  1. Lol, I didn't get that far, but having listened again.....it's still better than the vocal. I possibly overstated my enthusiasm in light of the horrendous performance from Mr Kimball, I'd like to substitute my superlative for 'fantastic', although concede he's not a great soloist compared to many. But in all seriousness, when did we start judging bassists on their ability to solo? You heard Rocco Prestia 'solo'? No-one would argue that he's not incredible Si
  2. Yup, certainly looks it! Incredible player (i’m focusing on the positives). Si
  3. Yup very true, although it's always worth balancing between that significant increase in CPU usage and project size vs latency, which might be completely side-stepped by direct monitoring (depending on your tracking needs). But year, lots of different ways, all have pros and cons and very much depend on what you're trying to achieve Si
  4. Yup, same! Si
  5. SOLD Hi all, Not using roundwounds on my 5 string anymore, so these spare Dunlop Super Brights can go. Unopened, unused (obviously), as new etc etc. I'm 90% sure these are the Steel ones (as opposed to Nickel), but will double-check when I get home. SOLD Cheers Si

    What midi?

Hey, I work for Novation, so am clearly biased. Will leave others here to make suggestions, although do let me know if you have any other questions about the Launchkey 49 mentioned above by someone else Cheers Si // Focusrite & Novation Media Relations

    What midi?

I would personally suggest trying your setup with a midi controller connected over USB, see how you get on, I predict you won’t have any issues. Don’t get too caught up with Din Vs USB at this point. Si
  8. Just realised I've been on Basschat for 11 years O.o....not to mention it's previous guises!

@discreetWas on Bassworld too, although don’t recall how long that was for!

I cant believe basschat has been going that long. It only seemed a few years ago the name changed and I was Bassworld for a good few years too, crazy how much time has passed.

    What midi?

I’d tend to agree, although this was more of a consideration when computers had one or two ports, pretty common to have 4 or more nowadays. Si

    What midi?

For transparency, I work for Novation & Focusrite and am only chipping in with that hat on as our gear has been mentioned. I’m not personally aware of any lesser latency performance of our midi controllers on PC compared to Mac, that said it’s been a LONG time since i’ve used a PC, long time Mac user. Its worth noting that our Launchkey MK2 doesn’t have a 5pin din connector, largely because we worked on the premise that it simply wasn’t needed. Remember that if you run din through an interface, you’re still connecting to your PC via USB. There may be something in how midi is implemented in the 2i2 driver compared to the Windows driver, however that is a step above my knowledge. I could have our UK based tech support give you a call if you want to ask about it PC midi performance Vs Mac with the Launchkeys, or of course call them at your convenience on: 01494 462246 If there’s anything else I can answer, please let me know. You might have slightly better luck if you move this to the 'Recording' forum, let me know and I can shift it if you want. Cheers Si
  13. Very much so, but I think his books are closed (could be wrong about that). Pretty active on Instagram, and I assume Facebook, so maybe try messaging through there. Si
  14. Isn’t it pointless trying the cab with a different amp than yours? Let alone in a shop (not a gig setting). I’d suggest taking your Elf back (enough has been made of how easy they are to transport), try it as you see fit and buy it if you want. Job done, no more negativity. Easy Si
  15. For £400? Good luck with that! For the year and budget, I’d definitely go Peavey T-40. Si
  16. You might want to re-word this?! Lol Si
  17. I'd pick 5 new songs to learn, because where can be the downside of that? I'd keep the 5 I know in reserve (although probably just say to them I've been through 10 songs when I arrive at the rehearsal, looks better), and simply accept that I'd need to watch and listen for arrangement differences. If you truly know the songs (know the parts and not just on auto-pilot from another band), arrangement on the fly is relatively easy if you have a good ear. Keys can be a little tricker to change on the fly (depending on your skill level), especially if they have some riff based tunes, but presumably they've supplied you the keys? If not, that's a basic requirement of them I'd say. Si
  18. £2k for a refinished ‘72 Jazz seems a bit steep to me. As long as it’s cool though Si
  19. Good to see Marc back playing after that train hit him (and the drummer?!), certainly sounding great on that Fodera! Si
  20. Sold the day after lol, says a lot for it!! Si
  21. As long as it suits it's purpose for you, then all good. But I wouldn't part with £10 for that let alone £150, dogs dinner. Had a mate who bought an Ali Express Fodera copy and it was just awful. He tried to rework it, but think he just binned it after all. Si
  22. Of the two, it really depends what you're looking to do. More clip-based electronic music, or live looping/triggering etc, Ableton is unparalleled, it is genuinely excellent. However whilst it is very capable of 'standard' audio tracking, Reaper is much more akin to the classic 'Logic' and 'GarageBand' visual, so probably a bit more intuitive straight up. You also get Pro Tools First with your 2i4, so that's another option, although I'm personally not a fan. I've been a Logic guy for the past 15 years, and there I'll stay haha. Cheers Si
  23. I had one of these (ie ‘lawsuit’ headstock). It was my first bass and was purchased new in the early 90’s, exactly when I don’t remember. Unfortunately no idea when they were introduced or when the headstock changed shape. Si
  24. I have three 34” 4 strings, a 35” 5 string, a 33” 6 string on the way (have had a few 33ers before) , and am looking out for a shortscale (30”). They’re all great for different things, no bother swapping between them all. Si
