1. I saw them on the one show and thought it was very rough, mainly Wilkos vocals and guitar. Maybe his illness has taken a lot more out of him than we realised. Its great that he beat cancer and is still playing but maybe he needs a bit longer to get back to full strength.
2. Been playing bass in Not The Rolling Stones for over 10 years, we've gigged in Croatia, Italy, Holland, Belgium, Kuwait and France (Le Mans) and we are off to Bulgaria this year. Done everything from biker festivals to a 70th birthday party. I love it. 3. Amazing gig last night...Bakithi Kumalo is a legend https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mbf11WCo1pA
4. Great piece on a great man. I used to have a copy of his autobiography " I am the blues" but lost it in a house move a few years ago.
5. Report it to the Police and get a crime number, then try contacting whoever runs Join my band. If they have any details of this slug they might be duty-bound to pass them on to the police as part of any investigations that are made.
6. Definitely not music, LBC, 5 live, BBC World service or nothing
7. I did two "showcase" type gigs with my mates originals band at the Dublin Castle and the Anchor and Hope in Camden. The evening went like this, drive around for about 20 minutes trying to park. Dump the gear on the pavement while double parked then drive around again and find a parking space about a 20 minute walk from the gig. Walk into the gig and the promoter said "it's ok if two of the other bands use you bass amp isn't it mate ?" I refused on the grounds that if they haven't got amps they are not a band. We were the second band on and we had a 30 minute slot, the other bands were in the other bar while we played and our audience was the 15 mates who had come to see us. Finished the set got the car, loaded up while the next band who had travelled from the midlands played to an empty room. Went home after wasting an evening and getting no money for doing it. At least I only had a 50 mile round trip as Iive in Kent.
8. I'm catching the tour at the O2, Paul Simon always has a brilliant band. This gig is part of a run of gigs I'm going to that feature great bassist. I saw Pino last week with The Who, I've got Bakithi and Sting this month and John McVie with Fleetwood Mac in May.
9. Thanks Tom, I'll be working on it tomorrow.
10. Does any one have a transcription of the DB part of Walk on the wild side? I have to play it for a one off gig next week and wanted to learn the fills properly. The main riff is no problem but there's a bit more to the bass part than I thought . I'm playing it with another bass player who is doing the bass guitar parts so it would be great to get it right rather than busk it .
11. Loved his playing with Van Morrison in the 70s https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-eVZIVir1ZE & https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cpPSBzGEklE
12. I was in a band that decided it would be amusing for a bunch of blokes in their 40s to play an "Ironic" version of Like a Virgin. This horror was in the set for about 6 months before the "joke" wore thin. The band split up about 15 years ago but I still cringe whenever I hear it.
13. Sound of song was really interesting but I only lasted for about 20 minutes of the Kraftwerk doc. Too many pretentious twats (P.Morley) for me, also once you have watched this https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dwaxWoJPUC0 Kraftwerk will never be the same.
14. Hi folks and a happy new year. Anyone have any opinions on the GKMB210 combo. I'll be using a Jazz bass through it and it will have to cope with various sizes of venues. I've got the MB112 which I use for double bass but I want 2 x 10 for electric. Also open to suggestions for head and cab but I definitely want 2x10.
15. I got my Thomann 22 a few months ago, it's a great moment when you get it out of that massive box. Make sure you get a set up as soon as you can. Mine arrived with the bridge laying on its side so I had to fit the bridge. Also the sound post had moved during transit. The sound post was put in position and the bridge was reduced to lower the action. Enjoy your DB
16. Jazz + flats is all I use. D'Addario Chromes on a MIJ 75 reissue...love it
17. Double Bass, pork pie hat and shades.....full house
18. While in dispute with his record label Meatloaf was known as "The artist formally known as mince"
19. Great event, played there this year in my Stones tribute. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Bb8AO63uRd4
20. Got to decide what sound you want, I think it's the same for all instruments. You would not buy an electric guitar in the hope that it sounds like an acoustic. Same goes for electric or acoustic drums, piano and wind instruments. They all have their place within music but they all have their own sound. If you want the DB sound you have get a DB.
21. I saw Booker T & the MGs in the early 90s, I was lucky enough to meet Duck Dunn after the gig and have a 20 minute chat with him. He also signed my ticket which is now framed and on my dining room wall.
22. I use this quite a bit for slower songs,It stops me playing too many notes which can happen when using two fingers. Also brings as slightly different feel to the song. Used on my P which is fitted with flats and a lump of sponge under the strings by the bridge I get a real old school thuddy sound.
23. A Double Bass pioneer that time has forgotten https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-6jKZ6hZwx0 Enjoy
