Certainly not bothered about Poplar, but Laurel just looks horrible, just looks super dry and cheap! Give me maple any day in the absence of proper rosewood. Si

Well we've had the weekend First bass is the '71 Precision, second is the US 44-64, as a few people guessed. As was mentioned, little more midrange content with the Lakland, I can't decide whether that missing from the '71 is emphasising the low end, or whether it genuinely has a tiny bump in that area. It does have older flats by about a year, so that could be the reason for that. But yeah, super close, and probably wouldn't noticed with it mixed over a PA. Si

They’re both ‘Precisions’, just that one is an old Fender, and the other is a very new Lakland Si

Happy to reveal whenever, maybe give it another day or whatever to see if anyone else wants in. Si

2019 Gear Abstinence Challenge (Updated with 'rules')
Sibob replied to Sibob's topic in General Discussion
Not if that’s what was requested I guess?! Si -
Your wish is my command. *Use decent headphones/speakers* I'll let you try to decide in which order they go. The basses change every 4 bars. Volumes have been normalised as one was a fair bit louder than the other, this is a tonal comparison, not a pickup volume test. Both are strung with La Bella flat wounds, the '71 has 760FL, the 44-64 has 760FS. The 44-64 is very much based on a 1964 spec Fender Precision, so a C width neck with a shallow depth. The '71 is kinda classic 70's, B width neck and really quite a bit deeper. Si

Took a couple of photos of my two Precision’s, both with La Bella flats. 1971 Fender Precision 2019 Lakland 44-64 Si

Think so, may well depend on time and other things to cover, but it seemed to work well :). Si

Just a quick note about the Launchpad, although it is geared towards Ableton, at its heart it is simply a midi controller, as such it can be ‘midi learned’ with any DAW and function. Si // Novation

Hi all, Sold pending I ordered this when I really wanted a ‘boutique’ headless 6. Realistically though, I just don’t use it due to being so at home on a simple P-bass. It’s criminal for such a beautiful piece of workmanship to just sit in a bag. I do reserve the right to change my mind though. In any case, this is a 2018 Krell E-Type 6 string headless: - Alder body - Indian cedar top - 3 piece ash, 33” scale set neck - 30” fingerboard radius (Ie not fully flat) - Macassar Ebony f/b, 24 frets - 17mm spacing at bridge, 54mm nut width - Latest version of Alan’s headpiece (very neat and smart!) - 2 ACG RFB Humbuckers - East Uni-Pre (non filter, bass/mid/treble etc) I’ve also replaced its stock Fusion bass gigbag with a Mono Vertigo guitar bag, which it fits in perfectly. All that bass and transport it with the ease of an electric guitar I’ll also throw in a couple of new sets of La Bella Nickel 6 strings. That’s an as new ACG, mint condition, without the 10month wait, with a more appropriate bag and some free strings! Do it I would prefer not to ship, but we can probably figure it out at your expense and whilst accepting written liability. Audio clips *Use decent headphones/speakers in both cases*. The Basschat podcast theme is recorded with this bass, as is the following (which is actually entirely this based other than the drums): Loads more photos here: http://www.acguitars.co.uk/project/0311krelletype6/ Sale only, no trades. As has been mentioned, the difficulty lies with a lack of any distinct ruling on what happened. That said, we're talking about covers bands, which are usually about providing a service for someones happy event, whilst a lot of people at that event might argue that the music and the man are separate, all it takes is for one or more people to have had a similar experience, for that film or the wider conversation to resonate with them very personally, and suddenly the band looks very insensitive, might even affect potential bookings. Ultimately, it's about timing, would I play an MJ song now? Probably not, it's incredibly fresh in peoples minds. Would I play one in a few months time when it had died down? Possibly. It's nuanced and should be considered on a gig by gig basis I think. Si

Let me clarify, it is quantifiable when compared with each other, however the worth of that difference is totally subjective. Si
-
This simply speaks to the ‘subjective’ thing. As I said, i’ve had Foderas next to Maruszczyks and the fit and finish is simply better on Foderas, is that worth £7000 extra? Not to you, but to someone it will be, often (not always) based on available funds. Workmanship is not quantifiable, as it’s an art, much like music. Why do some people pay £30 for a bandcamp download that is available for free? Because it’s worth that to them. If you want three basses instead of one, great, you do you. Si
-
A better made bass. But it’s always going be totally subjective, how much that is ‘worth’ can’t be debated objectively. Si
-
I’ve seen and played Marus and Foderas next to each other, I would rather have a Fodera . Each to their own of course. Si
-
I do always like maxing out the options, this (with a leather gigbag) would cost you €4449 Si
-
Arguably that's true of any studio situation......and medium/large gig. Si
-
Difficult isn’t it, do we simply want sales people to give us what we think we want? Or, in the above example (assuming it’s accurate), someone with some knowledge to steer us in the direction we actually want to be in, Ie “I love Zender’s recorded tone, sell me a Warwick”, “oh he played a Precision in the studio”....... Si

First ever bass line I learned was a song called 'Frank Sinatra' by the band Cake. Still a favourite Si

I suspect there’s much more of the interview/lesson available to the paid membership. Si

Sometimes I use it loads, sometimes not at all...depends on the context. Options innit. Si
