  1. La Bella 760FS for me! Best flats available IMO Si
  2. You could route whatever audio you want to any of the outputs via Mix Control. So if you wanted, you could send a couple of channels of audio from your DAW out of the SPDIF outputs, or indeed you could route any of the analogue inputs of the interface out of the SPDIF out, or any of the outs. They're just ins and outs, Mix Control allows you to route the audio as you wish, you could simply consider the interface as a junction box in that regard. It's worth noting that the SPDIF is a digital in and out, so while the connection looks like a standard RCA, you would need a specific SPDIF cable to utilise it, and similarly connect it to another unit that has a SPDIF connection, not just RCA in/out. There's a full rundown of how to use Mix Control on page 11 here: https://customer.focusrite.com/sites/customer/files/focusrite/downloads/7235/userguidesaffirepro14eng02.pdf Anything else, just let me know Si // Focusrite
  3. SOLD Hi all, Bought this a little while ago as a back-up 5 to my Elrick, but now would like to get something a little more traditional. I've spotted a 5-string Precision that I'd like, and so this is up for sale. It's in fair/good condition, a few little knocks and dings, but nothing serious at all. Happy to photograph them on request. The fretboard needed a level when I got it, amazing work carried out by our very own Andyjr1515. So fretboard levelled (essentially resetting the truss-rod), re-fretted and now setup to play really nicely. It doesn't have the original control-knobs, it's pictured with some creme chicken-heads, but I can replace with black chicken-heads also. It owes me £220, but doesn't have a case, so would prefer not to ship. £200 if you want to come and collect from Hemel Hempstead or High Wycombe. If you had a Black Fender Precision (Japanese or newer Player series) with a maple fingerboard (specifically), I could perhaps add a little cash to do a part-ex. Any Q's, just let me know SOLD Cheers Si
  4. The P4s he’s been making look stunning, around $4200 I think though, clearly they sell in small batches, so good on Carey, but too rich for me. Si
  5. Yeah you’re exactly right, while the driver is a component, when you’re talking about projects like that, the overall grunt of the machine is what you’re interested in. The Scarlett 18i8 is the equivalent in that range to the Clarett 4Pre (although do have different I/O). I think it basically comes to budget, if you can afford the Clarett without flinching, go for that. If you are budget conscious, then Scarlett still sound more than professional. Si // Focusrite
  6. It’s not a thing with extensive tattoos, nothing to do with the ink, but might simply be something to do with the colour. Black absorbs heat, white reflects it (why houses in very hot countries are usually white). I don’t have solid black on my arms like the picture above, but both sleeves are relatively dark, fair amount of black....I don’t notice it being any more uncomfortable in the sun than normal. I also wish that people would work with artists on the designs they want, you’ll get a better tattoo, I guarantee you that there’s nothing less inspiring to a tattoo artist than a customer designed piece. And if the artist you’ve chosen can’t come up with something you like, it’s the wrong artist. Si
  7. Ultimately, it’s less important what’s happening in Mix Control (That’s essentially just a monitoring and routing tool), it’s about how you set the inputs up in your DAW. As I said, drop me a message if you get stuck, and i’ll get the Tech Support team to get in touch to help set it up Si // Focusrite
  8. There’s a few things to unpack here so sorry if I miss something (and am on my phone, so a little awkward lol). Feedback loop won’t really be a problem, just a case of routing whatever channel in your DAW to say something like output 3, through the hardware and monitor the input when you come back in again. If you want output 3 to form part of your main monitor mix (for some reason that I can’t think of), then you’ll just not monitor the signal coming back in again. So easy to avoid feedback. It’s a pretty common use-case, so quite normal to set an interface up that way. Drivers are certainly a component of latency, but yes, as is the rest of the computer. The easy way around any latency issues (which I don't think you’ll encounter), is simply to avoid any processing until you’re done tracking, when you’re fully done with tracking, up your buffer size all the way to 1024 or whatever, basically giving you all the CPU power ready for processing (because don’t need to worry about latency, because tracking is done). And yes, everything above relates to Scarlett’s as well as Claretts. Just be aware that Scarlett 18i8 is the first in the range that has ADAT In (If channel expansion is important to you in the future), whereas all Claretts have ADAT in. While Scarlett’s sound great, Claretts do have improved audio specs, hence the price differences Cheers Si // Focusrite
  9. It’s been a LONG time since I’ve done anything with Saffires, and i’m obviously not at work at the moment to check with the Tech Team, but i’m pretty sure that within Dual Mode you can only switch between the two units in Mix Control as you describe, it was part of the restrictions that we weren’t able to get around with those units (now discontinued). If you haven’t see already, there is a full guide to Dual Unit mode here: https://resource.focusrite.com/sites/default/files/focusrite/downloads/20956/saffire-dual-unit-en.pdf There’s also a guide to setting up the channels in your DAW, although be aware this is written as if two Pro40’s are being used, so the channel counts will be different with one Pro40 and a Pro14: https://support.focusrite.com/hc/en-gb/articles/207546605-Why-can-t-I-hear-my-second-Pro-40-in-Dual-Unit-Mode- Let us know how you get on, and if still no luck, then let me know and I can get someone from Tech Support to contact you when you’re with the setup Si //Focusrite
