Went to watch Chris Thile tonight at Bush Hall in London, and who should be sitting in front of me was JPJ himself. I know he's big on mandolin so there probably wasn't a better place to be tonight, Mr Thile got some chops.......and some songwriting skills.......and a voice lol. But yeah, quite random Si

Odd Jazz! Kinda like it but ££££'s
Sibob replied to phsycoandy's topic in eBay - Weird and Wonderful
What i find slightly odd is that Rudy Pensa and John Suhr are different people, they have of course worked together on various Pensa-Suhr guitars and basses, but the listing says "MADE BY GUEST LUTHIER JOHN PENSA SUHR" Si -
[topic="5336"]HERE'S[/topic] the build thread! and HERE is the song, it is the last song on the player, 'When The Water Rises Up' It was a session for a friend of mine.
Wood is one of the few sustainable natural resources available to mankind.
With the exception of Cake! There is a company that makes guitars from recycled glass and such, can't remember the name though, they're english, saw them at the BMF a few years ago. There was also a pretty big article on this very subject in a Bass Player issue last year, i'll try and find the article. Si

The instrument is a 'Master Built' custom shop by JPS, so yes it is made from scratch i believe, much like any Luthier makes their custom instruments. Its the same age old question as to why someone would pay £6,000 for any electric bass (uprights are different ), in any case, that's pretty much what a new Fodera costs. Si -
I've always wanted to play with Andrew Borger, that's Norah Jones' Drummer. His feel is amazing, and I love drummers who can play slow......but well! Si

Yup, Dan fronts Piano to, although i don't think they're doing much at the moment!. Yes Marianne does get about, in all the good ways lol Si

Ah bollox, i'll remember that for next time Ped Ha, i played in Norwich not long ago and thats where Dood lives, i thought he was in Ipswich so didn't tell him. Typical! Cheers Darryll, yeah man we'll hook up at some point! Anyway, you're lucky, your hair is straight pretty much, having curly tangly hair is a bit hazardous at times, got it caught in Marianne Harris' glasses once, and many times in trees lol. Plus having it cut has done wonders for my sex life dunno why, quite unlike Sampson! Cheers guys, glad you like the vid! Si

Complete with a bum note from me!! lol Expert In Trickery I think the rest of the gig is on YouTube, but this was the best song sound wise for whatever reason, shocking monitoring at that gig. Hope you enjoy Si p.s. My voice sounds very odd at the start, not like me haha Was also my first FSOF gig with short hair........was very odd Gear is my Lakland 44-02D, my Ashdown ABM EVO II 500, someone else's Ampeg 810

If you're the Dep, all you have to say if you already have an originals gig booked on a particular date is that you can't do the covers gig, simple. If you're literally taking over, then i would heavily advise getting at least 2 guys who can dep for you if you get an originals gig through. Thats what i do, i gig 2/3 nights a week, every week of the year pretty much with my covers and when i get my originals gigs through (which are my priority) i have 3 really great deps i can rely on! Si

OO i wonder whether Robbie wants to bring a couple of DR Cabs?! Is anyone bringing any Epifani or Schroeder cabs, lightweight stuff, me wanny try! I got my Lakland 44-02D, i'll bring my Encore/Precision/Jazz Build cos its cool, and maybe if my Jazz build is done, that to! All my other gear is pretty standard (US Jazz/ThingRay/Ashdown etc). Maybe My Shuker Upright if people are interested, still potentially for sale/trade btw!! Si
-
Well yeah, the majority of it is programmed Apart from the tracks those two players play on apparently lol Si
-
Definitely give Newtone a call, Malcolm will hook you up easy with a custom 12 string set!! Si
-
I hope you have a 4 string lol Maybe a 5 would be allowed....maybe But seriously, yeah do it If the people are right, then a lot of the time the tunes don't matter, its about playing with great musicians and learning from them! Si
-
+1 for Newtone Si
-
The image i get from SIT (not based on much really), is that they're much more interested in supplying bespoke strings to oddball build projects then firing out thousands of 40-100 sets to 'John Smith'. But I'm probably very much mistaken, i think they have more of a market presence in the US Si

Don't suppose anyone knows the deal with buying off Ebay from Australia? Is it the same import/handling/VAT situation as USA? Need to know within 20 hours lol Cheers Si

How do you cope playing live with more than one band?
Sibob replied to Thunderthumbs's topic in General Discussion
What i would consider as my main band is my Originals band, at the moment that doesn't gig half as much as my 'Other' covers band, which is out every friday and saturday every week...........ever lol. Whenever i have a date that clashes, which is happening more frequently because my originals band is taking off slowly (check Total Guitar this month ), i have 3 or so really good Dep bass players who step into the covers band, the band leader doesn't mind because they're good players who get the job done!. If for any reason none of the deps can cover me (which has never happened....touch wood), then i would honor whatever was booked first! Si -
I voted Sunday because I won't be able to travel to Northampton on a saturday when i have a gig in the evening. I'm guessing there'll be less of a chance of people gigging on the sun night than the sat night Si

Bit odd this When i worked in a music shop, we would always do our best on a price if the instrument in question wasn't in top condition! But then we were a small business, not a National. So who knows Si

Yup its still between Two Tone, White and Black, the 'Purple Sparkle' comment was referring to a few posts above it. With regards to hardware, I'm definitly open to other options! I saw in another post that the 201 isn't always a perfect fit and "the 201 doesn't always fit the bridge base well and looses transmission" through the body, which i assume means a drop in sustain, i think that was a quote from Mr Shuker, It does look nice though. So perhaps a 203 would be better!?, although that looks similar to a Fender, and i was thinking about something more High-Mass like the Badass Haven't looked at Hipshot bridges yet. The Hipshot Ultralights are fantastic tuners, really love them on my lakland! And if i go for a Warmoth neck, which by all accounts are quite heavy, they may be necessary, even if the result is only a slight weight loss. I do have some Schallers on another bass which are quite nice, but around the same price as the Hipshots, so for the price i'd rather have the UltraLights Cheers Si
not two tone sunburst! BORING!!! white in my opinion.
Haha, when you said two-tone was BORING, i was then expecting you to come out with "Purple Sparkle" or something.....but no.....White!! lol I love sunburst And Olympic White But i am coming round to the idea of Black But we'll see Also it seems you can get the Hipshot Ultralights in standard Peg Hole sizes, so that either opens up some other neck options, or knocks $25 off the Warmoth price I've also been considering Wizard pickups which i know are very popular, had a quick email with Andy. They're in the running i think, but it all still seems to point to the Dimarzios! hmmmm Si
