They changed to 'pleking' fairly recently. My DJ4 has Lakland pickups and I love em'! I think the only way to get an authentic DJ sound is to get Daryll to come and play your bass.

I was in 'Vintage & Rare' in Denmark St at the weekend. I was admiring a 1964 Lake Placid Blue precision and wondering if the credit card would stretch enough for me to make a purchase. I asked the price. The nice young lady said £8950. I said "oh right". As I beat a hasty retreat from the shop I spotted a 1965 Sonic Blue precision. I was gorgeous. I didn't even bother to ask what they were wanting for it. Apart from not having the money, I don't think that I would pay such an amount for a bass. It got me to wondering however, how many basschatters would shell out thousands for a pre CBS precision or jazz?
If you want to sell your bass in the north east of Scotland don't say Trump. It's a baaaaaaaaaaaaaaad word.
I should perhaps explain that Donald Trump is trying to buy a huge, very beautiful part of the North East of Scotland to create a golf course/hotel type empire. Locals will be evicted that don't want to be evicted and only those with pots of cash will be able to enjoy this part of the country. Needless to say it ain't going down too well. Anyway, back to selling this superb looking (and I'm sure superb playing) Jazz deluxe. Why it's not away already is a mystery!! -
Welcome to the forum from a Paisley buddie!
The first DJ I tried was strange - build was fine, setup was fine, electrics were fine, played like a complete dog. The second was a superb J-bass. Try before you buy.
Just in case you were thinking of going down the DJ4/5 route you should probably know that Lakland don't do the Daryll Jones Jazz anymore. BTW Jack I believe that my DJ4 used to belong to you. I hope that it was your second one!

Looking for a place in glasgow that will do a pro setup

Yep, I can thoroughly endorse the recommendation to contact 7String. Mark has just set up my Lakland DJ4 the way I want it and now it plays like butter. He's also a thoroughly nice chap which always makes life more pleasant. Mark's wife Jen also makes great tea! -

I had the same problem with intonation recently. My tuner was telling me everything was ok but the intonation was definitely out. I tried another tuner with the same result. It was solved by a visit to '7String' (now known as the doyen of setups) who worked his magic along with a Petersen strobe tuner, everything was resolved and the world made sense once more.

When I was over at Mark's (7string) yesterday he told me about seeing your bass at the bash and how great it looked. I just had to look at this thread for myself and see what a fantastic job you have done. Congratulations on a very fine looking bass.

That Lakland in Guitar and Bass this month....
Shoot me down but there's some very 'right on' answers here and I don't think that the OP is saying he wants to perpetuate third world poverty I suspect the answer to his question lies in the apparent fact that the bass is partly US assembled, pushing up the costs considerably
+1 I also believe that all Laklands, including the Skylines, now go through the 'Plek' process in the States. -

I've just bought my first Lakland (Skyline DJ4) from Linus27. I have to say that it is a great bass. The price was fair and the bass was immaculate. It very easily compares to MIA Jazz basses. Would I pay the full price for one? Yes, I think I probably would such is the quality of these instruments. I now don't give a toss where a bass is built as I look at the bass itself to determine if it is a quality instrument or not. -
I can perfectly understand why you are frustrated. Like a few comments here it seems to me that this was a badly organised gig. I have organised charity gigs where three bands played two sets each. It sounds as if the organisation for your gig wasn't up to much. Plus, was it a short night? Two bands with one only playing 4 songs doesn't sound like a very good night! I wouldn't haul my gear and my ass out for less then half an hour. I also note that you're down in Port Glasgow. If I'm organising anything in future I'll give you a shout - that is as long as you're not a Morton supporter!
He's just giving people what they want. Plus you really can't argue with all the new stuff they brought out this year. Plus, these are lmited run.
It's ok to be an EBMM fan. Some of us however just don't buy the mountains of sycophancy on the EBMM forum. Sterling Ball is mortal, it's about time all you guys over on that forum realised it.

Slab body. 2 eq. Stingray electrics. Ok the SUB may not be as pretty in some folks estimation and it doesn't have mutes or strings though the body but is the new retro Stingray that different? I also agree that Sterling Ball is a huge hypocrite in going retro and also for the new line of basses built outside the USA. I recall him criticising others for going abroad and that solely building in the states was something that EBMM prided themselves on. Maybe the funny shaped basses with all the knobs aren't selling too well!

Fender Custom Shop 'Pino Palladino' Precision for me please!
I agree with everyone that SUBs are great (I totally loved mine) but to be honest SUBs and 'rays don't sound the same. Granted it is close but the fact the the pups are wired differently is a big factor. Stingray pups are wired in parallel while Sterlings and SUBs are series. The one on the left is from my 'ray the other from a my S.U.B.
I agree that SUBs and Rays don't sound exactly the same. That's why I sold my Ray and kept my SUB!
What ever you do don't make them 'cross'.
I love my SUB. It will stay with me for as long as I am able to play. Great bass. Don't hesitate to go for one.

After having looked at the website I'm even more worried about them. But there again I'm just an old-fashioned liberal who would throw a fit if I had to wave my hands in the air whilst singing God pop.

Hopefully Lysdexia (Andra) will add his genius to this thread!

I've had my Boss TU2 for years. It has never let me down (touch wood). I don't use it as a pedal as it sits on top of my cab and goes direct into my amp.
