As has been mentioned, only you can get out and see what works for you. There is no ‘science’, some people shred on chunky old bassball bat necks, some people lay down thick greasy grooves on a tiny thin necks.....there is no rule of thumb. From my experience, it’s more about the instrument than it is my preference. I have P necks, J necks (i’ve no idea what the profiles are) , asymmetric profiles, a shortscale. They’re all comfortable after a very short period, and they all do different things, so I accept them. Si

I moved away from the Ashdown 4x8 many years ago for this reason, that said, my old 4x8 was rear ported?! Although I was always doing gigs where having my cab as flat to the wall as possible was necessary, so may as well have been sealed. Just front ported cabs for me now. Si

Just in case you haven’t twigged, what your drummer doing is proper weird! If you’re doing gigs that require the kick to be amplified, you should have a PA to accomodate it. If the size of gig doesn’t require it, they should have gear that is balanced and sounds good. Quiet kick? Get a bigger kick or whatever. Si

Maybe, but remember that we're looking at this through the eyes of bassists, our live (and often studio) world is all about 'DI'. All of Line6 stuff is squarely aimed at guitarists, we're an afterthought. As such, guitarists are simply interested in Send/Returns and instrument outs, simple because in a live environment their cab is usually mic'd. Yes there are other use cases, some guitarists like to DI with in-ears etc etc, but they really are fringe use cases. So from a guitarist point of view, XLR is wasted real-estate and eating a few pence per unit into their revenue. Si
