Oh sorry haha, just that you mentioned a car bodyshop quoting for a full spray, wrong end of the stick Si
-
Lol, why is it doubtful? Si
-
A full car body refin for £200? I don’t think so?! A bass refin will be between £250-500 I’d say, very much depending what you want (natural, solid, metallic etc). You could patch the wear instead probably, instead of a full body refin, but doubt it would get back to ‘as new’. Si

If you want to send them to me (either PM here or email is fine), feel free to PM me and i’ll pop them up Si

10 months today still waiting for Musicman to ship my Stingray....
Sibob replied to Max Normal's topic in General Discussion
I had a US Lakland built to my spec (ie not something you find as a ‘standard’ US model on their website), 3 months My ACG is currently estimated at 10months. I imagine with Musicman, it’s not the build that takes time, it’s the queue you’re in for something non-standard. Si -

Have you asked them? Did they advise a build time? Si -
Yes the Saffire range is now discontinued (on account of Apple depreciating FW as you mention). Typically we’ll support any discontinued product with driver/software updates for two years past discontinuation, however this of course depends on Apples support of that protocol. As such, whilst there is certainly refurbished Saffires to be had on the estore (possibly a minor repair, more likely a demo unit), I’d probably recommend either a Scarlett 18i20 (USB, same preamps as Saffire), or Clarett 8Pre (Thunderbolt or USB, better preamps/audio spec). Cheers Si // Focusrite Media Relations

There isn’t really any official recommendations here. Fundamentally it’s not rack-mountable and we wouldn’t recommend tampering with any fixings. As such, the ‘best’ solution would be to purchase a rack-mountable interface (Saffire Pro40, Scarlett 18i20, Clarett 8Pre etc). Other than that, it’s finding a solution such as you’re already discussing. Sorry I couldn’t be more helpful. Si // Focusrite Media Relations

Any techs can repair my KRK active monitor?
Sibob replied to Twigman's topic in Repairs and Technical
The service centre is in Acton if that helps: http://synthservice.com If you need a spare part, you would need to purchase it from them anyway (or possibly directly from Focusrite (UK distributor) if the service centre don't sell outside of a repair). But whoever fixes it would possibly need the schematics, which wouldn't be released by KRK or the service centre. Si -
This is on their site now: "Important Notice! Please note that we have ongoing technical issues with our main inbound telephone line, so we advise contacting us via our second landline for the moment on 01271 344581." Not sure if it was there when you guys contacted? Thought it worth mentioning. Si

Yup, looks like a medium or short scale string rather than a faulty one. They’ll hook you up Si

What is your budget? Pending that, if the Wal just feels right and literally the only thing is the weight, then as mentioned before, simply talk to Wal about a lighter weight bass. I’m sure they can choose the appropriate woods and maybe even chamber to get it to where you want it. If that’s not near your budget, then you have a whole world of basses to consider, with everyone here having different recommendations. In that case, I would recommend a day trip to London and some time spent at Wunjos and Bass Gallery to see what you like. I would of course mention Bass Direct, but they’re even more north. Si

Haha, I missed that small detail! Felix is playing a 6 fairly exclusively, and whilst he's a very different player, it does make you wonder what Jaco might have found his way to. My personal view is that he might not have gone any further than just using his Jazzes if he was still alive today, and probably thrown himself much more into composition and arrangement for other people. I remember reading an article in Guitarist many years ago, the premise was that 'Hendrix was still alive', and so it was a faux article and rig rundown. It was just a fun article about what he might be upto musically, and what gear he might be using today. I think they came to the conclusion that he'd be using a Parker Fly guitar, amongst other more 'modern' choices (I think Morley was in their as a Wah choice). Odd, but fun. Si

I think the point is that there are a LOT of options open to you, largely people will comment here on what good experiences they've had, and what basses they like. Without knowing what you do and don't like about your Wal, or at the least, what you're interested in trying (oh I fancy a 4 string or a 6 string), it's a little difficult to offer any advice that isn't pretty vague. Knowing a budget would also help. Si
-
I think it's quite widely known that Jaco played 5's in his spare time, never seen the top photo before, obviously the Warwick one is photoshopped. But there are a few photos of him playing an acoustic 5 string bass, it was strung with a high C. Si

Job sharing for a covers band - any advice?
Sibob replied to musicbassman's topic in General Discussion
You say the gig you’ve picked up is a dep gig.....so why not just say you’re unavailable for half th gigs they offer you? Then it's down yo them to find someone else. To be honest, whether you retain the dep slot is another question, you’re just a dep, if someone else can do them all, they might get number one dep slot. Si -
Possibly, but what if you don’t want to play open notes? They invariably sound different to fretted notes, as well as notes higher on the neck sounding warmer and rounder (E on the 12th fret (octave) compared to 7th on A and 2nd on D). You also talk about energy, well frets are closer together higher up the neck, so if your lateral movement is as smooth as it should be, that’s probably as equally energy conserving as playing everything in 1st position?! Dunno I think the lesson is to learn it ALL ways, then you have a choice. Positioning should always be a choice. Si

Would be helpful to know what you like about the Wal and (and be brutal here, no rose-tinted specs) what you don’t like. Si

Pros, Semi-Pros, Hobbyists / Weekend warriors etc.

I’d profer that being a professional musician and having a professional attitude are VERY different things Si -

Sibob replied to Al Krow's topic in General Discussion
I would suggest that: Pro Musician: Earns 100% of their income from musical eneavours Semi Pro: Earns a percentage of their income from musical endeavours, topped up by income from non-musical endeavours. For the sake of crossover with Hobbyist, probably more income than they spend on gear. Hobbyist/Weekend Warrior: Earns a little bit of money, but not enough to add to income after gear purchases. Bedroom Bassist: Not in a band, just plays at home. Although plenty of Pro Musicians as a result of being a bedroom musician now thanks to Youtube All in all, there's so many crossovers and exceptions. Si -
The FX25b sounds great, but because of the volume dip when engaged (there’s no Vol Control), makes it pretty useless live. If the SBW isn’t doing it for you, do yourself a favor and just get an MXR Bass Envelope Filter. Job done. Si

Ah ok sorry, my bad! Very interesting, I have a 33” headless build nearing completion, so worth knowing! Si
