The debate is just really going round and round now. We've all made our point. Agreement is never going to happen but it's good to banter back and forth!

I know that it is all down to personal opinion but I just wonder if enough people say enough times that Fenders have quality control issues then it will become a generally accepted fact. For myself, I think that the current range of Fender guitars and basses display excellent quality control. Mind you, I didn't have much problem with the previous offerings either (apart from late 70s) but the current product is first class considering how many are made each day. This, I emphasise, is only my humble opinion.

I still want to know if the P comes with the covers already fitted. From the description in the specs it looks as if they are already screwed on. Mind you, it's all academic as I can't afford one anyway. However, who knows what the future may bring.

The bridge and pickup covers that came with my 62 reissue were unmounted. However, when you read the specs for the 63 reissue it states that the covers are mounted. If this means that the bass comes with the covers already fitted then I think that is a shame as why create the holes for the covers when there are those of us who would rather not have the covers in place.

C'mon folks. This has been a good thread enjoyed by those of us who play bass in church. Please let's keep it on track and stay away from posts which are not constructive to the discussion.

If you want to say that you play bass but are not a Christian then that's fine I suppose but ultimately I would wonder why you would feel pressed to say this. If you are a Christian but don't play Christian music then that 's also fine to say. Not very constructive but fine. All the best.

Even I, a Fender P enthusiast and defender of all things Fender, have to say that bass looks absolutely terrible.

I reckon my old Gretsch G6072 must be up there. Here's the same bass in a slightly different setting courtesy of Lysdexia. Which of the two pictures do you prefer? Now think carefully!

I am biased. I love Fender precisions. If I wanted a brand new precision I would buy a U.S.A. standard P. If it wasn't playable out of the box and the dealer has done nothing I would set it up to the best of my abilities. If I really wanted "playing-like-butter" qualities then I would take it my local guy who does wonders when he sets up a bass. To be honest, when I get any bass it goes to my local guy because I know that no matter how good the bass feels when I get it he will make it better. The current Fender USA standard precision is a cracking instrument. I know many on here don't like Fenders and a thread like this allows them to say so and that's perfectly all right. I just want to say that I would have the USA P before the MIM,MIJ,CIJ, or Squier. I love P basses and I've played all the variants and I prefer the USA offering. Now, I am not well-acquainted with the more expensive vintage basses or the custom shop offerings so would not venture an opinion. There you are, just my offering to the debate. I've been playing in various praise bands for the last 20-odd years. The latest band is the one giving me most pleasure as we do a large mix of music. I have to admit straight away that I'm not a hillsong fan. It just doesn't do it for me. However, we do some hillsong as one or two of the band members like it. We also do traditional gospel (which I love) and anything else that takes our fancy. That is the reason that I like my current band. There is no rivalry in terms of the repertoire. We just discuss our songs and exercise a bit of compromise if we don't get a consensus. We recently did 'People Get Ready' by Curtis Mayfield. I wanted to do it but our singers weren't sure. However, we did it and the singers came to love it. For our band it's about dipping your toe in the water and seeing what happens. I also like the fact that we do songs which may not be construed as 'Christian' but the lyrics are marvellous and when the song is introduced with that in mind the congregation/audience really warm to the songs as nine times out of ten they will know the songs well. Our current line up includes: 3 vocalists, Rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, and drums. I enjoyed this thread when it first appeared and am delighted it has surfaced once again.

If you catch my drift! [/quote] I have had both. Whilst the Lakland was a very nice instrument I have to say that I preferred the Fender. My son now has the Fender and the Lakland has been moved on. The OP (as usual) will get the whole range of opinions here. The only way is to decide your budget, go out and play as many as you can, and make your choice.
