Schultz and co. didn't buy back Fender from CBS until 1985, and even then initially imported the guitars. But you're right, I just checked and I got my dates a little late , apparently the Corona factory opened in '85 under the new regime also. I've never tried late 80's/early 90's Fender's, but I have heard people say they weren't the best, mostly guitarists I have to say. I think Beedster had a similar bass for sale, can't rememner whether he said it was a good'n or not!? I've seen a pic of the bass in question though, and it looks nice. Hardware looks a little cheap perhaps, definitly similar tuners to whats on MIMs and Squiers now. The guy who's selling it hasn't taken great pictures of it. I'll let the OP post the full link to the listing if he wants to. Si

I'm pretty sure the late 80's US Fenders are deemed to have mostly been 'of bad stock'. It's when they were just getting back on their feet after the CBS buy-back So I reckon, if it's nice to you, it's worth something, if you think it's a dog, chances are so will other people lol Post some pictures anyway!
I have no idea why a rehearsal room would want a 4x10 & a 1x15. The money they spent on this would have been far better used on something more suited to the room but of higher quality than an Ashdown Mag system. I guess some people love the idea of a big rig for rehearsing though - The guitar amp is a Marshall half stack as well!
I definitly agree with that! I guess a lot of it is having a system in the room that joe bloggs recognises and is cheap and easy to replace/fix. Si

5 string Sterling innit! http://www.music-man.com/instruments/basses/sterling-5.html Si

I think usually when the pickups are fairly equally matched, there isn't too much of an issue. For example a bass with two humbuckers of the same brand, or two single-coils of the same brand should be fairly matched. The problem comes, from what I've heard, when you have say a humbucker at the bridge and a single coil at the neck (ala Laklands & Stingray HS's), switching between the two can cause a drop in volume as humbuckers are generally louder.
Next week i'm gonna take one of my Berg cabs and see how a single 1x12 compares to the Ashdown 4x10 + 1x15 combintion. . .
Isn't that a little bit like comparing a horse and a truck? lol Depends what you wanna do! You wouldn't take a 1x12 on a stadium tour for example Si

What I love about Juan is that he doesn't shoot straight up to the high end when he solos, he solos as a bass player! Love his playing Si

I've played that Delta Arpege, was very cool. I haven't had a great deal of time on fretless (other than my old EUB), and for some reason I was a little bit intimidated by the Vigier, but I found it very easy to play with some great usable tones. Nice one Have you got any JV Jazzes to move on to make room for it Nick? Si

A scratchplate can make or break a bass lol. Much prefer the pearl to the white on the 75RI. I changed my sunburst US Jazz's white one to brown tort. My black Jazz is Black scratchplate. The '73 is tort My incoming Classic Vibe is tort. But the Custom Shop I spec'ed up would have only looked good with a white one! Swings and roundabouts innit Si
I'm not sure if the Johnston basses are different enough from the other Squiers, paint colour and Biffy sig aside, for me to consider paying the extra money. Are Squier Johnston's going to be on such a different level compared to other Squiers, in terms of build quality, electronics and set up to justify the extra price? I'm not a massive fan of the band, so I don't really want it for the reason of band association etc. I have absolutely no doubts that the basses will be cool and play well, if people are willing to pay that price for it, good for them.
I'll let you know when I get hold of both the Squiers due to me lol Looking forward to it nomnomnom Si
Price just now is about 400 odd quid from where I've looked, which I consider a bit much for a Squier.
Surely this is just an issue with your perception of the Squier brand? If an instrument is built to a good enough standard and sounds great, then surely it deserves it's price to be based upon those qualities rather than the name on the headstock. Si

Cheers Pete! Yeah I'm looking forward to getting to grips with one, I've heard good things! I've actually ordered a Squier Classic Vibe Jazz for myself too, so will be nice to A/B the two of them! Si

Hi everyone! Just in case you're interested, I've got one of the Squier James Johnston Jazzes coming to me for review. I'll post in this thread as and when I put the review up in the relevant forum. Cheers Si

It's not that it was only 3 notes, that's beside the point.....that is sometimes as simple as a bassline needs to be. But he could have at least played them with some conviction lol Si
-
I only caught Foo Fighters, who I think are average at the best of times anyway, and Jay-Z, who was cool but the bass player looked like he wasn't a bass player lol Si

None of the pics are working "Exceeded bandwidth" Si

Just don't do gigs when you're not getting paid? lol Si

I had this at a gig the other day! "Man, really liked your playing....you MUST be influenced by Flea" ummmm....nope, not in the slightest lol Si
-
I liked it! Don't think I could more than 8mins of it lol, but nice to hear someone doing something a little bit different with solo bass rather than just slapslapslapslapslapslaptapslapslapslap etc Si
