1.
If you want lighter gauge, but still have enough tension to make a sound, order some high tension strings from Newtone, they can do stuff with the core.
I'd say +1 to this! But I shouldn't think you'd have any problems just going down to D Si
2. Hey dude! I know we've had a couple of comical too-and-fro's about my '73, but why exactly do you want an early 70's Jazz specifically? (or even a Reissue?) Have you just tried broadening your search to any MIA Jazzes, bearing in mind that pretty much each bass can vary greatly. Although I very much love my '73 and it gets played a lot, basically it's not going anywhere just yet, my 2003 MIA standard beats it to the number one spot. I've never ever played a bass that has bettered it for sound and feel, including Laklands, US Sadowskys, warwicks.....whatever!. All the '73 needs is a bit more TLC in the way of a refret and some new pickups to get it up there no-doubt, but my point is that my '03 is a completely stock, out the box MIA and blows everything I've ever tried out the water. Si p.s. Just popped this over to 'Bass Guitars' too
3. Very very nice indeed! CLARKY!!! lol Si
4. Fair enough, and to be fair, I don't use enough (or any?!) effects to have a decent enough opinion. But my limited experience with cheap effects is that they don't track as well as higher end gear. Obviously I understand that there are exceptions, cheap Choruses and distortions, compressors etc, people like......but effects that require decent tracking, like detuners, usually benefit from being of good quality. Si
5. You get what you pay for imo Si
6. Mike Dimin has some nice chordal melody pieces on his website. Oh and you can get books of Bach's Cello Suites arranged for bass Si

Something that Steve Lawson pointed out to me at my last lesson was is the concept of: Is it right? Is it good? Obviously too different things that require subjective thought Si
8. Loving the white Precision! Si
9. Yeah I can understand blending an octave-down signal with an original signal, but not blending a normal signal (say an E) with a signal that is only detuned 2 steps, that would be a low E with a low C blended in.....yuk! Si
10. I think the only blend possible is on the octave down (the furthest light on the left), not sure why you'd want to blend the original signal into a step or two steps down etc.....would sound dreadful lol. They look like they're coming in at about £149 Si
11. The Morpheus Droptune looks very impressive on guitar, seems to track full chords very well. I'd be extremely interested to see if it worked on bass! Si
12. Sorry if I've completely missed this elsewear, but are you lacquering the basses too, or just leaving them painted? Si
13. The 'South East' bash is generally held in Surrey around November time. But that's not to say a London couldn't be held by someone Si
14. And back atcha! Si

16. May well get along to this Si
17. At a guesstimate, around £15 for courier!? Si
18. I've got my Squier Deluxe 5 string sitting here, and although it's well built and sounds great, I kinda feel myself wanting to upgrade to an MIA Jazz 5 Standard, mainly for it's passive'ness So yeah, lets say £150 collected for the Squier, pretty much mint, been out on 2 or 3 gigs to not get played because I realise that active isn't my thing. I'm also interested in rosewood MIA Jazz 5's (prefereably the 4-1 tuner config), so if a part exchange would be of interest, or you have one you're thinking of parting with, lemme know . The two things I'd say are that the width at the nut is pretty hefty at 51mm, although I actually find it pretty comfortable, and the headstock is a SLIGHTLY (very slightly) different shade of white to the body. You have to squint to tell, but it's there lol This is still a feeler, just gaging interest currently Cheers Si
19. Yeah that 1970 OW is a beauty! But 2700 for a refinish? naaaaaa . And also, where has the truss gone in the end-of-the-neck picture The '68 Jazz is also very nice, non-original tuners from wrong era kinda ruins it though haha. Si
20. The idea of the 'JV' series is that the serial number started with JV Si
21. Nash is a brand, for the most part, I believe that the headstocks are plain..........who knows what decals others might add to the headstock . There were a few plain-headstock Nash's at V&R, and the Gallery had a Fender badged Nash, which was lovely I might add! Si
22. Can't help myself, gotta get them in before the end of the year I call this one..... The Sneeze Si
23. Well, on mine, it makes the whole bass sound PHATer, and voids the neck pickup volume. So whether it's still on or not, only the neck pickup volume seems to work. Si
24. On my Shuker/Parts Jazz, I have a stacked knob arrangement (2x vols & 2x tones), as well as a three way switch. This allows me to have neck/both/bridge pickups on. It just means that if I'm ever in a situation where I'd prefer one volume for ease of use (teaching etc), I have the option. On my MIA Jazz, I use the S1 switch in a similar way, because it cuts out the bridge pickup, I can just use the one volume (neck) to control the whole bass. Si