  10. Of course! You’re mistaking what i’m saying as ‘what should it shouldn’t happen’. I fake walking all the time, with some relatively rudimentary chordal structure knowledge. My point was simply that if one wants to increase their musicality (because you’ll almost always sound more musical if you know what you’re doing), or if you’re interested in getting more gigs with good musicians, then having them listen to you and hear that you know what you're doing will certainly help. Even if no-one knows, but it’s important for YOU to feel what you’re doing is genuine, then carry on learning and applying that knowledge. If none of that matters and it suits someone to fake something to a degree, and still sound fine doing that to jo-bloggs, then brilliant, more power to them 🙂 Si
  11. While I appreciate the humour (😉), in the context of the thread, I’m suggesting he’d stick out like a sore thumb. Si
  12. On a serious note (no pun intended), I suppose it depends who your audience is. If it’s jazz musicians, at worst you’ll look like a blagger who doesn’t know what they’re doing, at best you’ll look like someone who is un-musical (poor note choices). Contrary to what people think/hear, there’s nothing random about Jazz, 9.5 times out of 10, each note, whether you like it or not, will be a considered harmonic choice by that musician. So random to some people, extremely considered choices to others. So yes, depends on your audience, and of course, how important your musical output is to you 🙂 Si
  13. There’s not really a particular interface specifically for what you want to do, it’s probably more about how much of that do you want to do simultaneously, that then determines the I/O you need/want. e.g. Say you want to record a vocal and a guitar simultaneously, so you definitely want two separate inputs. If you then want to also record a synth, don’t automatically assume you need three inputs, the question is do you want/need to record that synth at the same time as the vocal and guitar? If not, then you still only need two inputs. As it happens, the Clarett 2Pre allows for 4 simultaneous inputs to be recorded, 2 of which can be any combination of Mic/Instrument/Line, and 2 are line inputs only. Similarly it has 4 outputs, so you could be feeding a stereo pair of studio monitors while also live re-amping two guitar parts out to an amp and recording back in (requiring two mic inputs). So you can see that already, if multiple inputs aren’t required simultaneously, something like the Clarett 2Pre is already quite versatile. That’s before you consider that it’s for an ADAT in port, which means you could expand it by another 8 channels via a separate channel strip (such as the Clarett Octopre). Latency is also a bit of a misnomer here, high latency is only really an issue if you’re recording and requiring to monitor that recording input via your DAW (ie if uou’re DI’ing your guitar/bass and require to hear a VST effect on its channel while you record). That’s usually fairly rare, and so direct monitoring (monitoring direct from the hardware input of the interface) will usually do the job. In this situation, system latency doesn’t effect you, and so you can just too out your session buffer size and allow your computer to process all the soft instruments you have without falling over. As such, a USB interface is usually more than enough for most people. Thunderbolt does allow for more latency ‘headroom’, but again, only really needed if you’re recording into a heavy session and require to monitor that recording channel via the DAW. Most commonly, people get all their audio recording done before their sessions get heavy with processing (i.e. the mixing phase), and so again, USB more than adequate. Also remember that latency is largely effected by your computer spec, have an appropriately spec’d computer, again, USB is more than enough. So, long story short, depending on what your I/O needs are, I think start looking at the Clarett 2Pre USB and go from there Si // Focusrite
  14. Thanks to all involved! Finn and I enjoyed it very much for the short we were there (stopped by on way to take him to see Windsor Castle). But good job as he managed to win us something in the raffle 😁 Should be back next year, this time with Basses lol Cheers all Si
  15. What’s the start time? Can’t easily see it anywhere. Cheers Si
  16. All things being well, i’ll be there with Finn in tow, probably just for an hour or so, but he really wants to see all the Basses Si
  17. The Source Audio Reflex looks good, but it’s like £350 😨 Si
  18. It’s not something i’ve ever looked at I’m afraid. With regards to the compatibility with our stuff, as your interface has Midi connections (just re-read your post), it’s just finding an expression pedal with Midi out I would think. Sorry that’s not too helpful. I’ll ask around the office today. Si
  19. I've now added the weight to the main post Si
  20. Not yet 😂. Not until I find a P5 I want Si
  21. Just a quick note of public thanks to Andy for rescuing the BB415: Having let the neck settle back with the body and under tension, I can report that we’re back up and running. While the bass is a cheaper stop-gap while I look for a nice P5, I don’t think it should be understated that Andy has restored this bass to being a solid, gig-ready instrument. Many thanks Si
  22. Well it’s well documented (I think?!) that I hopped off the wagon with great gusto. Life events meant that I have leaned somewhat on gear acquisition for some well earned happiness (that’s dramatic, all is fine....generally). As such, i’m well and truly out, but I did 6 months, so it was a good little exercise Si
