Heh, 4 months ago i might have been interested! But alas, I have never played a Jazz i got on with , Plus unless it was a status or a rick i would prefer 5 strings and above I may have to go custom shop or warmoth to get the jazz i want! (P bass neck) And yeah, She said after being together for 5 years its about time Have to pop her the question by the 22nd of November or else! I am gonna hire out a hot air balloon and propose there Its going to be a LONG engagement.
Thats cool dude, pity, cos its almost a kinda deep dark pink lol Not to hijack the thread but "5 years, its about time"?? and "gotta propose or else"?, that whole middle line makes it sound alll wrong IMO. I know people who have been together and extremely happy for 15 years without needing to get married. And i've never seen the point in LOOONG engagements, just love each other till you can afford to get married then do it straight away. Don't get rushed into it, you're only 22 dude. But anyway lol Good luck with spending your wad Si

So how is one 4ohm 2x10 gonna help? won't that mean he'll just be putting out 250watts, needs another 4ohm cab to get the full 500 Or can u run it bridged? Si
-
Anyone in the Wiltshire area go along!! I might be there in my capacity as Holly's groupie Si
-
Gonna be there with bells on! This will be the second time seeing him this year!! I'm feeling spoiled Anyone else going? Si

How can an amp be more efficient running through 1 cab at 4 ohms, if you're running 2 cabs at 8ohms, therefore running the amp down to 4ohms, then its exactly the same resistance and power output. It would also sound louder with two cabs as you're pushing more air through more speakers. For example if you were running your amp with one 4ohm 2x10 and the same amp with two 8ohm 2x10's, i would expect the amps efficiency to be exactly the same!! But i would expect the larger rig to 'sound' louder Not that i know ANYTHING about amps really lol Si

Indeed, i shan't be passing it off for anything it's not! Like i said in my original post, i have no intention of selling it, it was my first ever bass and i'll be hanging onto it forever more Si

Try Locrian and Lydian flat-seven scales, obviously depending on the quality of the chords they're playing, but they're two modes that have that interval. Think "Diminished" lol Si

Hullo all, thought I'd start my Encore Refurb/Rebuild thread. Basically, I've got my first ever bass, a mid 90's, maybe early 90's Precision style Encore bass. Pearl White in colour with a white scratchplate, it originally had a rosewood fingerboard. In around 2000 i had it converted to fretless, i say that rather then de-fretted because the whole fingerboard was replaced, with an unlined maple one. At the same time i changed the tuners for some no-name but much sturdier tuners, coated the cavity with foil and replaced the pickup with a DiMarzio DP122 pickup (which made way for the pictured Bartolini Model P about a year later), i also took the scratchplate to a car decal shop and had them add the black squares that made up the chequered look. I strung it with Black Rotosound Tru-Bass strings, giving a double bass-esque sound. The bass in this form became kinda redundant after i had my Shuker EUB built and has been sitting in its case ever since. "So" i thought, "I'll make it usable again". I decided that i wanted to put a Maple Jazz Neck on it, i wanted block inlays and binding but an Allparts dotted maple jazz neck became available on the forum at a price i could't say no to: It actually has some really nice grain in it!: It came yesterday, and i fitted it, with a pretty tight neck joint resulting, i've definatly seen loser joints on vintage fenders and other stock basses: I purchased new mini-pots and a string retainer from Allparts, stripped the scratchplate of the chequers and replaced the Bart with the Dimarzio once again (higher output passively). All got wired in today, and although theres still a bit of buzz to sort out, its starting to all come together: Plans over the next week or two are to purchase some Gotoh GB-4N 'CBS era' Fender style tuners from Allparts, sort out the electrics good and proper, i also have some nickel barrel knobs to go on. I'm also going to order an S series Fender Jazz Bass Decal for the headstock, "WHY" you ask? Just because i like the Fender headstock aesthetic over a blank one really and the early 80's are when Maple Dotted Jazz necks appeared and pearl white became available as a colour. I have no plans on selling the bass anyway, worth nothing to anyone but me . So everything will be in place for an early 80's looking Precision bass with an early 80's Jazz neck . Finally, I've got some Warwick 40-100 strings to pop on while she gets setup etc then she'll be strung up with Newtone Diamonds 40-100 for her playing life . Updates and soundclips ASAP Cheers Si p.s. i believe the body to be made of Alder as its a good weight and feels nice and solid!

Well, if you go by Vintage & Rare Guitar's prices, then about £2,850 of course, no-one takes them seriously. I'd hate to value and be wrong, but i'm gonna go for £1800, because it hasn't got the ashtrays and you'd have to replace the top fret. Other forum members like 99ster will give you a much better idea!! Si
Would it not just go in a normal envelope? Straight through the letter box? I will try and get to the post office this weekend, as im in college all week. Yes, im a college student..finally at 16 !! haha
Yeah but different sized and weighted envelopes will require different amounts of stamps Si
-
Yeah that'd be fine by me mate! Ummm, i have no idea what the postage would be on them, i'll try and find out at some point but i'm working today. If you want, find out by taking a pack 'o' strings to the post office and see how they weigh in and just send the envelope when you find out. PM me for my address Cheers Si

Getting rid of my two month old UL212. offers?
Sibob replied to dave_bass5's topic in Amps and Cabs For Sale
Man, makes me happy that i can get an awesome sound from my Ashdown EVO 500, Mini 48 and Mini 15, with my Jazz bass. All completely flat EQ . Why don't you stop buying a loada amps, and learn to drive, then u can save money, get exactly what you want in one amp rather then having them scattered around. And if you don't like the sound of your bass through a PA (god help you if you do any large gigs), then make sure you get an amp with a DI that can take a signal Pre and Post EQ, means you can control the bass sound going through the PA. Si -
Glad you like the tunes Stag, thankyou, i should write some new ones really Just looked at the DM guitars pricelist, and its again between £200-£300. Makes me wonder if the gallery's price is for a strip and natural lacquer finish, and any other kind of colour/stain/sunburst will bump the price to within these other quotes! Si

I've got a set of Rotosound Tru-Bass 65-115 that i've just taken off a fretless. They've been on their a few years and have been gigged and used, but fortunately because of the nature of the string and the sound you'd expect from them i don't think it matters. No box, just wound up etc, just thought i'd put them here in case anyone wants to try them without first spending £50 on a set or whatever they are new. Collection only from High Wycombe or any of my gigs i have (see gigs section). Nice Si
-
Yup, if you have a back and shoulders made of graphite reinforced steel!? Si

New amp time is it?? Yeah the P-Bass should be real interesting when its done, i'll let you know when the thread is up. I'm gonna post the whole process and pics together so people can read it start to finish i think . Neck's arriving on Monday w00p Cheers Nik Si p.s. Theres some live vids of my originals band up in the recording sections if you're interested

Most of my covers gigs are in the greater/central london area, and i live in south bucks west of london. Most gigs take 30mins or so to get to. Its no problem for me, although i get driven by the band leader to them all, so i've got it easy lol I'd say it sounds pretty good as long as you can get away from work to soundchecks taking into account rush hours etc. We generally don't arrive at our gigs before 9, so the traffic is usually cleared by then.
Well, I got a quote from a local luthier who has been mentioned on these boards... ...quoted me £300!!!! Surely that's too much? What's a decent ballpark figure for this job guys?
That sounds like a price for a full strip and refinish? but if its already down to the wood.......?! I think the Gallery in Camden has re-spraying from £150, but it all depends on the actual job i guess, including what colour/finish you want. Si
