1. Cheapskate my arse - that's brilliant.
2.
I find myself arguing against the relative merits of the Beatles simply because of the hysterical reaction.
Really? Have you nothing better to do? Who's being hysterical?
3. Just picked one of these up and I'm moved to say this is probably the best of the 6 Precisions I've owned. I feel a pupgrade coming on at some point but wow, what a bass for the money.
4. Thanks for the link 51m0n, that's great.
5.
I guess that would be the kind of argument that academics might have to argue black is white or that water is not wet. First of all, of course we would have to define 'superstars' and 'overrated' - that would occupy at least 12 pages on BC. Just a little factoid for the younger BCers regarding the Fabs: In 1964 The Beatles held the top 5 positions in the Billbord 100 chart, and they had 7 other records in that same chart.
Good factoid SteveK. I'll never understand how anyone can use the word 'overrated' when talking about the Beatles or dismiss their huge influence on music. I've said this before in previous Beatles discussions so forgive my repeating this but you had to be there in the 60s to really appreciate the effect they had and not just on music - but on British culture, it was enormous. I lived right opposite Paul from 1959 on and grew up in a road that was bursting at the seams every single day with onlookers and screaming girls who made a lot of noise, caused havoc and nicked things out of his garden. That was 50 years ago - my Mum still lives there with my brother and still they're plagued every single day by coachloads of people who come from all over the world to stand outside and stare at the house where Paul used to live. They don't scream any more, they don't nick things out of his garden, they just stand there quietly taking photos of the house where someone famous lived half a century ago. Doesn't that speak volumes?
6. Bought a really nice CV Precision off Pete. It was a pleasure to meet him and do the deal. He has some seriously nice basses too. Thanks again Pete. Highly recommended.
7.
It may also be that some have to play with the sound EQ'd a certain way and can't adapt if that sound doesn't work. What do you put first...good sound or the sound you have/want to use...?? I find I tweak my sound over the weeks and then have to adjust my playing to that.... but I always start from a 'clean' sound so the adjustments aren't any sort of pain, and then embellish it as per my whims Depends how much your technique is dependent on sound ..
Technique isn't really a consideration for me, I play the notes I want to play in the way I play them but a good on stage sound makes me play just a little bit better.
8. I stuck my Markbass 104HF on a couple of beer crates last night - what a difference. Previously, the cab sounded great in the mix out front but really boomy on stage, last night it was tight, punchy and I could hear every note. It probably sounds a bit weird but I felt like I was in control of the sound rather than the cab and subtle changes to the EQ really came out. Sold to the fat bloke in Preston.
9. Forgot to say 'excellent service' from Stringbusters
10. Thanks a lot Bass Doc - I really appreciate your help but I think I'll be ok. I put the old B back on which'll see me through this weekend's gig. I rang the aptly monikered Stringbusters this morning and they're posting a replacement B string out to me today with a SAE to return the broken one.
11. [sup]Inbound Squier CV Precision - problem sorted [/sup]
12. Yeh, I'll give 'em a call in the morning and see what they want to do. Hopefully I can keep the other 4 on and just send the B back.
13. Can't believe it, just paid £44 for a set of DR Fat Beams and managed to break the 130 B string while tuning up Arse.
14. I like your thinking Gary
15. That cab would be great for all my gigs
16. I did something I said I'd never do again and joined a classic rock band. They detune half a step which I genuinely don't understand why and it pisses me off but.... because I don't fully know the songs yet, I kinda learn/play them on the hoof watching the guitarists hands. Which means I have to detune too. My question is, will it cause any long term issues with my neck detuning and then retuning after the gig / rehearsal?
17. Looking good Mr Muzz
18. That's my old bass, it's a beauty, buy with confidence.
19. Stunning Bill, just stunning. I love Jon's work.
White Shuker PJ
21. How ya doin' fella? Long time no speak... I'm thinking about having another pickguard made for it but can't decide what to have.
22. Just waiting for the rugby to start and I thought I'd kill some time taking some pics of my latest squeeze. I had it on the bed and the stairs. It's a C-lover Avenger Diana Rigg Custom...ooer
