  1. I gigged a KSD 5 string for a few months (borrowed from a mate), and it was nice enough, weird preamp though. Not sure I like the 3x3 headstock on a Jazz.....but as long as it works for you and sounds good Si
  2. Have you asked if they'll swap your days? Si
  3. Never played one, but just from the photo, the upper fret access looks.....uncomfortable at best. Si
  4. Ernie Ball strings are known to die pretty quickly, try something like the Dunlop Super Brights or D'Addario NYXLs, basically anything steel that has more life to them than EBs lol Si
  5. Oh possibly, now I'm re-reading it. Yeah.....don't do that. lol Si
  6. Will someone (a dealer/Ibanez) please do a video of it in a musical context!!! Si
  7. It's really common. You'll probably have to adjust the nut a bit (the B string might be thicker than the groove currently cut for your E string), but other than that, shouldn't be much to do. Depending on the tension of the strings, a slight truss rod adjustment might be necessary, but that depends on the brand really. There shouldn't be much tension difference between a 4 string set made up of a low B or a high G all other things being equal. So it just depends on whether you have a reason to do it Si
  8. I have a Lakland 55-01 and it really punches above it's price IMO. The J-Sonics also look very cool! Both are 35" scale and will probably set you back about £400-£600 used. Si
  9. I had a play of a couple at NAMM last week, I have to say that the black 32" Sacramento I tried, with two BiSonics, was absolutely brilliant. Easy to play and sounded really really good! I want one! Si
  10. Doesn't sound like an upright, harder to play than a fretless electric, swing and a miss for me. My only thought is that this is for upright players who want to play electric fretless, but don't like playing electric?! Si
  11. All I can do is echo the above, the SC is the tonal equivalent of the G2 Compact & G2 Midget combination. I actually use a SC with a G2 midget on top a lot of the time, for nothing else than a little extra reinforcement closer to my ear (vertical stacking etc). Si
  12. I also wonder whether some brands are using roasted maple fingerboards as an easy visual alternative now that CITES is making rosewood a lot more difficult. Si
  13. Don't suppose anyone in the Hemel Hempstead/High Wycombe areas has a Kala U-bass (or very similar) that I might borrow for some recording? If it gets the result I want, may well purchase one. Cheers

Stableyard Music at Hatfield House have a large range of Ukes - you'll probably have to visit them to see which are any good.

Cheers for that Mick, although hoping to borrow and record one first to see if it does what I need :)

  14. It seems that you're completely missing the point of the video and tune. At no point does he categorise 'a whole race', but clearly the archetypes he references do exist. His point, which he gets across brilliantly if you watch the video right to the end, is that understanding can quite often come about by simply communicating. Si
  15. Did you watch the full video? If so, what did you consider controversial about it? If not, do so. Si
  16. Andrew at @Anaconda Basses is another excellent choice. Si
  17. Saw these on the booth at NAMM, had a very quick unamplifed try, very nice indeed!! Si
  18. Doesn’t look right to me, even the worst Friday after job at Fender wouldn’t result in ferrules like that! I think a natural US model would also have more grain in the Ash, that looks quite plain really (for ash). I’d leave it personally. Si
  19. My old bass, I had this commissioned :). It’s really really cool, and weighs 7.2lbs....genuinely! GLWTS Si
  20. Love it, no scratch plate is the way!! Si
  21. @Marc S This is basically the Normon Watt Roy bass, but fretless @SpondonBassed The ashtray pickup cover actually comes fitted over the neck pickup, I’ve removed it though. And Finn (my son) can be thanked for the rug, I actually like it for bass pics haha. Si
  22. With JoCee’s 2nd album starting tracking in a couple of weeks, I wanted a few extra tools, a fretless is amongst them! I didn’t want a lot of money tied up in one, so I contacted The Bass Centre to see if they could do me a fretless Jive Bass in gold. They could, and with a 3 day turnaround too, meaning I got to have a few hours with it before I leave for NAMM tomorrow. So yes, a Bass Collection Jive in Jubilee Gold, matching headstock & an Omega bridge! So far i’m very impressed! I’ll do a review when I’m back! Cheers Si
