Are they still using flats of the wrong length? Ie the wound part of the strong around the posts? Is the gig bag still just a full sized bass one? They do look really great, them being released prompted me to pickup up my MIJ Mustang! Si

I have just realised that it's a 14 year old product, so there's a good chance that schematic from Mackie might be forthcoming (clearly it's not in warranty still lol). So you might find someone to fix it, however finding spares of they're not generic parts might be tough. As you say, 14 years for a gigged mixer is decent, maybe move on Si

Probably worth bearing in mind that all hardware developers will have access to new OS's for development way before they're released, so it's always a bit strange to me when a company isn't quite on the ball when it comes to full release (unless Apple changes something significant). The trick is to Google and see if their are other Quad Capture users having issues with Mojave, if not, could still be some strange localised behaviour on your machine.....that's when their technical support should be able to step up and troubleshoot with you. If it is a Mojave issue, I would expect Roland to acknowledge that. Si

Either it's an issue with an unbalanced cable allowing some extraneous noise from something else in the studio (does the problem also happen at home and with balanced cables?), or it's a hardware issue. If it's a hardware issue, you'll be relying on either your warranty with Mackie, or if outside warranty, how much it costs to have them fix it. If they're anything like us (Focusrite), they won't release any schematics to anyone who isn't an official service centre, so it's unlikely you'll find someone to fix it outside of their process. Si

Not strictly. Pro Tools First has a cloud based storage system, the actual DAW needs to be installed on your computer. Pro Tools itself has moved to a subscription service, although you can purchase it up front too. Really not sure why someone would go for the AmpedStudio when Reaper is around.....sure'y it's a pretty fringe use-case that someone genuinely needs to be totally browser-based?! Si

There will always be a market for both, I think the previously mentioned 'split' already exists. There are a LOT of people who want to, and have the means, to support small companies making great hand-made goods. There are equally people who either don't have the means, or simply don't care about where/how their gear is made to support a more budget orientated market. You only have to see how well such companies as Abominable Pedals, Darkglass, Earthquaker, JHS, Mr Black are doing to see realise that people want boutique, they will pay for hand-made. In most cases (although not always) they will be better made and sound better, but actually, I don't think that's everything to the purchasers, they want to support small business, and like having a real relationship with small pedal builders, it's a very close-knit community. No, largely because I knew I was including a clean blend, so would need to 'sculpt' the sound of the pedal too much. That said, I always socket my clipping diodes, so easy enough to swap those in and out for anything. My experience with the ODB-3 though, where I prefer the diode lift compared to the 4002 & LEDs means I might experiment with just removing the diodes from the Brutalist and bridging the connections. We'll see, sounds great as is. Si

Finally got round to building my Kurt Ballou Brutalist Jr, with an added Fuzzdog clean blend control (hence the slightly uneven pot spacing). Looks a bit of a rats nest top-down, but all the wiring is nicely layered, with moldable wire. I'll probably leave the top plain, maybe label the knobs with some old-school embossed labels. Sounds very cool! I also recently modded my Boss ODB-3 with the Monte Allums Try-Gain Plus mod. No guts shots because there's not much to see, replacement of about 10 components to smooth, thicken and tame the buzzy nature of the stock pedal into a nicer overdrive, including an IC replacement. The mod also adds the switch which let's you switch between 4002, LED & Diode lift clipping options. Also I added the sticker to make it even more ODB: Si

They're as good, if not a little nicer, as Fender's in the same price range I would say. With regards with dimensions, they're Jazz copies, often with era specific names/features, so they're going to be slim at the nut. I have a Jive and it's very comfortable, although haven't had a Fender Jazz for a few years to compare it to. Si

Any kind is fine. Spend more money, get more features and/or quality parts (ie “better tone”). My main DI box is a passive £40 Orchid DI, but am thinking about a Noble too. Si

80% of the gigging I do is clean, the other 20% is simply choosing to add in a little sonic flavours here and then, a little Octave, a little Chorus, some envelope filter etc etc. Could I do what I do whilst playing clean 100% of the time, of course, but I could also probably get by with having the same meal every night of the week. I play 4s, 5s & 6s. To me, the biggest technical consideration is simply muting, everything else is comfortable after a couple of hours shedding on the instrument (which I do with all of them regularly). As has been said, if you see your bass as a collection of notes capable of music, the number of strings/frets becomes superfluous info. If you don’t know where the notes are on the neck, and you’re simply playing learned basslines, that’s when swapping between them becomes a slightly harder prospect IMO. Si

Either a decent interface or a decent headphone amp will do you. Interface wise I’m biased (work for Focusrite), however 99% of the time I use a 3Leaf Enabler headphone amp/EQ for home practice, I have no amp for home use other than dragging out my gigging rigs (never happens). Good headphones help of course, I use KRK KNS8400. The Enabler is discontinued and usually quite sought after used, but the Shift Line Olympic MkIII looks impressive, tube preamp, EQ, aux in, headphone amp and cab sim! Don’t know how it sounds though. Si

I wonder whether simply removing those resistors and then bridging the connection with some wire would help achieve the volume increase whilst retaining the pot function. Obviously the pot iteself is a resistor of sorts, but if they’re ‘off’, might have the same effect, difficult to know. Or just get yourself a COG T-16 instead of modding your vintage pedals :). A Wazacraft OC-2 could also solve the problem Boss (if you’re reading).....just sayin’ ;) Si

That’s like the opposite reasoning to me, I go wide to spread the weight (not that any of my basses are over 9.5lbs). I have two 4” wide padded leather Maruszczyk straps, really good! Although I would swap them out for something equally functional, but ‘vegan’. Si
