  1. With the greatest of respect, I don’t think you’re going to get a great overview with 370 subscribers! There’s also the issue of everyone wanting something different, the one comment you have so far is to do a play-through of some obscure band. Hardly something for the masses to flock to. The best you can do is just make videos that you like making, make them interesting and content rich, tag them correctly and people will find you! You also have to be consistent in whatever you do, post once a week without fail for example! As someone who looks out for influencers as part of my job, i’ll tell you now that it’s about good quality and consistent content, views, interaction with followers and number of subscribers....almost in that order! Si
  2. Excellent strings!! Great choice Si
  3. Have you trouble-shooted (trouble-shot?) the rest of your setup? Seems odd that it's totally fine off a gig, but not on the gig. As has been mentioned, they're quite thirsty, so make sure you're powering it right if it's sharing it's draw with a bunch of other pedals. Si
  4. Well I can't leave this indefinitely can I haha, so I've renamed the tracks to reflect what they are and closed the poll. As most of you guessed, 1 was indeed the Lakkie and 2 the Fender. Adding to it further, I've now also added a third track which is the Lakland with a set of La Bella 760FS flats, much closer to what the Fender is strung with, very mildly thicker gauge. I should also say that I had to bring up the volume of the Fender up a fair amount in Logic for this test, the Lakland as well being a bit more focussed (although arguably slightly less lows), is a lot louder. You'd probably expect that from a new pickup though, but wanted a fair test avoiding any psycho-acoustic bias. Si
  5. Is it definitely the amp/cab setup. How does the bass sound through other setups? What strings are you using? How often do you change them? Si
  6. Oh really? I'd say there's a fairly distinct difference, are you listening on headphones or decent speakers? Si
  7. La Bella RX Steels (https://bassdirect.co.uk/bass_guitar_specialists/LaBella_Roundwound.html) Si
  8. Just for a bit of fun. Obviously goes without saying that you should use good headphones or speakers, no phones or laptop speakers . Here we have two sound files, one is a 1971 Precision with La Bella 760FL flats, the other is a Lakland Skyline Bob Glaub with La Bella Low Tension Flats. Which do we think is which? 1 - 2- And added after the poll was closed, just for further comparison/consideration, same Lakland bass, different La Bella flats: Si
  9. For what it’s worth, I have a Bass Collection Jive bass and it’s very good. Excellent finish, quality parts and nice bunch of people too. Si
  10. Yes I did see the Thomann one actually...... but I didn’t want to (couldn’t) pay new prices haha Si
  11. 1971 Precision that i’ve always been led to believe is all original: Si
  12. Very cool! Not often you see the 1.75” nuts with blocks GLWTS Si
  13. I think Jeff’s general point, from what i’ve gathered from videos, is that you have chosen your curriculum, and that rarely happens with other, more classical, instruments. But in the same way as the best way of learning medicine to a professional standard is to be taught medicine by a professional teacher, the same is true of music, separating the mechanics from the art. That’s not to say that amazing musicians don’t exist outside of that (i’d be interested to know Jeff’s thoughts on someone like Jacob Collier, famously an autodidact), obviously they do, but simply put, the best and most effective way to learn music (which is different from performing music), is to be taught it as a completely subject, not pick and choose what we think we want to learn. Si
  14. Well worth knowing! Cheers for that, glad you’re enjoying the dock! Si
  15. Would be interested to know what you concluded? The Dock is simply an interface between your instrument and the iPad, it’s class compliant with iOS, no drivers etc, so there is no ‘compatibility’ issues.....something else will be at play I suspect. Worst case, have a word with Tech support on Monday (or on livechat now until about 1am uk time). Cheers Si // Focusrite Media Relations
  16. I’ve recently found my way to a number of your one-to-one clinics on YouTube, and got a lot from them I have to say, so thanks for that! I’d be interested to know whether you think there is a distinction between learning music (the basis of harmony and rhythm etc), and reading music. Does reading aid learning music further than being able to get reading jobs? Or is it simply for the puroposes of executing excercises as part of your learning. Is it possible to be a great conversationalist without learning how to read and write Many thanks Si
  17. I’m on 7 currently. But that’s it, no more, am on a very strict, self imposed ‘one in, one out’ now 1 - Lakland Skyline 44-64 2 - Lakland Skyline 55-01 3 - Lakland US 44-94 4 - 1971 Fender Precision 5 - Fender Mustang 6 - ACG Krell 6 7 - Bass Collection Jive fretless Si
  18. I was lucky to have this presented to me, there doesn't seem to be any Skyline BGs or 44-64s for sale (certainly the full fat Ps, plenty of the jack necked 'Custom'). The only other one I found was at The Gallery, black, white pg, rosewood fingerboard. Si
  19. Big shout out to Markbass UK (MSL Pro & Real Electronics) for a 24 hour turnaround on a small LM800 repair!

That is good. My local Tech speaks very highly of the CS team - always get his order out promptly.

Used real electronics before. They were nothing but amazing.

  20. 1.75" with a fairly shallow profile, so very early 60's Fender-esque. And that was part of the reason for wanting another Precision, my '71 has the B neck (1.625"), and I wanted something as 'full-fat' Precision as I could They do also do the 44-64 'Custom' now, both as a P and a P/J, basically the Glaub but with a Jazz (with blocks) neck. Owned one of the P/J 'Customs' for a few days last year, but didn't gel, sent it back and used the money towards my US 44-94 P/J. This BG though is really great! Si
  21. Live drummer and trigger the samples from a couple of midi foot controllers, that way, you can share the duties between you and the guitarist whilst still playing (maybe even the drummer too with an SPX as above). Si
  22. Whilst I have my wonderful ‘71 Precision, I wanted a Lakland P to go with my 44-94 & 55-01. So I put feelers out, and just so happened that Walshy of this shire has one coming to him on a part ex. Next day, deal done and it’s now with me. 2008 Skyline Bob Glaub (so pre the current 44-64 model, same thing though): Cleaned up, and setup with some La Bella flats and we’re good to go for gigs this weekend This is what I was looking around for a tort plate for. However the stock plate is quite cool, it looks more white in photos, but is actually a nice vintagey mint green! Si
  23. Ah Justin is with Trickfish now? Love Mr Huth! Been a while Si
  24. The F1 has been discontinued for quite a while now, so you'd need to look for new old stock or a used one. But as mentioned above, they make better heads now, pickup either a used LM3 or LM800 to get a loud amp at a good price! Even a used LM2 will probably do you better. It also depends what you mean by 'bigger gigs', if you have PA support, then yes definitely. Raise the cab a bit and you're essentially just using it for monitoring. If you have no PA support, I'd want at least a 2x12 (or at least a single 4 ohm cab) to get the most from the amp. Without PA support, it's not just about being loud, it's about filling the room with low-end.....and more low-end means more power and excursion I use a LM800 or LM2 through two Barefaced 2x12s and they easily fill a medium sized room with the amount of low end I want with no PA support. Si
