  1. Absolutely, but some basses require less of that stuff in certain mixes, and so if available, they’re oftenp referred Si
  2. Haha....well Janek is also partly to blame Si
  3. There’s pics of him playing a Precision too. Si
  4. Have you confirmed that the bass on the recording is the one he uses live? Si

Last bump before the VB-2 goes on eBay I think Cheers Si
  6. Also worth noting that the recorded bass isn’t necessarily what he uses live. Ask him on social media?! Si
  7. Jazz Bass, everything up. Roundwounds of any brand. Pick. Ampeg stack (optional) Done* Si *its a recording, there will undoubtably be some EQing & compression happening by the engineer/masterer.
  8. I have a 55-01 with swapped out US Bartolini electronics. It hits way above its price point and I'm really happy with it! Si

Just get Reaper and see what you think lol....it's free to evaluate. Start learning it and stop listening to us Si
  10. If the 8.5lbs weight without trying a number of basses is a deal-breaker (to find a decent weighted production model, be it Lakland or Fender etc), then I'd be looking at Maruszczyk. I specified a chambered body for my build, 33" scale with Ultralite tuners and it came in at 7.2lbs. Sounded massive too! Not to mention that they have so much stock on their site that you can search through and pick one with the weight you want pretty easily if you don't want to commission a custom. Si

I think I'd sum up my preferences with the following table: Mac 1. Logic 2. Reaper Windows 1. Reaper 2. Cubase Si
  12. The Duck Dunn is as much of a non-starter as the Nate Mendel if that is your reasoning.....they're production models, they're all going to vary in weight, someone above mentioned they had a Dunn which was very light. You just have to try some, don't buy blind is the key. Or if you do, check the returns/refund policy. Si
  13. I should say that my 44-64 Custom P/J sounded good, was a reasonable weight and played well, but there were a few niggling finish issues that I couldn't let go. An anomaly I think, as my DJ4 was great and so is my 55-01. I could have swapped it out for another one with Guitar Guitar, but ultimately put the money towards my US Lakland, and glad I did. I think you find a good'n used, or are able to try a few in a shop, pick the best one....you're onto a winner! Si
  14. I have two of these: https://www.public-peace.de/accessories/straps/maruszczyk-instruments/1889-pes40-retro Really love them, wide, padded and very comfortable. Si
  15. Buy whichever bass is best (in your opinion)?! You can avoid lemons by trying them before you buy. You can afford fake vintage stuff by doing due dilligence and asking advice on here. Simples Si
  16. Also note that the 44-64 is modelled after a 1964 Precision neck I believe (i.e. a 'C' neck).....it's the 44-64 Custom that has a Jazz neck! You can also get a 44-64 Custom P/J (obviously with an added Jazz pickup), I had one of these and I didn't fall in love with it, it wasn't as cool as the Skyline DJ4 I had. Ultimately both went back to fund a custom US 44-94. I'd definitely have another DJ4 if it was as good as the one I had, but would need to shop around to find a nice 44-64 should I revisit it. But the 44-94 more than covers both of them to be fair (mine is a passive P/J). Si
  17. I'd quite like to find a cheaper Precision that was better than my '71.....means I could sell it and make some money back without losing a quality instrument haha. Alas....... Si
  18. I wouldn't agree with this at all, I would say that, ultimately (music 'business' aside) the overriding purpose is, or should be, the creation of the music between the performers, the 'conversation' that they're having for their own enjoyment. The crowd is just there for the ride. And so with that in mind, the experience of the player, whether that extends to their instrument or not, becomes an intrinsic part of that. Whether the player puts any importance on it is another, subjective, question. Si
  19. I don't think it's a lot of people who broadly think vintage instruments are 'better', I think those who play 'vintage' instruments (and I'd probably suggest that means pre 1980 in the context of this discussion) are the minority and a LOT more people play new/modern instruments, and those who ONLY play vintage instruments because of a perceived superiority is even fewer than that. I imagine, in most cases, any instrument used at a given time is seen to be the best instrument for that purpose for that player, be it vintage or otherwise. I bought a 1971 Precision because I was interested in an instrument that would hold (and increase) it's value, that said, I've never played a better sounding Precision with flats than this....and that includes a 1963 Precision I borrowed for a few gigs. There are probably modern Precisions that are as good, but I've yet to play them. Conversely, I've never found a vintage Jazz bass that I've gelled with, so my very new Lakland 44-94 does that job for me, lovely bass and nicer than any vintage Jazz I've played. Si
  20. I'm playing in a Casino......it'll be interesting lol Si
  21. He's talking about a 'production' model as well as some hand built ones. So I reckon $3-4000 for the production, and $6-8000 for the hand built. Not liking the double-cut (which is possibly weird coming from someone with two Laklands (because it is similar)), and not keen on the Mattison take on singlecut. Out of the those two specific builders, I'd prefer to save and save and save for a Fodera. But yes, still sounds like Janek....which says a lot Si
