I don’t have any experience of La Bella black tapes, but I have th Gold White Nylons (tapes) on my 5 string Lakland, and I love them. By most accounts they are brighter with more attack than the Black Nylons. They can be a bit ‘clattery’ acoustically, because of the lower tension and the want for a medium/low action, but doesn't translate to live/recorded sound, and actually they sound amazing in those settings. This is them in that bass: Si

Probably about £150 worth of case there. Si

Hi all, This came with my ACG, and whilst they're fantastic bags, I do like my Mono bags! As such, anyone have a Vertigo they're not getting on with and want to swap for an equally quality British equivalent? Can get photos this evening, it's as new, hasn't been out the house, and is this model: https://www.fusion-bags.com/collections/guitar-gig-bags/products/urban-bass-guitar-gig-bag As mentioned in title, only interested in a trade for a Mono Vertigo, happy to discuss cash your way too. Cheers Si

Bass sawn in half & taped together

Musician does well for himself by having fun. Branded a nob for no other reason. Makes sense 🙄 Si -
Haha, but I have bought plenty from COG, including a T16 Si

Have you talked to Spector directly or the UK distributor Barnes and Mullins? Si

I'd be interested to test this out against an OC-2, considering the Octabvre sounds mildly different to my ears (although very close of course), I expect this to as well, although would you hear that in a band mix, probably not. This will also track in exactly the same way as the T16 and the OC2 I expect, I highly doubt Valeton has put any work into the pedal save actually fitting it into the box. I've consistently tried to tell people that tracking is largely down to your technique and the setup/tone of your bass. You feed an analogue octave a buzzy, low sustain and thin sounding note, it won't track very well. You feed it a phat, round and sustaining note, it will track perfectly fine, and below A as well. I've been at bass bashes and demonstrated OC2's tracking a low E before. I'm absolutely sure that this is great for the money, and pedals like this should exist for people who can't afford 'boutique' pedals. But assuming the funds were available, and you weren't interested in vintage OC2s, I would much prefer to have a T16, to support and invest in a UK business and lovely lad who puts out consistently impressive and quality work. I'm still waiting for Boss to release an OC-2W though, I will be so happy if/when they do haha. Thanks for the review though, analogue octaves are brilliant! Si

But if a well-fitted alternative was available, that would interest you?! Si

If you can find a Fuzzrocious Dark Driving, has a similar vibe (dark sounding, low gain). This video I made might be interesting to you: Also made this SoundCloud playlist which also includes the Xotic BB drive and the Solid Gold Beta: https://m.soundcloud.com/simonpoulton/sets/bass-overdrive-shootout Si

Mono do actually give the internal dimensions on their site, one of the few companies that do in fact. To be fair though, the info is almost ‘hidden’ as one of the images for each product, as opposed to being text in a ‘spec’ section. Mono guitar bags are about as close as it gets currently, however the internal length comes up just short at 41.5”, with a Mustang topping out at 42.5” headstock to strap pin. I have a Mono Vertigo guitar bag (amazing bag, fits my 33” headless ACG perfectly), and it has the same dimensions as the classic M80. Whilst I can squeeze the Mustang in, it would damage the bag over time, not to mention putting undue pressure on the tuners. You can see in the above picture that the tuners are distorting the left hand edge, and when the bag is zipped up, would put pressure on the tuners. Again, it’s an option, but not ideal, especially for the price (as with the Protec). Si

Looks like a lovely case. My issues aren’t with quality of cases, but is with carting about a case that is bigger (taller) than is needed......especially when it’s dead-space. All well good if you also use the bag for other, full size, basses, but if you only use shortscale basses, the choice is almost zero. 2+2 headstock shortscales have a slightly easier time, bit more likely to fit a guitar case....if it’s wide enough at the headstock end. Si

See the original post But thanks Si

I have a generic Hiscox bass case that isn't getting any use, so may as well create some space at home. From memory, the condition is good, has some paint or something splashed near the headstock, will probably come off (will give it a go). All latches work, it's still solid and in perfect working order. SOLD SOLD Cheers Si

Hi all, No real discussion here, however in my tiny quest to find a decent, well-fitted, gig bag for my 2006 MIJ Fender Mustang bass (harder than you might think), it's become clear that the measurements of the bass aren't really online anywhere. As such, this is largely just for the benefit of anyone Googling for the same thing to compare against internal measurements of gigbags: Overall length (including strap button): 42.5” (108cm) Body length: 19” (48.25cm) Body width: 12” (30.5cm) Headstock at widest point ( at E string, including tuner): 5.75” (14.6cm) Headstock at narrowest (at G string, including tuner): 4.25” (10.8cm) Only thing I forgot is body thickness, but I can't imagine it would have a bearing on whether a bag would fit. Will add later if I remember. I'll also update as and when I find a suitable bag, currently investigating offerings from Maruszczyk & Eastwood, possibly Gator. Harvest make a shortscale leather one, but more than I want to pay. I've had brief discussions with Mono, Reunion Blues, Protection Racket & Fusion about what they might offer in the future, although nothing in the short-term I don't believe. To be clear, this does not include hardcases. Cheers Si

Fairly recent shot. Two amps, one is simply spare. Never really needed it, but both amps, pedalboard and all cables fit in the silver flight case that it all stands on....so may as well lol. Obviously quite modular as well, so I'll sometimes go out with just the Midget, or just the Compact. Si

Bass Guitar Magazine and Bass Player to merge
Sibob replied to Kevsy71's topic in General Discussion
Yup, I absolutely still read BGM. Whilst there is a wealth of amazing knowledge both here and elsewhere online, I love having a wider, more holistic bass community. It's a big family and wouldn't want to see any of it closed down. Will be interesting to see how the merger pans out! Si -
Don't normally post in here, because it would quickly get boring for you to read lol, but this weekend was special. 8am Saturday: Leave High Wycombe in the band van, destination: Troon in Scotland for a wedding. 4:30pm Saturday: Arrive in Troon after a chilled drive with a couple of hour-long stops. *Play gig* 12:15am Sunday: Leave venue for High Wycombe 6:20am Sunday: Arrive back in High Wycombe, leave for Hemel. 7:00am Sunday: Go to bed 11:30am Sunday: Take the family to 'A Day Out With Thomas The Tank Engine' in Aylesbury 😂 Until next week lol Si
