1. I've been offered some gigs with an acoustic band. In the past when I've done acoustic gigs I've used my P bass with foam under the strings and played with my thumb through a small combo. This has given me a nice thuddy sound. This band have asked if I would use an acoustic bass or a Ubass as it fits the look of the band. I had an acoustic bass years ago and had feedback problems with it, also it was too quiet when played unplugged. Should I buy another acoustic bass or go for one of these Uke Basses ? Hobgoblin have an Ashbury uke bass does anyone know if they are ok ? Any advice would be welcome, the band has got potential so I'm tempted to buy something but not sure what the best option would be.
2. Price Drop, £750 o.n.o.
3. Thomann 22 3/4 Europe DB. Strung with Spirocore Mediums and has a K&K Bassmax pickup fitted. Comes in a Westbury 22mm Padded Bass bag. Set up was done by Malcolm Tysoe in Kent just after I bought it in 2014. Excellent condition no dings, has only been gigged a few times. Was used mainly for recording and playing at home.
4. Paul Simon in November.
5. Enjoyed the program, a great idea in the age of X factor and BGT to do something featuring musicians instead of the usual kareoke competitions.
6. The Charlton gig was 1976,40 years ago next week, I was there (and the one they did in 74) and remember the torrential rain all day. Everyone sang along to The Alex Harvey band playing Delilah. Roger Daltrey slipped over on all the rain on the stage as the band made their entrance,
7. They seem to have a bit of a habit of "borrowing" stuff https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tiiY4ciKFQA
8. Reading this thread made me buy a ticket for his show in Dartford last night. I bought his first album back in 71 but lost track of him during the punk wars of 77/78. The show was great, quality songs (even the ones I didnt know) and a top rate band. I'll be buying a few more of his albums to catch up on what I missed for the last 40 years.
9. Had a great gig Saturday at Arches in Coventry. Packed house and the crowd singing along from the first number.
10. Stones tribute at The Arches Coventry tomorrow, yours truly on bass (Darryl Clones). Would be great to meet any fellow Basschatters.
11. James Taylor Quartet in December , with the excellent Andrew McKinney on bass. Plenty of this type of thing https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FuD4lbLuTUg
12. Were they ok about having a P bass instead of an upright ? I was offered a dep gig with a swing band but they withdrew the offer when I said I would be using an electric.
13. A huge loss, I played bass on a song about the legendary Top of the Pops performance. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5fN1GdJ3Tk
14. My first new years eve without a gig for about 15 years, our gig was cancelled two days ago.Spending the evening at home watching TV (not Jools) with a large G&T.

16. I bought the bass clef (6th edition )version of the Real Book, it has the chords and the notation. A lot of the standards I expected to find in there weren't there so check before you buy.

20. Glad you like it JapanAxe, I'm always going back to it to learn another great bass line
21. Not online lessons but great transcriptions ( notation not tab) http://freebasspart.pv24.pagesperso-orange.fr/index.htm

23. I'll be playing Brown Sugar and Bitch tonight in my Stones tribute (Not The Rolling Stones) and they both always go down a storm. The band has been gigging for 10 years and no one has ever complained about Brown Sugar or any of their other songs with risqué lyrics ( star****er, under my thumb etc) our singer even dedicates Bitch to his ex wife sometimes. I think the punters are more likely to complain if we dropped Brown Sugar rather than worry about the lyrics. Don't think Stray Cat Blues will ever make it onto the set list.
