Friday night I saw John Otway and Wild Willy Barrett. A great evenings entertainment and unlike anything you've ever seen.

Two slow songs with great bass line, both played by the legendary Tommy Cogbill

Everyone should be free to do other projects but it will come to a head when the inevitable diary clash happens. Our tub thumper who plays with two other bands was adamant that whats in the diary first is the gig he will play. One of his other bands put loads of pressure on him to blow our gig that had been booked for nine months so that they could do a one hour set at a beer festival as it's a really important gig (Beer Festival WTF !!) for the band. We had to get a dep and have two rehearsal. The dep was good but it was still a sub standard gig. We're looking for a new drummer.

I compared insure4music with ampband. Ampband offered a better deal when comparing PLI so we went with them.

Bass doesn't come in until the chorus, but it lifts the whole song with a dead simple line.

Slap Happy Chappy? No, Cos I'm Crappy :(
Buzzy replied to DoubleOhStephan's topic in General Discussion
I went through this in the 80s, slap was everywhere so I thought I'd better learn how to slap if I wanted to be taken seriously as a bass player. Had a few lessons but I could never get to grips with it so gave up trying to slap. A few months later I went to an audition and the guy who was trying out while I waited was giving it the full Mark King treatment Trace rig and a JD on a strap so short the bass was almost under his chin. I went in for my turn and said to the band if you want some one who can do all that stuff then I wont even bother setting up. They offered me the job straight away, they said I was the first one to audition who hadn't gone straight into a slap fest. Since then I've never tried to learn slap and have never been asked if I can do it. -

Your experiences of playing in a tribute band.
Buzzy replied to Grassie's topic in General Discussion
If the opportunity has come up and its a working trib I would say go for it. I did twelve years in Not The Rolling Stones, I played some fantastic gigs around the world and had some great times. I left the band for two reasons, I found it increasingly difficult to balance work and gigs as the band got even busier but most of all I got bored with playing the same stuff over and over again. This is the curse of tribute bands, you can end up having to play the bleeding obvious set every gig. -
Thanks for posting this, Klaus is one of my favourite players.

Another classic JMB advert https://www.joinmyband.co.uk/classifieds/abbey-wood-metal-stoner-rock-t1134280.html I bet rehearsals will be fun.

What are must know songs for Jam nights ?
Buzzy replied to shoulderpet's topic in General Discussion
I looked around for a blues jam as a way of meeting other musos when I was between bands. I found one that wasn't too far away and thought I would give it a try. Luckily they were posting clips on youtube ..... I didn't bother. -
Another bass legend gone https://bestclassicbands.com/joe-osborn-obituary-12-16-18/

I watched the documentary on The Damned (Don't you wish we were dead) last night. It was a combination of all the usual reasons that musos keep going. Financial necessity plays a big part, especially if they have been ripped off by the record company, management or other band members. But the main thing that came over from them was what else could they do? There's no way Captain Sensible could have retired at 50 and done a regular job.

Really enjoyed Mattiel, I thought her band were had a bit of attitude. Jungle sounded like an 80s revival band. As for Damon and co, I was dissapointed. I bought the first GB&TQ album which was ok in parts but looking at the new stuff maybe they should have left it as a one off project.

Register with https://www.justpark.com/ . I used them three times for gigs at the O2. It cost £7:50 to park on a private driveway instead of £25 + to park at the venue and then spend an hour in the queue getting out. If you don't mind a 15 minute walk it's perfect.

My best heckle was when I played gig in a pub that had been taken over by bikers, the landlord told us absolutely no encores and we must finish at 11:00. End of the second set they are all shouting for more, we get the nod from the landlord that we can do one more song. Guitarist ( who doesn't like encores) "ok, you've twisted my arm , we'll do one more" Voice from the crowd " We'll twist your f*****g head if you don't.

Tribute bands - where the name is better than the band
Buzzy replied to Happy Jack's topic in General Discussion
They are very much still gigging, I depped with them for four gigs in June. We played a fantastic gig in the town square in Calais the day France knocked Argentina out of the world cup, needless to say the crowd were up for a party that hight. -
I left a band after 12 years due to boredom with the music and wanting to play different stuff. I assured them there were no personal issues and that I would cover the gigs for the following two months. Also offered to dep if they needed someone. We are all still on good terms and I occasionally go to one of their gigs. Just be honest about why you're leaving and try to part on good terms.
