The way I understand it is that the vintage guitar market is always appreciating along with other markets, when other markets are not doing so well, or falling into recession etc, the vintage market just plateaus and bubbles along until it starts to appreciate again! There's a reason why many people are putting their faith into vintage instruments as part of their retirement plans! Si

Sounds like this bass could quite easily become a mish-mash of ideas! I hope not, there's beauty in simplicity Good luck Si

For my band First Signs Of Frost: I play with 2 fingers, 3 fingers for faster lines. On recordings of those faster passages I'll use a pick for clarity, but for ease and flow, I'll play those passages live with 3 fingers. There are some small tapping and chordal breaks for me, but nothing major or out of context. I'll include some unison lines on some of the guitar lead lines, but my favourite thing to do is to be playing my bass part over the guitar line and hook in for the unison line for maybe 3 or 4 notes of it in the lower octave....sounds phat! I'll be mostly following guitars and bass drum patterns with the odd harmonic digression if the song requires it! Si

Bass Shapes (jazz, bass, singlecut, completely original)
Sibob replied to EBS_freak's topic in Bass Guitars
I'm into Jazz shapes and Singlecuts! I have 2 Jazz's and another on the way soon....but no singlecuts lol. I'd love that Benevante that's been for sale for a while, but I simply can't justify it! Oh well! Si -
Who on Basschat has the most expensive bass?
Sibob replied to Jonny Walker's topic in General Discussion
I'd like to suggest that Jim's (99ster) 1960 Jazz Bass is probably worth the most! Si -

Ok so am listing this on behalf of my good friend, Dave. Anyway, he has just upgraded to a schmexual Ampeg setup so would like to see this gone! This is the blurb that he's sent me: Warwick X-treme 10.1 The X-treme bass head is both the Beauty and the Beast, all in one unit! The beauty is found in the incredible voicing and EQ section, which gives players the ability to shape their sound in a myriad of ways. The beast is found in the beefy 1000 watts (at 4 ohms) of MOSFET power, which is clean, clear and devastating. There are several other features - like the switchable and adjustable onboard compressor - which pro players will rejoice over and find that they cannot live without. This also comes with a 2 unit case (which has been slightley damaged, see on pic). Rack case damage: 411 Pro Cab 4x10 Speakers HF Horn with attenuator 600 watts RMS Impedance: 8 ohms Bass Reflex Housing Weight: 85.98 lbs. Dimensions: 26.5" x 23.8" x 19" (HxWxD) This cabinet represents the epitome of design, manufacturing and creativity. It is equipped with professional high current speaker connector compatible with Switchcraft HPC & similar connectors. The cab is covered with Warwicks tough blue-black felt and the ports and HF horns are chrome-plated for an understated but powerful stage appearance. This is a great cabinet. It has been gigging however never ragged. The HF-Horn Attenuator knob has been bent (see on pic) but still works. Prices! SOLD PM me if you're interested and I'll pass you Dave's number and you can taaalllkkkk, he's based in Ealing, London Cheers for looking! Si

FEMALE BASSIST/BVs WANTED for FULL TIME all female BAND

I'm personally vouching for the Band and the OP here! So if we could keep this on topic and tasteful, It would mean a lot to me Thanks guys Si -
Shame it's not just one year earlier, a pre-CBS in that condition will be priceless one day But still very very nice indeed! Si

It's about whatever feels more natural to you and also what tones the song calls for! My main tone comes from me naturally playing over the bridge pickup, that is the main sound in my head, but then there are certain passages in songs that will require me to move over to the neck pickup. In the same way that the sound of the note I want determines where on the neck I'll play it. I've also found that if you want an overdriven sound (if you have a tube amp or hybrid like me), you're more likely to get it my digging in on the neck pickup than the bridge pickup.....again, it's just another sound available to your fingers that perhaps others think they need pedals or EQ changes for! Bassfan bought my Lakland 44-02D Fantastic bass, but wasn't quite for me, and simply wasn't getting used! I'd still like to try a DJ4 & JO4 in anger though! Si

And that's why the 70's Jazzes have that burpy growl....much more fun than the 60's sound! I was kinda interested in one of these 70's MIMs, but then I went and bought a 1973 Jazz Si

Hmmm, I should check my cash converters more often! Si

It's basically a 70's version of my Standard US Jazz, so I'm happy and sorted with my setup now. No current outstanding GAS Well.......not for basses anyway Cabs next Si

Apparently Lars was pretty sloppy, although that really doesn't surprise me anymore! Si

I'm really liking that ESP!! Si

...but this time...I'm the proud owner! I've been after an early 70's jazz for a while, and was gutted when I missed this the first time round, I consider myself very lucky that I had a second chance . I won't post all the same pictures again, I'll do some nice new ones asap, with me or something lol. Getting its first outings on thursday and saturday this week! Needed a slight setup tweak for my personal preferences, but the flatwounds it came with are still fitted. I haven't had flats on a bass in a few years so am enjoying the difference for a little bit, still growls like a mofo, but some Newtone Roundwounds 40-100 will be fitted in the next few weeks I should think! The bass has a fender reissue bridge on it now, as opposed to the schaller monstrosity pictured above, it also has Wizard pickups in it, the details of which I can't remember apart from that they're slightly overwound, but they sound pretty awesome to me so far! I'm using it without the (reissue) pickups covers or thumbrest that it came fitted with, they just get in my way . When finances permit, I'll be looking at getting a genuine early 70's bridge for it. I'm sure I'll add more to this post soon, I've had 2 and a half days with it, so lots more to explore ohhh yes! Si
