1. I did have a subscription to BGM. It was a couple of months after my subscription ran out that I realised I wasn't getting it anymore. Obviously, they don't send out reminders or mine got lost in transit. Anyway, I took out a subscription to Bass Player and am happy with it. They also send timeous reminders.
2. Peavey is good honest gear. However, once you have used more expensive rigs it is difficult to be excited about the Peavey stuff.
3. Maybe your buyer wants to know these things to determine value. The current basswood instruments are cheaper than the alder ones. Just a suggestion as to why he may want to know.
4. You're right Homer. My Scout is actually my second one. The first had problems with the amp which were never satisfactorily resolved. The whole combo was replaced by the distributor with the newer version which has been fine. The moral of the tale then is that if you are buying second hand make sure that it is the newer version or that there have been no issues with the amp if it is the older version.
5. Just a wee cautionary note. I notice from the original post that portability on the tube was a requirement. I have a Walkabout Scout 112 and certainly would not regard it as being in any way suitable to cart around the tube. Great combo though and one I would thoroughly recommend.

Stingray GAS!

I also like the finish of the bass which is Natural Velvet. It is a satin finish as opposed to gloss. It was only available for a few years in the mid-nineties and so there aren't a great deal of them about.

Stingray GAS!

Ok. Just for the record.
8. Many thanks for that link Ken.
9. The screw hole on the back of the head is for a strap button. These were fitted on early J & P basses so that a more upright playing position could be adopted for those making the change from double basses to electric. Which leads me to ask; is your Jazz a reissue? Everything about your bass suggests that it's not a reissue unless it's been extensively modernised and why would somebody do that. I would follow the advice that you have already been given and make it into a nice playable bass. Good luck!
10.
LOL...still don't like it though
Even if you don't like Motown which is of course your right, I am sure that you would appreciate the bass playing of James Jamerson and Bob Babbitt. They are well worth a listen if you can blot out the rest of the song!
11. New site is improving all the time. All the best for the surgery man.
12. I know it's been mentioned many times before but 'Good Times' by Chic always does it for me. Bernard Edwards at his finest!
13. Welcome Andy from the home of the Paisley Pattern. Where would James Burton have been without it!
14. The youtube clip is part of a DVD entitled 'Marvin Gaye. The RealThing. In Performance 1964-1981' The DVD is a must for all Motown and Marvin fans and of course those who want to hear a good dose of Jamerson.
15. I don't know about England and Wales but in Scotland a teacher of any instrument has to have had formal education in music, often a University degree, and achieved necessary qualifications in their particular instrument and in teaching practice. I know this as my younger son is currently trying to get a job as a teacher of guitar.
16. I've used them twice with no problems. Good prices and quick delivery assuming items are in stock.
17.
I haven't seen Marvin's What's Goin On yet... I must have missed it.
Hamster posted it back on page 1. It's a great line. I would have chosen it if it hadn't already been posted.
18. In addition to the above I would add 'Melting Pot' Booker T & the MGs. 'Stir it up' Bob Marley is also an all time favourite. Oh, I nearly forgot 'I'll take you there' The Staple Singers.
19.
I couldn't possibly comment. I am pretty certain that you weren't meant to be a member of my forum however.....
Sorry. I didn't know it was your forum. As whatever I say obviously offends you I will quietly leave.
20.
By, "didn't grasp" do you mean too unintelligent? Because that's how it comes across. My reading of those incidents was that you have a very thin skin and managed to find offense where absolutely none was intended. You weren't burnt, you deliberately stuck your hand in a furnace and then complained about the warmth. I wouldn't have mentioned it if you hadn't resurrected the subject.
I most definitely did not mean that anyone was unintelligent. I also have a very thick skin if you only but knew it. However, it was certainly not my intention to resurrect anything. My post was really trying to be helpful in saying what I had learnt from the past and trying to be more open-minded. Maybe, I'm just not meant to be a member of this forum. Sorry everyone.
21. On the old BW forums I got well and truly burnt a couple of times for posting that I had been offended by some stuff. The mods also weighed in and so I accepted that if I was going to participate and gain the benefits of the forum then I had to accept things as they were. I now feel that we just have to accept each other and the way we put things in our posts. If anything got drastically out of hand then obviously a mod would intervene. What I found however is that many people didn't grasp why something would be offensive to an individual. Therefore, it would be too tedious to constantly be wondering what causes offense. So why don't we just see how we all get on and if anything gets too extreme then it will be obvious to all concerned. Just a few rambling thoughts from a former burnee.
22.
At a push you could just get a Mesa Walkabout scout (2nd hand) ..... I cannot recomend mine enough....... it will do what you want and then some!
+1
23. Jimmy Moon the legendary Scottish luthier goes all different shades when WD40 is suggested as a cleaning agent on guitars and basses. Jimmy knows!
24.
How do you like the markbass cab?
The cab is first class. Great sound for me anyway. My cab is the 4ohm version enabling me to squeeze out as many of the 500watts from the LMII as I may need. It's also nice and light. So to have one cab and a pocket-sized amp and get 500watts is ok in my book.
25. Many congratulations. Your patience has paid off in a big way. That is a truly magnificent example of a pre-CBS Jazz. May you have all health to enjoy it for many years to come.
