I was massively impressed and am looking forward to Friday's show.

It's all a bit pointless as it must always be down to personal preference. For what it's worth, and in my humble opinion, I would opt for Fender.

I have just had a very pleasant transaction with blitz (Dermot). It's nice to make friends as well as doing a bit of business. It was also nice to be trusted by Dermot to accept that my description of the bass I was selling was accurate. When posting abroad I can understand if some folks may be wary. However, if it is Dermot you are dealing with have no concerns. A thoroughly good guy, a great asset to basschat, and if I'm ever in Brussels I'll know who to go out with for a pint!

Nick has just sold me a rather splendid fretless precision. There were problems with the courier which Nick spent a lot of time sorting out. This man is a thorough gent whom I have no hesitation in recommending to anyone who wishes to do business with him.

What is the difference between 'export' and 'non-export' CIJ Fenders. I only ask as I am about to receive a personally imported Fretless Precision 62 RI.

Thanks for the advice I'll give it a go.
Sorry to get all soggy and hard to light, but as a fully-converted Precision fan-boy I really do struggle with some of the stuff being put forward. I have a particular problem with Hodgkinson's solo blues. He's a superb player, completely out of sight of anywhere I'll ever reach, and I have nothing but respect for the man. But the fact that someone as gifted as him is capable of playing a Precision bass like an acoustic guitar does not make it a good idea. To my ears, the tone he gets in those clips (or, more accurately, the noise) is utterly dire. As a 2-minute novelty item on YouTube it's quite amusing. But if I'd paid to go to a gig and found myself confronted by an evening of that, I'd be gone within ten minutes.
Couldn't have put it better myself. I didn't even get to the end of the clips.
You found 'vistuosity' on Wiki? No wonder people think it's unreliable.
I really should be banned from Basschat for commiting the hideous crime of typing too fast, not checking my spelling, and then having the audacity to post up. Can there be a worse crime?
Although I'm unsure what 'vistuosity' is.
I think it means 'awfy good'.
Sounds like the solo on Voices Inside/everything is everything from the album Donny Hathaway Live. Great solo.
That's the one. Thanks RR.

I suppose it is a bit comforting to know that others have had the same problems. The annoying thing in my case is that Yodel wouldn't or couldn't tell me either the phone number or location of their Inverness depot so that I could make enquiries locally. Unfortunately this is not an isolated example of the gross inefficiencies crippling British industry.

My nomination for a master on the good ol' P bass would be Willie Weeks. I heard him soloing on a Donny Hathaway album ( somebody here may be able to produce details) and was absolutely blown away. This was virtuosity at its finest! Every time I hear Willie playing with whoever it is I'm always hugely impressed. Another nomination would have to be Pino Palladino. His vistuosity is not in doubt.

I am currently having a hassle with Yodel over their non-delivery of a bass to me. The seller is doing all he can to sort this out. Yodel are hopeless. They don't seem to care a jot when complaints are made. This is not the first time they have let me down badly. They have also let others down. To see my post of woe go to the link below. It is currently the last post:- http://basschat.co.u...60#entry1659485

Let me add to Yodel woes. They were meant to deliver an expensive lens to me. However, not only did they deliver to the wrong house but after finding no-one in (surprise, surprise) they dumped it over the garden wall and left it lying in the rain. When I complained they couldn't have cared less. Fast forward to yesterday - it's now the second full day that I have waited in for Yodel to deliver a bass. At 4pm I go to tracking to find the message that "the consignee could not be contacted". They have my phone number, they have my address, what more do they need? Bearing in mind this delivery had already been postponed as they couldn't pick up the parcel when they said they would. The seller is trying his best to get things sorted out as Yodel won't deal with me as the contract is with the seller. After reading the above story I'm now starting to get a bit nervous. I can only await word from the seller as to what is happening. So, Yodel's inefficiency and methods are not confned to one part of the country. I know some folk on here don't like parcelforce. I, however have to honestly say that I have used them many, many times and have not ever had any problems. In one case they even delivered a bass the next day depsite it being a 48 hour service. I just want to finish by saying: DON'T USE YODEL!!!!!

Many thanks to Ben and everyone else who worked into the wee sma' hours to sort this out. It's just as well as I was getting withdrawal symptoms. My hands were beginning to shake, breaking out in cold seats. I'm now back on an even keel. The world makes sense once more!

I'm trying to find out a ballpark figure for shipping a bass to Belgium. If anyone has experience of this could you let me know how much it cost. Thanks in advance!

Fair enough Karl. It's just that I have been hit by couriers for living where I do which is not in the Scottish Highlands and Islands but one hour away from one of the UK's busiest cities in the commercial sense. When I use parcelforce I am charged just over £20 to send a bass. I know feelings can run high regarding parcelforce but I have to say they haven't let me down - yet!

This is very sad news indeed. He was a legend in his own lifetime.
