1.
I've had a couple of 70s Fenders that have been rubbish. My MIM 50s RI Precision batters them all on all counts, and at a fraction of the cost.
Well there you are. You see the problem is that we all come to this from our different experiences. I played a MIM 50s RI Precision and thought that it played horrible and sounded not a patch on my other precisions.
2. The bass is described as all-original with its original tweed case. If it is in first-class condition then £1500 is not unreasonable IMO.. These early 80s basses are very good instruments. I would certainly pay £1500 for this before I spent the same amount on a late 70s precision.
3. I know that this is a rare bass but you must comply with the rules for this forum which state that you must name a price for the instrument. This is not an auction site like ebay. Good luck with the sale and welcome to the forum.
4. Love em. Always have. Always will.
5. Welcome to the forum bobglaub01. You'll probably have gathered by now that photographs of your bass are eseential for a sale. This is all the more important as you are new to the forum and haven't yet built up the necessary confidence for people to buy from you. Your bass is also worth a lot of money which means people want to have a look before they buy. Also, as this is predeminantly a UK based forum it is unlikely that a buyer will travel to Holland to see the bass in person. You must also appreciate that there have been situations where people have tried to sell non-existent basses on here. These people are usually new to the forum. For all these reasons it is hugely unlikely that you will sell your bass here without posting up pictures and giving as much information as possible about the instrument. There are real experts on this forum who can spot problems with basses, and so to build confidence it is best to be entirely honest about the bass you are selling. Having said all that, and assuming that this is a genuine attempt to sell what I am sure is a marvellous bass, all the best with the sale.
6. Here's pics of my 83 (bottom pic) and 84 (top pic)headstocks. Confusion has arisen as 83 was a transition period with parts being used up. However, 83-85 Standrad Jazzes and Precisions didn't have bullet truss rods adjusters. This was the time when the bi-flex truss rod was introduced hence the change in adjusters.
7.
AV allright, but standard 1983 P basses had bullets on the headstock.
No bullets on my 83 or 84 Precision. I'm afraid your information is wrong my friend.
8. I've got both on p basses. I don't notice the difference. All three of my p basses are a bit different from each other. The two rosewood boards are different from each other. I don't think it makes a difference to be honest.
9. Can I ask why you are using a courier that discriminates against parts of the UK?
10. I don't believe one of my heroes is on basschat. What a nice guy he is as well as a great player.
11. Collection only could be your problem. You very much limit potential purchasers by insisting on home collection. It's not difficult to post a bass.
12. Fender USA really produced some nice insruments during the early 80s. Quality had definitely returned. I have two precisions from this era and they are superb. All the best with the sale of a very nice Jazz.
13. This bass is a thing of beauty. I hope that there's not going to be any regrets in a few years time like when you wake up in a cold sweat screaming: "Why did I sell my RD" Seriously, I wish you all the best in selling this gorgeous bass. I just wish I was in funds.
14. Sold a rather nice Rickenbaker 4001 to Rob (Fazziebear). Rob doesn't have many posts on here but the transaction was pleasant, friendly and just the way it should be. Basschatters can have complete confidence in all dealings with Rob.
15. My, Oh, My. That is beautiful!
16. This bass is now sold.
17.
Sorry for the diversion. In all honesty the date (and location) of manufacture of a particular bass is neither here nor there. If it feels and sounds good to you, then it IS good and if you like it enough then you should buy it. It doesn't matter one jot what "round the campfire" talk exists about certain periods of production. I highly doubt that anyone here has sufficient overview of the entire output of Fender from a certain era and location in order to make overall judgements applicable to the entirety of it.
This is one of the best things I've read in a long time. This just doesn't apply to fender basses but to the whole lot of them!
18. Bump, bump, bumpity, bump.
19. Can someone shed a bit of light on this? http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Fender-Precision-Bass-Guitar-in-Good-Working-Order-with-new-strings-/170910638915?pt=UK_Musical_Instruments_Guitars_CV&hash=item27cb116343
20. Whatever else we may be thinking he has sold it for £207. Not bad eh?
