Everything suggested here is awesome...obviously. Scales & Modes are the building blocks of music fundamentally, but just practicing these in a linear fashion can be boring and probably the most un-musical thing you could do!. The practice technique that kind of opened it up for me was practicing with a looper pedal after being inspired by a couple of lessons with Steve Lawson, i'd loop a couple of chords in various rhythmical patterns and this helped scale practice achieve a bit of musicality, for me at least. The other thing is that groove is an odd one to try and teach! Its kind of like explaining hot or cold...its a feeling IMO. Rocco Prestia once said when asked 'What is the groove' he replied "Imagine a group of guys are walking down the street, all feeling and looking pretty cool, and one of them picks up a rock and puts it through a window......he just messed up the groove" A bit odd, but hey, he grooves like a futhermucker, so i'm not arguing! Good Luck! Si p.s. +1 for the above post, singing is a BRILLIANT way of writing/figuring out lines!

Yup, i should be at this! I gotta come from High Wycombe (south Bucks), how easy is it to get to, and park at canary Wharf? Or would it be better to get a train in to marylebone and tube it, bearing in mind the last train home is 12:10am Nice Si

I have a red Bronco, which are basically Squier MusicMasters i think. Nice little basses, picked it up for £50 as a project to make into a Piccolo bass, worked fine, still needs a little fine-tuning. Theres a recording of it on my myspace. Si

I had the AGB-140 very briefly a couple of years ago, briefly as in 3days or so, i took it back. To me it seemed massive....i mean really really long, if i was to purchase either of these two again i'd go for the short scale one. I also got a weird kinda hum from the 140's pickup, and thats a problem when the electronics on these basses are really hard to get to....no control cavities, just the f-holes. I'm all for hollow basses for sure, but i didn't like the 140 Good luck Si

Looks nice to me! When does the body date from? Si

Theres a few different views on this! I've seen interviews with big session players who say "If i write the bass line, i want a writing credit. Justin Meldal-Johnsen actually covers his views on writing credits in his seminar over at www.bassplayer.tv The musicians union will have guidelines on this. Certainly at the level it sounds like they're at it would be prudent to secure a fee before you play anything. Saying that "I'm signed" doesn't really hold much weight nowadays, unless you know theres a decent amount of money and marketing machine behind the artist. I'm signed in Japan, but i wouldn't offer you a royalty lol. Good Luck mate Si

I've got friends who have done VocalTech, Bass Tech, Guitartech & the drummer in my band came away with 'Best Drummer' for the degree course at Drumtech. Strangely i haven't really spoken at length with my basstech friend about it, but both my Drummer and my vocaltech friend have both said that they wouldn't necessarily recommend it to everyone. My drummer said that they don't really teach you how to play as such, just afford a more focused environment and a fair few contacts! So a lot of the work is down to self-motivation. Both my drummer and vocaltech friend have said that going for an open day is essential and both recommended the Diploma over the degree course!. Cool, good luck SI

+1 for the above post +1 for if you get a job put the money in an account for uni!!!! And perhaps just spend the time playing and practicing, maybe a part time job instead of a 'life-killer'. What kinda gigs are you doing to warrant a 1000watt head???? Not many people do gigs that need that, thats like stadium onstage volume lol. Si
