TI JF344 Jazz Flats on everything.
Same here. I just love 'em. Love the tension. Love the sound. Love the longevity. No more to say. Oh, apart from I use Slinkys on my MM Sub. Also, don't worry about repeating an old subject. There's always something new to say which wouldn't get said if all we did was delve into the archives.

I am biased. I love Fender precisions. If I wanted a brand new precision I would buy a U.S.A. standard P. If it wasn't playable out of the box and the dealer has done nothing I would set it up to the best of my abilities. If I really wanted "playing-like-butter" qualities then I would take it my local guy who does wonders when he sets up a bass. To be honest, when I get any bass it goes to my local guy because I know that no matter how good the bass feels when I get it he will make it better. The current Fender USA standard precision is a cracking instrument. I know many on here don't like Fenders and a thread like this allows them to say so and that's perfectly all right. I just want to say that I would have the USA P before the MIM,MIJ,CIJ, or Squier. I love P basses and I've played all the variants and I prefer the USA offering. Now, I am not well-acquainted with the more expensive vintage basses or the custom shop offerings so would not venture an opinion. There you are, just my offering to the debate. All the best in the precsion quest!

I've been playing in various praise bands for the last 20-odd years. The latest band is the one giving me most pleasure as we do a large mix of music. I have to admit straight away that I'm not a hillsong fan. It just doesn't do it for me. However, we do some hillsong as one or two of the band members like it. We also do traditional gospel (which I love) and anything else that takes our fancy. That is the reason that I like my current band. There is no rivalry in terms of the repertoire. We just discuss our songs and exercise a bit of compromise if we don't get a consensus. We recently did 'People Get Ready' by Curtis Mayfield. I wanted to do it but our singers weren't sure. However, we did it and the singers came to love it. For our band it's about dipping your toe in the water and seeing what happens. I also like the fact that we do songs which may not be construed as 'Christian' but the lyrics are marvellous and when the song is introduced with that in mind the congregation/audience really warm to the songs as nine times out of ten they will know the songs well. Our current line up includes: 3 vocalists, Rhythm guitar, lead guitar, bass guitar, keyboards, and drums. I enjoyed this thread when it first appeared and am delighted it has surfaced once again.
Ahem, at the risk of being a bit controversial I still maintain that the best Fender jazz basses I have owned or played have been Laklands. If you catch my drift!
I have had both. Whilst the Lakland was a very nice instrument I have to say that I preferred the Fender. My son now has the Fender and the Lakland has been moved on. The OP (as usual) will get the whole range of opinions here. The only way is to decide your budget, go out and play as many as you can, and make your choice.

Hutton replied to a topic in Basses For Sale
I already bought a cube hanzz earlier in the year, but im probably going to sell the frame in the next few weeks and get something more downhill spec like a lapierre dh 920 or transition tr 450 or a 2011/12 demo 8.
Nice. The lapierre is a great choice. If you had been looking for a touring bike I have a Surly Long Haul Trucker that I may be going to be move on. -

My problem with your post, apart from what karlfer has said, is that you posted the bass as being original. Depsite you showing a picture of a bass for sale at 'Normans' I still do not think your pickguard is original. If you look through other 1983 precisions for sale at normans you will see the screwhole to which I refer being present. You will also see basses which have had non-original parts added. The bass you have chosen to lillustrate does not claim to be original. My purpose therefore in posting was to point this out to potential buyers as non-originality affects value. You are perfectly entitled to decide what your bass is worth. I do not have a problem with that and wish you well in selling your precision. Karlfer is correct when he refers to the gentlemanly nature of selling on Basschat. There is a 'spirit' in the way things are done here. Unfortunately, you seem determined not to enter into that spirit by profiteering from a sale of a bass. Commonly, on basschat if a person buys a bass and doesn't get on with the instrument he/she sells it on for the same price. Due to the way you are conducting your sale it is unlikely that you will be successfull. However, you may be successfull, and if you are, good luck to you.
1983 P basses are rather clunkily made,
Not sure what you mean here. If you mean that they are well put together and that quality was once again being sought after in the Fullerton factory, and also that these basses play superbly well due to the construction of the bass, then I agree that they are 'clunkily' made. If you mean something else then I'm at a loss to understand. I may not be an expert in Fender basses of this era but if my two are anything to go by then I'm very happy indeed to possess two clunky basses.

At the risk of repeating myself, and with great respect, the pickguard is not original. Gareth kindly has confirmed this. As you will appreciate it doesn't "look the same" as it is missing a screwhole. Also, "fitting perfectly" unfortunately does not guarantee originality. Perhaps you will have more luck with a sale if you amend your asking price to get back what you paid for the bass a couple of weeks ago. Good luck!

The colour is ivory. I have the exact same bass. BTW, are you sure that the pickguard is original. If I'm correct there should be a screw just below the 'g' string about mid-way between the screw at the neckpocket and the pickup. I may of course be wrong and am happy to be corrected. Good luck with the sale.

Stingray 2EQ vs 3EQ - why the big price difference?
Hutton replied to BassYerbouti's topic in Bass Guitars
This. If you try and like the 2EQ, buy it and save yourself a few £. If one day you feel you could do with a more mid-heavy sound, I'd do one of these: 1) carefully rewire the pickup with the coils in series rather than in parallel. It's a mighty sound. I personally prefer this for the 2EQ. 2) get a John East 3-band, which gives you essentially a 2EQ plus a midsweep module... Then you really have a lot of control over the mids. I have a 2003 MM SUB 2EQ (option 1 above) and a 2002 MM Stingray 2EQ with a John East preamp. The SUB is my favourite of the two. Which brings me to... the old USA MM SUB basses... They were only made between 2003-2006, and they may not be the prettiest... but they're amazing basses for little money (£3-400). My SUB is my #1 bass, that's all I'll say.
Agree entirely with this. I've had a couple of 2EQ Rays and a 2004 USA SUB. The SUB is with me for good. The other Rays have long since gone. The only Ray that would interest me now is a pre-eb but they're just too expensive! -

What is it with these prima donnas. I can't stand band members that don't pull their weight. Just because they are up front singing their wee hearts out doesn't give them any right to ignore the work. It's not until you become Tony Bennet that you can stroll on, sing, and stroll off. Who does this singer think he is. You're better off leaving this band and finding a proper bunch of musos who appreciate each other. All the best!

do you ever air bass when you hear a track..

I am a devotee of air bass. In fact, I think I'm more proficient on air bass than on real bass! -
