This is very sad news. I've talked with Simon a few times as a fellow sax offender (as he liked to put it) and it was always a pleasure, a genuinely nice guy. A sad loss to the basschat community and no doubt many in the 'real' world. My condolences and prayers to his friends and family.
  3.
I'd recommended the following for you to try out: The new Phronesis album 'Alive' is simply astounding - beautifully recorded and the craftsmanship is incredible.
This is the best album I've listened to all year. I saw them perform at Brecon Jazz festival on Saturday and it was great. My favourite track is "Abraham's New Gift". The bass playing is some of the best I've heard, Hoiby has some serious skill. It's definitely an album that's worth listening to, especially as a bass player or a composer.
  4.
if its a chorus stompbox they are not meant to go in the fx loop, gain or impedance or something else a bit technical is wrong i am told, they are meant to go between instrument and preamp input.
They're not meant to but they can. You just need a buffer between the amp's return and the effect's input. I like pitch shifters, filters and dirt before the amp and modulation, delay and reverb in the amp effects loop.
  5.
Just wondering what D2 is between C5 and R7?
There aren't any diodes in a fuzz face circuit so you could just leave it out and it wouldn't affect the sound. But, I'm pretty sure it's in there for polarity protection. So if you're wiring it up with a DC jack as well as a battery, I'd use a 1N4001 For what it's worth, the Zvex made Fuzz Factories don't have polarity protection.
  6.
Nice I have a few new toys but have realised my downsize to a PT Mini was too much. Looks like I'm going to have to go bigger again before any new pics come out…. And before AJ says anything... Yes you told me so!
Welcome back New toys? Do tell...

  8.
Got some hissing from my board and need to buy a noise gate/suppressor. Whats the best in your experience? (for reasonable price!!)
The best thing in my experience is to try and get rid of the hissing by finding the source rather than buying a pedal to cover it up.
  9. A few to vintage ones to look at: Boss DM-2 Boss DM-3 Ibanez AD-9 Ibanez AD-80 Tokai TDL-2 Pearl AD-08 DOD FX90 A few modern alternatives: MXR Carbon Copy EHX Memory Toy EHX Memory Boy EHX Deluxe Memory Boy Tech 21 Boost DLA Way Huge Aqua Puss HBE Mimic There's loads of analogue delays out there, if you want to pay more: Diamond Memory Lane Empress Superdelay Mad Professor Deep Blue Maxon AD-999 Red Witch Titan Retro Sonic Analog delay T-rex Replica I'd personally recommend the (Vintage) Ibanez AD-9, the Way Huge Aqua Puss (a DM-2 clone) or the MXR Carbon Copy.
  10.
If you had it on a seperate effects chain it could be more useful?
I'm not sure. Seems like a lot of hassle to me. I've no idea why they didn't put a dry out on this one
  11.
I watched a video of the freeze the other day. I really want one!
It's a great pedal. Absolutely hopeless (IMO) in a band setting as it sounds quite digital and thin but great for noodling at home.
What's the Philosophers Tone like on bass?
It's great, it's been my go to compressor for a while now. I'm mainly using it as a peak limiter, but it adds a certain sparkle to your sound. It's really quiet and it's got loads of sustain on tap.
  12. This is the set-up I used at a rehearsal this afternoon: I think the Freeze will probably stay at home in the future.
  13. You could try some anti-glare film.
  14.
AFAIK, germanium-transistor-based effects don't like active basses very much. Correct me if I'm wrong.
Not really. Unfortunately it's not that simple. For example, a germanium fuzz face won't always work with active basses but a Tonebender works fine. It's usually to do with input impedance rather than transistor type.
  15. There are people that are interested, but you need to state a price in your ad.
  16. 18v should definitely increase the headroom. It may be the case that the output from your bass is too hot. A higher voltage will definitely combat this.
  17. Welcome to the dark side, Bilbo!
  18.
I'm at the stage of assembly for my OC-2 rehouse/refinish project. Very little has been done in the way of modifying things. Used a DS-1 enclosure, and had to enlarge the power supply hole for the older Boss power supply, as well as drill the LED hole out to make way for the larger LED I'm going to be using. Some new chrome knobs are going on in place of the standard Boss ones. The case has been stripped and now it's gloss white instead. Happy with it.
Pics or it's a DS-1.
  19.
I sold mine here for £150. £500 is mental. Sorry. The way, IMO you'll get the best price is list it in ebay for some Justin Chancellor fan boi to pick it up. Joe.
I agree, Basschat is probably not the best place to sell it. I'm pretty sure you'll get your £500 on ebay!

  21. There's possible deal in the works...
  22. Nobody can argue with supply and demand. It'd be a different story if they were priced at £300 and not selling! They definitely sell, and they sell very well as far as I can see. People shouldn't be bashing David Main, but the people that pay the big money for them. Main's making the most of his market, I'm sure it's not him that determines the resale value of his pedals. I've never played a D*A*M pedal but I can't see people paying that amount for a pedal that doesn't sound good. I'm sure they're great pedals, credit where it's due!
