Handy from a 'I just need to hit the notes, nothing else matters' point of view, but tonally a C string doesn't tend to sound great close to the nut. I'd be more inclined to play higher on the Low B string as opposed to low on the E, and use that extended range onto the G string. Same notes, same patterns largely, better tone IMO. I regularly swap between 4, 5, 6. To me, 4 to 5 and back again is easy. 6 takes me a couple of hours to get truly comfortable around the D, G, C strings if it's been a while. But as with anything, it's just practice. Si

If it's new out of the box (and not a super dirt-cheap laptop), then I suspect it will be 64bit, I think Microsoft only really rolled out 32bit as the upgrade from 7/8.1 as it was possible that some hardware wouldn't be up to 64bit at that point. Always worth checking though as you mention! Si

Cool. My suggestion on the DAW side of things is to go with something that can support you should you wish to take your production further. Whilst Tracktion is a decent starter, IMO it's limited in scope. For what it's worth, on PC, I think your best options are Reaper or Cubase (my personal opinion is that Pro Tools on Windows is not good). Reaper is free to try indefinitely (with popups) and very cheap to buy a licence. Cubase LE is cheap and available on a free trial. Both these are scalable to match what you want to do all the way from amateur to professional stuff. I understand you're only starting out, but nothing worse than getting to a point with a piece of free software, and upon wanting to go further, having to adopt new software. Seems like a problem that is easily circumnavigated when the better software options also have free/very cheap entry points. No, Tauzero is quite rightly making the distinction between a producer tasked with building/writing a track for a singer/artist, where they’ll have creative control and a producer who is hired by a band/artist. In the latter example they might have some creative input, but will usually have to bow to the wishes of the band. That said, most bands will hire a producer they respect, and if that producer says a P bass is best in that instance, most players of worth will at least try it. Si

Depending on your budget (these are not cheap), and whether you specifically want 'warmth' or a little drive, take a look at the Noble Bass Pre (about the size of a big pedal), or the Jule Monique (realistically a preamp to sit on your EA). Both are fully tube front-ends basically, the Monique has more EQ options, whereas the Noble has the ability to power the rest of your pedal-board (within reason). Both are upwards of £1000 though, hand-built though if that matters to you. Si

On some of the posts on Facebook, The Underworld account is out there actively defending the show, kinda laying into people, which is weird.....however I can see a 'Nightshift Promotions' listed on the event to, so...... There was also a suggestion from someone else (completely uncorroborated on my behalf), that the gig was all expenses paid for the band. They've got more free time than most of us then lol The guy is an idiot, as you mention, narcissistic and pretty creepy, but doesn't deserve physical hurt. If people sold it out then didn't turn up, I'd kinda get it.......can't even get people in the room after it sold out.....but he would see that as a win. Because of his personally traits, there's not a lot that could happen that he wouldn't see as a win. But that's all still pretty cynical and negative where the music industry is concerned, shouldn't really be encouraged and further, especially in the pretty close-knit rock scene IMO. Si

I actually see it as really cynical move from The Underworld. They’ve seen an opportunity to sell a bunch of tickets that will either see people simply not turn up in protest, or lambast the guy onstage. Overly negative and not something the live scene needs. Maybe i’m wrong and loads of people now like his music.....that would really surprise me though. Si

Just to be clear, it’s not about Scott, it’s about an LA pro, one of about 4 or 5 on that sewn-up LA session scene where the P bass thing is an actual thing. So much of this thread is about “naaaa, just do your own thing”. No, do the thing that gets the job done, because that what a professional of anything does. We’re not talking about some crappy engineer who you’ve payed £50 to record your bands demo, we’re talking about producers who really REALLY know what they’re doing, and more importantly what they want....and they’re paying the bass player. Do other Basses exist? Yes. Are there recordings with other Basses on? Yes. But the video is talking about ‘Pro session players’ (who probably will all tell you the same thing) and is getting information from an LA session beast.....who really knows the game and what is expected of everyone in his circles. Do session players matter? Not if you don’t care about doing that, but that is what the video is about, so why do you care? Lol So again, why is everyone getting their nose out of joint like they’ve been held at gun-point to buy a Precision? Si

Friend of mine bought one of these. Surprise surprise it was total trash, he tried to dress it up as ‘oh it’ll be fun to fix it up’, but he eventually gave up, £350 down the drain! Si

I doubt that (as an ongoing concern), I think both manufacturers would have a lot to say about that whichever way you changed it, which would affect future supply. If a shop goes under however, I imagine any clearance price is game. Si

I think Nolly does really great work, and the GGD stuff sounds brilliant. But I found the setup of the free download to be tedious and actually gave up before I used it. I have a bunch of XLN Drums stuff, purely for demoing purposes, and it was much easier to setup and start using. I don't use Kontakt normally, so that's probably half the issue, but still, it put me off. If he can sort out the setup issue, or move away from Kontakt, would probably look again. Si

Same, I like some (very) heavy music although not a fan of Metallica at all, but Some Kind Of Monster is a brilliant film. Same deal as the Bros docu really, they're totally dysfunctional at the point that the film is being made, just makes for brilliant viewing! Si

They're great, this is my 2nd USA Lakland (I have a custom 44-94 passive P/J as well), and my 3rd Lakland in the stable along with my Skyline 55-01. I've had a few others Skylines over the years, 44-02 Deluxe, 44-64 Custom and DJ4. The DJ4 was the standout of those three, but it made way for the US 44-94, really excellent Jazz bass though! Si
