Good post elom! Were the Performers exclusively made in Japan?
-
I am a precision guy and reckon that the S1 was a waste of time on the p bass. However, my son plays a Jazz with the S1 fitted and used it all the time. He can't understand why Fender have left it out.
I've been quite lax about it to be honest but i'm now getting bored of it. If you disagree with price someone has put their item up for, then PM them saying why you believe it is too high. Something is of course only worth what someone is willing to pay, what YOU are willing to pay may be different to someone else. If they choose to take your advice then great - if not then it isn't your problem. If you believe the seller is purposely being dishonest about the item then please PM a moderator who will look into it. The vigilante style self-moderation that is becoming commonplace is a nice theory, but can leads to this kind of situation. It doesn't benefit the forum and doesn't give a favourable impression of the people who are discrediting the item. I will from now on begin to delete any posts where I believe a member is discrediting the seller for the only reason that they disagree with the price of the item.
Well said machines!
Stick some foam under the string at the bridge, gives you the muted thump without requiring any technical stuf with the fingers (the old Precisions would have had foam string mutes under the bridge cover). Means you can play the same lines faster also. Check out his concert from '68 with the TCB (Taking Care of Business) band. It was the bass playing on this as much as anything that convinced me that the bass was the instrument to play. In 'Suspicious Minds' - which sets off at a pretty frantic pace anyway - the bassist just goes off on one in an almost Entwhistle-esque style, whilst stil holding down a great groove. I think Elvis realised something special was happening 'cos at about the same point in the song he just stops singing and throws a few shapes (either that or a cheeseburger was repeating on him). Either way, pure rock 'n' roll. Chris PS if your band aren't doing Suspicious Minds, ask them too. Play it a little up tempo and it's a bass player's dream
Yep. Jerry Scheff is the man.

I agree with Beedster that Mighty Mite necks are excellent. I put a strat together using a mighty mite neck and body. The quality was superb and my guitar-playing son has been very pleased with the result. I got both neck and body from ebay.

Here's my Fullerton 1983 Precision. The colour is a bit lighter than the photo, it's more like ivory. The bass is all original and unmarked - a nice find. This is a great bass coming at the time when Fender were getting their act in order regarding quality control. I suspect that these basses may be the next to rise in price as desirable instruments.

Here's mine. MB all the way! LMK2 Head with 4X10 4ohm ported cab.
BIGd, I am like you regarding sound. I use a LMK2 and leave the eq settings at 12 O' Clock. Any "tweaking" can be done with the 2 filters. MB Amps are very clean and let the sound of the Bass come through. I am currently using it with a 1x15 neo and had a chance of listening to someone else using the rig, (and Bass), from the audience at a recent gig. Sounded great. Am about to move to an even more lightweight Cab solution.
+1 BassBunny. I use an LMK2 and like yourself have all the eq at 12 O'clock. I then adjust with the filters. To get old school I usually turn the VLE filter pretty much up full. I also use the MB 4X10 ported cab rated at 4ohms. The headroom is immense. I don't know if I'll ever need to put the volume over 50%. I love the Markbass cab. Extremely light for a 4X10 but can deliver the goods big time.
I called it I Love Jazz because I DO and I know what I mean and don't need to define it because I KNOW what I mean and rock isn't jazz and, although I like some rock, didn't think it needed advocating for because there are zillions of rockers already doing so but there aren't many people advocating for jazz so I thought I would because I love it. OK?
You couldn't be more plain bilbo. I understand your post completely.
Is she a Berkleeite? where was she found?
I did hear somewhere that she went to Berklee.

Tal is indeed a superb young player. I wonder if she has a big ego?
-
If you want to see Tal on DVD then pick yourself up the Crossroads 2007 DVD. She plays on it with Jeff Beck. A great young player. I just hope it's not too much too soon.

As Hamster says with a bit of clean it looks and feels like a whole new amp. If the price was right then you have got a good amp presuming everything works ok. I always check a buyers/sellers feedback history and habits as it is massively annoying when someone doesn't leave you feedback when you have kept your side of the bargain. If an ebayer is in the habit of not leaving feedback then it makes me think twice about doing business. All the best with the amp.

Welcome to the forum James. A fellow countryman is always welcome. Checked out your band on MySpace and liked what I heard. All the best for the forthcoming album. Nice gear BTW.

Looking at your collection has just brightened up my day no end. Thanks Chris.

Interesting Chris! Although I'm a huge Elvis fan I couldn't see me impersonating him. If I could ever impersonate Jerry Scheff I would be well pleased. Obviously it would be from his Precision days! -
+1 How many of us would be happy if that's the best sound we could get? You'd throw your gear on a skip. But the playing is outstanding and most importantly the bass line itself is wonderful.
Once again for the benefit of those not quite getting the point here. It's your opinion. No more, no less. Everybody is entitled to their point of view. I will defend the right to express personal opinion to my dying day. However, why should the sound you like be the sound I like?
sorry guys, I think it sounds terrible!
No need to be sorry. It's your opinion therefore it's relevant.

Nice one Homer. From your profile I see that you can give me a couple of years. BTW, do you think there is any significance in the fact that we both are using precisions. Old guy + Precision - an inevitable path! -
Sounds really dead and woolly, doesn't it? But he's got a definite feel there. You can also hear the James Jamerson influences too. Talking of which, there are also Jamerson solo tracks on that site too. Check out What's Goin' On. Again, terrible sound but what a bassline.
What you describe as 'terrible sound' is pure bliss to the ears of others. Thank goodness there are all sorts of basses/strings etc to enable a wide palette of sounds.

I have two Pete Cornish cables. Expensive but worth it. I have had them for years and they still look and work exactly the same as the day I got them.
