Agree with the majority on here, I had a big old rig back in the 90s, Amp, 4x10 and 1x15. played my P bass through it. It never failed on me, was earth shatteringly loud but weighed a ton.

Thanks for the replies, I have bought a MIJ Squier P (in Oly White) from Basschatter outsider70 on here last night.

I’ve been learning Tenor Sax for nearly two years and need to start playing with other musicians. I’m quite busy playing bass with my regular band but wondered if there are any bands out there in the Kent/ S.E. London area looking for a Sax player on a semi regular basis. Nothing too frantic, Soul/Blues/Rock sort of stuff would be good

Can any Basschatters recommend some one who can fix my Ashdown MAG 210 in the North Kent/ South East London area. Half way through a gig on Saturday it developed a loud buzzing noise. When its switched on there is a quiet buzz which then becomes very loud. Anyone had this type of fault happen to them? cheers

Realy sad about this, I met him once at the Town and Country club London in 1990. Me and my mate saw Booker T and the MGs and waitied to meet the band. We were allowed into the after gig party and got to chat with all the band . Duck signed my ticket after we had a chat about Fender necks (P v J) and how he missed playing with Al Jackson. Must have been an omen when my amp packed up during my gig last night

i've used a bit of foam under sthe strings on and off over the years,it's a great sound in the right place. If you get a chance to see the "Classic Albums" program about Lennons Plastic Ono Band theres some bits with the great Klaus Voorman showing his bassline all played on his beaten up Precision with a lump of foam under the strings, great sound .Check this at 3:30 http://www.youtube.c...1&v=KeV_qWk-_9s

Thanks for the input, now I've got to think about parting with my 70s P which I've had for years. Trouble is I played a 67 Jazz the other night and I'm gassing for a vintage Jazz, but would need to sell something to pay for it.

Any Basschatters dealt with Vintage and Rare in the dreaded Denmark Street? I'm thinking of selling my 70s P and looking for an old Jazz Bass. Anyone have any thoughts on approaching them for a possible trade?

On the negative side I would say that the Drummer sounds too heavy, every cymbal crash washes over the band (even Bonzo didn't drown out the rest of Zeppelin) and the singers range is a bit one dimentional for the songs you are covering. On the positive side I would say you can all play well and and the singer stays in tune. I think you should have a few quiet rehersal, work out some backing vocals and maybe shift the focus of the set towards the songs that the singer seems more comfortable with, then she would open up more and the band would go with her. Build on your strengths as a band.

My main band is The Ronnies we do a Ronnie Lane/Ronnie Wood tribute but we also slip in the odd original track like this http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y06DUa2cDT4 we mostly do pub gigs with the occasional party, bike show or small festival thrown in. Most of us from The Ronnies also play in a Stones tribute http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B4U0J1I2s6Q...feature=related mainly parties or corporates, last year we did a festival in Belgium and a bikers rally in Croatia. One of the guys also has a solo side project... Glamweazel http://www.myspace.com/glamweazel2 ,the picture is Glamweazel using my 75 reissue Jazz but it me playing on the first four tracks. We're launching his new album at the Dublin Castle Camden in March.

Sunburst CIJ 62 Reissue P with pick up covers and added thumb rest. Basswood body with Jap pup. I bought it from Far East Guitars in September 2009 but have hardly used it as I’m really a J bass man and bought the P in a fit of GAS. Its strung with D’addario Chrome flats which give it a nice retro sound. I can throw in a Fender gig bag as well. I'm looking for £475 o.n.o SOLD !!!! Donation sent to BC

+1 for David Hood,he seems to be overlooked in these type of discussions. Check him here... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_nwbTeIN4Y playing with his long time partner on drums Roger Hawkins.

Thanks for the opinions, after all the positive comments I'm gonna try one out. Nice that people are happy with the flat sound as I really can't be doing with loads of messing about with settings. The stuff I play (Stones,Faces) just needs a nice classic bass sound,I use a Jap 62 P or 75 J so I don't need anything too zingy.

Anyone got any opinions or experience of Gallien Kruger, a mate has recommended GK and I wondered if any Basschatters had any thoughts. I need something that can be heard over two guitarists and keys, at the moment I'm using an Ashdown Mag210 sometimes with a 1x15 extension cab but i've had them for seven years and I'm having a bit of a GAS attack for some nice new gear.
