I agree that the issue is with the EBMM forum where absolutely no criticism of MM guitars, basses, accessories etc is tolerated. The justification is that the company is paying for it and so it is perfectly acceptable not to accept criticism. I don't have a problem with that so just regard the forum as an advertisement for EBMM and never go there.

Upgrading from MM Stingray SUB USA to full MM 2EQ, is it worth it?
Hutton replied to Andytre's topic in Bass Guitars
I've said it before so I might as well say it again. USA SUB was my first MM. I then got two Stingrays on 2eq and one 3eq. I still have the USA SUB which is my only MM. The 2eq and 3eq have gone. USA SUB all the way for me! -
I still had it recorded from when it was on a good while ago. Liked it so much I kept it.

I got the 'Sonic Highways' album yesterday. Eight very nice tracks (if you like the Foos that is).

What is it I don't like about Ernie Ball guitars?
Hutton replied to thisnameistaken's topic in General Discussion
I do think the Subs and Sterlings are laughable efforts, tbh. Cheap and cheerful tho..
I take it that you are referring to the more recent Subs and Sterlings and not the older USA SUB basses. -
What is it I don't like about Ernie Ball guitars?

Now I really must be daft as I have had two 4-stringer Rays and just didn't like em. Both didn't feel right in my hands and both had the weak G string. However, my USA SUB is a different matter. It feels great, sounds great and doesn't have a weak treble. I must be weird. -

If you can stretch to it I would go for one of the newer USA Standard Jazzes (2008 on). Great basses and will always hold their value.
When a 'trans Orangish' colour was mentioned I thought of a Fender colour number '22' which was Sunset Orange Transparent that was used for only a few years around 2003 / 2004 on USA Ash bodied basses. I have only ever seen the colour on one bass, a Precision that I had few a short while.............stunning looking bass as hopefully the attached shows!
Hey David! If this is you then have a big welcome to Basschat. By the way, here is a pic of my son's Sunset Orange Transparent Jazz which he now no longer owns. It started life as a USA Series bass but was converted to fretless by legendary Scottish Luthier Jimmy Moon who shaved the maple fingerboard off and added a gorgeous piece of ebony. The white scratch plate was swapped out for a black one as it matched the fingerboard very nicely.

I don't know if it helps but here is a pic of my son's American Series Jazz Bass and my American Standard Precision. Both are finished in butterscotch blonde.

It doesn't look to be in very good condition. There is also only one pic. Who knows what other issues this bass may have. This may be a fair price.

Wow! That is a marvellous looking bass. Congratulations on having the patience to wait and achieve your dream bass.
I have one of these, bought brand new in 1999 for £350 ish, there were 3 left reduced to clear at the time in fairdeal in brum. They were a short run made in that year only from what little info I've found on them, as chilliwailer said, they are a mix of parts from US and mexico, the whole lot being finished, assembled etc in the USA factory, I changed the pickguard on mine to standard jazz config, as i never liked the all over white one, changed the pots for full size CTS ones, as it had those mini pots fitted as standard, otherwise it's stock, the neck is superb and the body is very resonant. I'd never part with mine, was my first proper good quality bass, and still puts some US standards to shame in terms of fit and finish, the others i've come across have all had good reviews, and seem consistent. snap his hand off, I would.
Do you still have the original pickguard?
Option 5.... Keep them both. Get a better strap for the Yamaha so that the weight thing isn't an issue. Even if you love the precision sound like anything, there will be a day in the next 3-4 years where you hanker after a jazz type tone. Having both isn't a bad thing!
Totally agree with this.

£350? What are you waiting for? Don't worry about neck width/shape. I play precisions and jazzes and move between the two without any difficulty. Don't think about it, just play!

This isn't my bass Marc. I posted up the pics so that we could all see what an 'American Traditional' Jazz of 1990 should look like. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a Jazz like this especially if it is going for a good price. I would, of course, want to see it and play it just to make sure everything was ok. However, as you can see they are pretty tasty looking basses.
Best laugh on here for ages. Didn't read all the posts because i have a life but it did remind my why i don't bother with BC much anymore.
And I'm sure we're all the much worse off for it.

There you go - Fender 1990 'American Traditional' Jazz Bass.

I enter this thread with a bit of nervousness as it seems 'off topic' has visited 'bass guitars'. However, I have a bit of sympathy for karlfer here as he ordered a bass on the basis that it would have a 'Fender' decal on the headstock as per the current offerings from Limelight. It is not for anyone to question why he wants a Fender decal. We all have different opinions and so let's live and let live. I hope that Mark will create karlfer's bass with the Fender decal before going down the route of producing basses with no logos. I would be fed up if I thought I was ordering one thing to get another. Of course if this hadn't been raised as an issue Mark could have been left to his own devices to choose when to omit the decals if at all. I have dealt with Mark in the past and he is a thorough gent. He is also capable of making his own decisions.
Or it might still be here because I don't have any proper scales to weigh it.......
The early 80s basses were certainly lighter than the offerings from the late 70s. My 84 precision is not heavy and sits very nicely on the strap. I'm sure this Jazz will be the same. I just need to find £800!
