1. Is it Happy Jack's Lightwave Sabre that you're getting? If so, it's a real beauty! Si
2. Is anyone going to Jon's? Wanna check up on my neck that's (hopefully) having a new truss rod? I don't wanna chase him, nor am I, but I wanna know how it's doing! lol Loving the fanned fret still, awaiting the pics! Si
3. Had the Compact for the first gig last night, pub setting, low ceiling, plenty of people (Richmond O'neills). I'll post some more in depth thoughts when i've done some more gigs with it. But first impressions are great! Enjoyed it a lot more than my two gigs with 'The Big One', perhaps it's just the ommision of the midrange driver. Had good comments from the rest of the band as well, especially the Drummer (who's a very good all-round musician, not just a tub-thumper...great ears). The venues I'm using this for though are quite different from the gigs I did with the Big One so it's a little bit of an unfair comparison perhaps. I have a silver hardcase that I carry my cables and Ashdown head around in and my cab always sits on top of that to raise it off the floor and closer to ear level. Because the Compact is taller than my Ashdown Mini48, my 'rig' was taller and therefore closer to my ears, and due to the 15 moving more air (I assume), I really felt the punch in my back....nice feeling! Comments included, "Full" & "Punchy". All my frequencies were there in abundance, never did I feel that I was lacking anything for using a 15" speaker!. The overall tone was a little bit different than my ashdown, not quite as tight sounding, but it didn't detract at all, like I said, still sounded nice and punchy....just different to what I'm used to. Anyway, gig 2 tonight Si
4. I've tried one (I think......the one with 5 'styles' on a rotary control)!? Sounds great Not very loud at all IMO Si

2009's gigs

109 for 2009, that's two bands (although FSOF only did one tour and a few one-off shows). So mostly pubs/functions/deps etc Got 86 booked for 2010, but hopefully that will be more more more!! I'm very much hoping to secure the (EUB) bass chair for a singer/songwriter in London, which could lead to some nice tours abroad.....massive fingers crossed Si
6. Because I'd like photos first and foremost, not a lovely conversation! Si
7. Hey all, I just borrowed a Clifton EUB from a friend of mine for some shows and he informed me that the pickup is "one of those ones you plug in and charge"!? A cable came in the pocket that is jack plug to mains, and he said something along the lines of "plugging it in for 30 secs charges in for around 3 hours". Is this kind of pickup ringing any bells with anyone? Anywhere I can get some more info? Cheers Si
8.
deffo a refin though right?
Well either the guy doesn't know what he's got and it's a super rare custom colour. Or he knows what he's got and he's priced it as a refinish, which a grand is about right IF everything else is original (point about the nut noted). He hasn't even emailed me back though, I asked for neck pocket photos (for refinish clues), neck stamp photos, and serial number/neck plate photos. So either he's ignoring me or he's taking his time getting me photos lol Si
9.
Ashdown probably think that their target market would be impressed by that kind of thing
You are, of course, the one who posted about it though! Si
10.
this is beautiful! hopefully my tax rebate will be here before this goes!
I predict April for your tax rebate Si
11. I think a lot of it is just what people are used to in their everyday lives. A human expects something lightweight to be flimsy, our brain fills in the gaps in infomation. Im borrowing the southern compact currently and I shan't be pulling any punches with it. Two of the three gigs I'll be using it for will be loading in and out of a van, and I shall be treating it like I do my heavy Ashdowns. So we'll see, looking forward to it after my few gigs with 'The Big One' Si

13. M00p, wrong time of the year for me! Si
14. Have sent an email, we'll see what comes back Si
15. Also the Barfly, but neither they or the Underworld book their own gigs! It's all booked by external promoters. Best bet is to ask similar bands to you their Promoter contacts for that way! Si
16.
Thanks Si, Having paid via Paypal i did look into a dispute etc, As it's been so long there's no record of the transaction ? Cheers J.
Have you not got the email from paypal saying the payment went through? Si
17. Again, using Shuker as an example (other luthiers are available!), I ordered a custom neck from him. 4 months later I was on tour with it! I'd be asking for my money back in this instance, regardless of how far down the line the build is. Principle is an important thing! I'm also not one for complaining, or rushing things, but communication is extremely important in a transaction that is as personal as this! Si
18.
After meeting Sibob in a car park in Bracknell, he's now in possession of the southern Compact. Enjoy.
It was a nice car park though! Si
19. From what I've been told on here, the LM-Tube isn't very grindy. The Shuttle is apparently much better at tube overdrive/grind Si
20. 3 tone fo sho! Not aware of Fender ever doing a 2 tone Jazz?! Other than a CS custom colour perhaps Bump for a great looking bass though! Si
21. The Nash I tried at The Gallery was fantastic, nicest of the Jazzes I tried there on that particular day! Think it was a 60's model, heavily relic'ed though. Si
22. Alex, do you think a Midget would make a good cab for upright bass or EUB? I'm sure you've probably discussed it before but I can't remember seeing it talked about. Or am I just falling into that "12's are the best for upright" pre-conception? haha Cheers Si
