1. Hey dude! Umm well don't get a cheap one lol, like the Dean thing! Eugh The most popular EUB is probably the NS Design Upright, can be seen in most of the Bass orientated shops in London, Cellar, Gallery, Centre etc. The Bass Gallery in Camden usually carrys a few other makes, some second hand etc. Then theres the few Custom builders in the UK, Mo Clifton is in Blackheath in london and John Shuker is in Sheffield. Theres a few other builders to. I personally play a Shuker 36" scale EUB, and a good friend of mine has the Clifton Mini Mo, both cheaper then the NS Design, but you have to wait until they're built to try them obviously. You're more then welcome to try my Shuker if you want a trip out to south Bucks. Hope this helps Si
2. I've always worked by the 'rule' of thumb that you should have the bass at the same height standing as when your sitting with it on your lap. That way you're not playing in two completely different ways. Cool Si
3. Cheers Burpster! I actually emailed JHS (the Encore distributor now) and asked about older encores, and he just said that most replacement necks should fit, but i might have to apply "judicious trimming and/or shimmying". So yeah i'll give it a measure and talk to allparts, they have a really nice Maple and Bound/Block inlays Jazz Neck for £200 Mmmm, nice Si
4. Mines not to heavy, maybe a tiny bit heavier then my USA Jazzes, but theres not way this neck feels like a toy, nice and smooth, solid. I think i may got a rare good one! I want it to be fretted, but am reluctant to change the neck, i would prefer to just refret this fingerboard!, or have a fretted fingerboard built! Si
5. Indeed, mine is really solid feeling and well made! Tight neck pocket!! As you can see, the headstock is pretty much a direct Fender Copy, as opposed to the newer Encore ones Heres some pics, obviously its had a number of mods since i first got it many years ago 1. Custom built Unlined Maple fretless fingerboard (added by my uncle) 2. Bartolini P Pickup (Passive at the moment) 3. Original scratchplate but with added black chequers. May replace soon for something a bit more tasteful! 4. Black Barrel Knobs 5. I sanded the name off the headstock when i was a kid cos i didn't like the idea it was cheap! Oh how we learn... 6. ...at the same time i coated the whole of the inside cavity with tin foil, my young attempt at shielding, pretty good though! Si
6. Man if only it was a 4 string I'm only over in High Wycombe as well, typical. Have a bump on me, beautiful bass! Good Luck Si
7. Looks like a beautiful neck! Shame about that inlay! Si
8.
The sad thing is that I'd buy it if it was a bass/guitar twin neck.
Lame (this thread is probabely much more humorous to me because i'm hearing Cartman saying my responses lol)
9. It happens! Believe me! Si
10. Bunny are at Fringe Festival Meadows on 12th August if anyone's interested. If you see them, say Hi to Miles the guitarist from Simon, his bass player lol http://www.myspace.com/bunnymusicuk Si
11. GAS UPDATE : '69-'73 Sunburst Jazz .......still Lakland DJ 4 Maple Neck Spare amp head, A Markbass perhaps Ashdown 8x10 or Ampeg 6x10 HLF + Plus the car space/roadies! Si
12.
Why stop there? - there's clearly room for another neck between the other two! Hamster
super gay
13. Looks like great stuff to me! I remember seeing the adverts in Bass Player A read of their History is a positive step as well. I quite like the look actually, a bit different, but not too 'Boutique'. The JT400-M and JT400-JJ interest me! Si
14. Like some other members, i go to great lengths to keep my strings bright, PA's and Rooms always deaden your sound. Make sure my hands are clean before i play, rub down my strings after each gig/set......... Just don't do any of that! :-D Si
15. I'm not sure about this double thumbing, its kinda cool as a solo device i guess, but in the context of a band, its kinda pointless, just makes the drums sound to busy! I'm not a fan of Bill Dickens! The start of that video isn't, IMHO, music. And his 'practice regime' kinda highlights that, "you can't hear any notes but you're strengthening your hands", i dunno just isn't for me. Marcus Miller on the other hand, quality! Like was mentioned above, tasteful with a real sense of melody! Si
16. I've had my EVO II ABM 500 for 4 years now and it hasn't let me down once!!! The worst problems I've had are the mute button falling off, (Ashdown sent me a loada spares FOC), and recently the VU meter bulb went (again Ashdown sent me two replacement bulbs FOC), not bad for 3 - 4 gigs a week!! Si
17. Yeah they do http://www.wdmusic.co.uk/shop/products.php...ge=8&next=1 Si

19. A very good guitarist friend of mine is playing with a band called 'Bunny' at the festival.......i got no details lol. But if you see posters/adverts for it, go along, great guitarist, and really good songs!! Si
20. Yeah i'm just really confused now as to whats for sale!! Si
21. Mine is straight from Fender, i was working for a music shop at the time so managed to blag it for free. For some reason Fender spares/accessories are over the top expensive, i ordered the '62 Tort scratchplate and on the invoice it said something like £45. But yeah....free lol I had to shave it a tiny bit to fit around the control plate, my bass obviously not being a '62, apart from that its perfect. Si
22. The Bass Gallery in Camden did a de-fret on a 5 string i had a few years ago for £50 with maple slip fret lines. Not sure what they're prices are now, check their website, but you shouldn't pay anything more then that i reckon. If you want an unlined fretless fingerboard then you would have to have a replacement fingerboard built, i had a quote from a luthier of £250 for a new fingerboard, but that was fretted, so unlined fretless would probly be less. Having said that, i guess you could just get the Luthier to put the same wood fret lines as the fingerboard and the lines would be less obvious. Si
23. Well, just remember...Equal Rights! :-D haha i jest of course! or do i?? yeah i do.!!!!!!!! ..... but do i really?? DUH DUH DUUUUUUUHHHHHHHHHH Si
