Sadowskys

Thanks for the comments guys, tis all food for thought! What are peoples general views on electronics? Is it generally a preamp or pickups that can let the other down, and therefore usually the first to change. All my basses are passive, so I'm a bit 'Active' naive Cheers Si

Sadowskys

So I'm jumping the gun here a little bit, and probably being a little unfair to the, as yet untested, preamp in my new Squier Deluxe 5. But I'm interested to know peoples views on the Sadowsky preamp found in the basses (not the pedal/DI). Obviously I realise that I'm not gonna get a Sadowsky sound from a squier, but all this talk of them recently has piqued my interest. Do people miss the mid control?, I think I'm right in saying that the onboards are all 2 band!? Yeah, just peoples general views on the sound of their sadowskys really, compared to other pre's!? Thanks Si
3.
Don't touch it! It looks great as it is!
I couldn't agree more, it's looks very individual in my collection, even next to my all white (w/ white pickguard) P-bass. The only thing I'd say about it as a negative, is that the headstock colour is very slightly different to the body, doesn't bother me in the slightest, but is probably the only thing that gives away it's budget heritage! Other than that it feels and sounds solid, yet to gig it yet though.....really looking forward to it! Si
4. Yeah I think it looks pretty sweet! There are no holes for a pickguard, it is stock sans pickguard, so I would have to drill holes to add one....not really much point! Si
5. Well I better come clean!! Bought a Squier Deluxe 5 string from our very own Ruairidh. Still needs some new strings, but I setup the truss rod/action/intonation and it's a fantastic bit of kit for the cash I paid! Can't wait to get it out and about! I'm interested in how the Preamp and P'ups will perform, If I'm not happy with them, I might swap them out further down the line! Si p.s. Just using Ruairidh's photos for now! p.p.s. The pics with the gf will have to wait for now, she kept vetting them cos she 'looked bad' lol, typical
6. Plenty of FSOF updates Si
7. It arrived Just giving a bit of a setup, then will post some pics......whether or not they will be with the gf is yet to be seen! Si
8. Just wanted to add a quick vouch for Andy (Captain Bass). Goes to a few to many dodgy clubs for my liking haha, so I hear anyway. But an overall top bloke and player (as you already know). Buy with confidence innit! Si
9. Steal Your Kisses is a groove-song man, have a listen, look at the (3) chords and play what you wanna play Juan plays some mean licks on it, but live he never plays it the same, great song to mess about with! Si
10.
You should. Mine went one better and actually bought ME one.
Haha, this is gonna turn into one-up-manship of bass tolerant other-halves Mine asked the other day what Bass i'd like if she won the lottery/gets a sexy big advance for her band lol I said a '62 jazz She said ok I said they're about £50,000 she still said ok lol Si
11. If you decide on a cash sale, depending on the price, I might have a friend who would be interested. Si
12.
Sibob doesn't make girlfriends, but if he did they'd probably be the best girlfriends in the world.
Haha, genius! As a result of that comment she said that I should post a pic of her holding the bass when it comes through lol Si
13. It hasn't arrived yet (or even dispatched) It was bought from a Basschat member in the FS section. It is white It is a five string (shock horror!!....guess who's had enough of transposing dep gigs on the fly with 4's) It's nothing fancy, and a bargain/cheap, but looks pimp and solid and I expect it to do the job I'm buying it for admirably! More news when it arrives Si p.s. My gf knew of the potential purchase, and when I told her that I'd paid for it she said "yeah you do, I love it when you buy basses".......genuinely as well, not sarky! lol. Get in.
14.
Just one thing - and I'm sure it's an optical illusion - is the bridge on straight?
I know what you mean, you can see the strings bending to the left slightly at the bridge!? Beautiful other than that, I'd be scared to gig it lol, but brilliant craftsmanship! I love the Thompson-esque red-wood binding Si
15. LONDON CAMDEN BARFLY TONIGHT!! Si
16. LAST MINUTE FSOF SHOW ADDED @ Camden Barfly With Spycatchers (Gallows sideproject) Cheers Si
17. £50 an hour?? Nice to see he's giving back to the bass playing community........at Berklee Prices!! I kinda like what she's doing, amazing technique, and some parts of the song were pretty cool (I like some plinky plonky noise). But am definitly getting the 'Berklee' vibe from the others. I think its the law that all Berklee bass players play Fodera or Sadowsky isn't it? lol The most interesting thing he does, to my ears, is from 6:40 - 8:00, but thats just because the bass sound is cool! It just sounds like million miles an hour solo'ing, with the only really nice melody from him at 2:54 or so through to 3:00!. But then i'm not a massive fusion-fast-as-f*ck-unison-lines, he grooves well, but then so do a lot of people. Plays in ways that I will only dream of playing, but then, it doesn't do anything for me But I do like her, she's a bit wacky Si
18. First Signs Of Frost are headlining the Blues Loft (upstairs @ Nags Head, London Road, opposite The Rye) tonight! 4 bands, £5, Doors @ 7pm See poster above!! ALSO FSOF main support to SENSES FAIL @ ISLINGTON ACADEMY this monday, 20th April. £7 on-the-door guestlist (normal ticket price around £14) PM with your name! Cheers Si
19. Glad someone on here is liking it lol Cheers dude! Si
20. Nice one mate! Great to hear a success story What gear were you using? Si
21. Hurrow! We thought that before we released the album at the undetermined time we're going to release it (!?!?), we'd let everyone have a sneak-peak of what we've been upto! WWW.MYSPACE.COM/FIRSTSIGNSOFFROST This Track (By Virtue) will be featured on the upcoming debut album and was part of the 'FSOF Recording Sessions' Diary that I kept on this forum: [topic="24941"]READ HERE[/topic] Obviously the quality isn't great, streamed on myspace and all that, but pump it out on some good speakers/headphones etc and you'll get the idea! Cheers all! Si
22. Loads of gigs added, both for FSOF & covers! Also here's a poster for FSOF's upcoming Headline Wycombe show. Cheers Si
23. Yeah I got a lot of time for that! Although the guy from the Netherland's voice started to grate toward the end lol Si
24. Looks nice, who are you thinking of having it built by, it looks like a Shuker but with a longer bottom horn! I really don't like the bass-clef inlays and ramp decal, way too (IMO) geeky and obvious for my liking! And realistically I don't think that headstock is big enough for 4 tuners, let alone 5 or 6 lol But all these things start a little rough around the edges, if it gets made, it will no doubt be a monster! Keep us informed Si
25. See I kinda like the challenge of playing things on a 4, I think i'm part of the Jeff Berlin school when it comes to that! Plus I feel that I can lay into them a bit more, easier to throw about to my mind. Having said that, I definitly see the application of 5 strings, I've used them (and am probably going to buy one) just for dep gigs whereby the singer turns up 10mins before a gig and changes all the keys, i'm an alright player but transposing on the fly stresses me out lol. So I think my conclusion is, 4 strings are where I'm at, they're on the same wave-length as me, I love playing 4's and I have more fun doing so. 5's are a tool to me, they are there to do a job. I know that seems like an odd conclusion, and I can't really explain it, but hey, that's the human brain huh! Si
