreed Si
11. I've got the Dimarzio UltraJazzes in one of my......well.....Jazzes lol They're fantastic pickups, and pending them sounding how I want them to in standard tuning (that bass has been in Drop tuning for a while), I'll put a set in my '73 too! Have a bump Clarky, what 70's jazz have you found? Si
12. I find it odd when people say you have to have a certain type of set list for weddings! You can't decide what songs you'll include until you know who you're playing for, or even until you get there! Most of the people getting married now are 25-35, and so they want pop/modern rock. Yes there are other, older guests, but for the most part, people are younger at these things now. I rarely (and I mean RARELY) play any disco/funk music at weddings. Each function is individual, so although we get booked from people liking what we do (and so rarely have to change our sets drastically), we're always ready to swap songs in and out as necessary onstage. Like was mentioned above, you just have to br prepared and good at what you do. I should also mention that we're just a 4 piece, one guitar, band.....not a 'wedding' band. Si p.s.
Just to reinforce what others have said. It's not something to take on lightly and not an easy gig. You *all* (and I absolutely do mean all of you) have to have the right attitude. It's all been said before but you have to go in with a "what if" and a "can do" attitude. In particular if something goes wrong you*have* to fix it. Also it's not about you - you have to keep smiling no matter what. If you are not 100% about all of this then don't even think about it.
Although I disagree with your setlist comment....in principle anyway....this above is massive +1
13. My band does a lot of weddings and functions etc, and ALL of them are word of mouth and people seeing us at both public shows and the functions....it's a domino effect! I know that doesn't help much, but the trick is to play plenty of public shows, we're out usually 2 times a week as a band, not including the guitarist and singer going out as a duo, the sheer amount of gigs means that people are gonna see us and want to book us at some point. 2 Years ago, we had very little function work, 80% public work probably. The last two years have seen it go to maybe 60/40 public to functions, possibly even 50/50, it's that domino effect at work. We don't have any 'press packs' or demo CD's, never done wedding fairs etc. We have some videos on youtube, but most people who book us have either already seen us, or we do enough shows to be able to invite them to see us! Si

Really sad news Si
15. I find it so bizarre when bands still fall for the "you have to pay the PRS fee's" It's disgusting that the venues even try it, let alone get away with it! Si
16. I don't know about other companies, but Fender have just put their prices up! Si
17. In the background? That's "How I Met Your Mother", you know.....that Friends ripoff that is actually quite funny sometimes! I'm really happy with the bass so far, just some bedroom playing etc, have a gig tonight and tomorrow though, so will be taking it out with the 4. Marc, what white bodied one did you order? an older year? or a Deluxe? Si
18. If it's anthing like the '09 Standard 5 I just got hold of.......or like my '03 Std. 4....this will be amazing Si
19.
http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=73167 - any interest there?
Afraid not mate, sorry! Will get pics up asap! And give you a PM when I do! Cheers Si
20. Bumped as it's now setup in standard tuning (from Piccolo) with new 30-85 Rotosounds Also completely cleaned up as best it can be I think. I'll get some pics up asap! Si
21. Yeah maybe let him know that his prices a tad high!? lol http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showtopic=74355 Si
22. That's an American Deluxe Jazz, according to Fender's website it's only currently available in: 3-Color Sunburst, Amber, Olympic Pearl, Montego Black (Urethane Finish) If this Orange colour was a factory colour (I don't know), then you're only hope is to find a second hand one. My guess is that it' a custom colour for Chris Wolthemshwotwowhwoe, so you're only hope there would be to have a Custom Shop bass built with that finish. For that you're looking at around £2,200 or roundabouts. Or buy any jazz you want.....and have a good luthier refinish it! Si
23. Not a great deal I'm afraid! My rough guesstimate would be about £400-£500??? The neck isn't really worth anything to anyone with a non-original fingerboard, tuners you could perhaps sell on for £200-300?. Pickups maybe £100-£200 Anyone else? Si
24. This is becoming an odd thread. If anyone has any personal issues, please keep it to PM's!! This thread is for selling the OP Olympic white '64 refinish Jazz Eye on the ball guys! Cheers Si
25.
Good choice, I was looking at this, but I think im going to go for another 4 and leave the 5's to a new Classic Series Ray. The new Fenders are great
Yeah I think if the new Classic Rays had been passive (no reason why they would be), they would have been a serious contender. But I have a massive soft spot for Fender Jazzes, so this was a no-brainer! I think I beat another Basschatter to it though.....so if they're reading this......sorry! Si
