Apparently so, there aren't that many epics knocking around so I suppose that makes it rare(ish)!
Things very slow & I have something else coming in so I've shaved £150 off the asking price taking it to £999. -
Okey doke.. more info, apparently they were a run of 60 commissioned by the Guitar Centre USA to celebrate their anniversary, the differences over the standard model are: Flamed maple top, engraved brass plate truss rod cover, oval inlays, walnut & purple heart striping (whatever that means)!
Sunday PM bump. -

Hi all,
I've seen something that I have lusted after since the dawn of time & would sell my grannie to own, but for the sake of a quiet life I thought I'd better try & sell my ray first! Its a 5 string 3 eq in cherry burst with 34" scale & a maple board. Condition wise its probably a good 9/10, neck & fret work are excellent & it has been recently set up by the Gallery, the body has a couple of small dings (pictured) but is otherwise in good order with no sign of abuse, electronics are fine, this bass has no issues whatsoever. Price.... I'm taking a hit on this for a v quick sale so I don't miss the bass I'm after, I'm floating it at £650 or a "sensible" offer, I can ship & if your ever in the Midlands you are welcome to come & try it out.
Cheers for looking Chris
PS Sorry but no trades on this one please. -
I posted on the Alembic owners forum for you - might be someone there who knows a little more for you
Cheers Barry, I'll go have a look & see what I can find. -
Do you know why this is a 'special' (other than being very nice indeed, lol).
Fraid not, I have very little info on it other than it has a funky little brass plate telling me it is number 38 from 60, there also a 5 string special ed up at the mo (not mine), they are fantastic basses, real top draw stuff, its just I've found something else that I really like playing, ironically it is cheaper than one of these! -
Wasn't that from the bass gallery?? You must be taking a massive hit on the price??
Quick everyone, take advantage of his madness!!
Behave! nope, this isn't the one from the gallery, that was a walnut topped standard model, & I am taking a bit of a hit on this but something has caught my eye! not thinking of opening your famously clam like wallet are you?! -
Yes thanks, thats the one. Looksa bit more like the real colour in those photos.
Cheers,
Bob
Used to be mine at one time, it is a fantastic bass & cost me a fair bit more than this, well worth a punt! -
Been there, mate! Good luck with the sale, should fly out the door, something that pretty!
Now definitely up for sale & with a reduced price tag. -
sorry, i need cash for another shuker, its pretty though, good luck
Go on Rich, don't be a tight wad, you've played it & you know its worth every penny & more! -
bump for pics, need to make a phonecall as this may already have gone, ill keep you all posted
It is a wonderful bass, looks & feels great with a gorgeous sound (alas it was way beyond my humble technique!), it's in great condition & someone could grab themselves a very serious bargain here! -
oh lordy, what a pretty bass
Yep, its a lovely bass, a great bit of wood & sounds fantastic, just fancy a change! no sign of my 5 yet Jack, I assume he's doing a mighty fine job the amount of time it is taking!

Hi all,
here we have my Alembic Epic 4, now sold. -
Sandberg PM5. Bookmatched bubinga top with matching headstock. Block inlays and black hardware. Delano pups and I believe a Glock pre amp. It also has a passive option.
This is a great bass and is unmarked. Very versatile. Does a reasonable stingray impression (maybe a bit less scooped) and its not too shabby as a P bass either - although I've not used the P pup as much as I thought I would. Only downside is its not the lightest bass I've ever had. I will sort out pics asap but in the meantime there is a pic in a previous thread:

There are also some sound clips at DWband.co.uk. Not the best as its DI (from a GK head post eq) taken from the desk. Also the mid and top are boosted quite a bit to cut through the wall of guitar, keys and brass in that band - still it will give you an idea.
I have an incoming classic SR5 so I'm looking to trade this for something that gives me a different option sound wise - probably looking at a J bass derivative but not completely married to that. Just thought I would gauge interest and see what's out there.
Tried some Laklands that I really liked so that would be a good starting point - 55-02, JO5 or a DJ5.
Only looking at trades and only intersted in 5 strings.
Either collection from the north east or I may be in the Leeds, Nottingham and Telford areas over the next couple of weeks. NB: I have a mate who might be interested in buying it so I might withdraw it if he makes his mind up
Thanks
John
Lovely basses & Johns a good bloke to deal with, someone will be very happy with this one! -
Thanks Steve, good to meet you too!
Wirralisation in progress.
Just traded a Joe Osborn for a stingray 5, pleasure doing business! cheers Steve. -
Was that the one you had off me? Beautiful basses and TBH I think this one looks nicer.
That's the & it was an excellent bass, I agree that this one looks nicer though, lovely grain & a slightly different shape, a real work of art, I'm guessing at his price it will probably be long gone before I can raise any cash though. -
thankyou for the kind words i just wish more people new how nice they are,
its a hell of a bass for this money!!, cheers
Bump for a fine bass at a fine price, I still miss mine & admit to being a real plank for parting with it! -
bump!
I picked one of these up recently in a trade, its really good and is well worth a punt, especially at this price, bargain! -
One of the best fives I've played ever!
You up for trades? What you after this week?
You know me Rich, I'm broadminded but not your left handed Kramer! Stingray's are nice tho...... -
Nice looker
Cheers, it is & the pics don't really do it justice, it has a really nice grain & a slightly darker tint than a lot of naturals, really well finished as well.
Looks superb! I was after one of these a couple of years ago and they still totally look the business.
It is a lovely bass, very big sound & the build on these really is excellent, I'm just hankering after a Ray or something a little different. -
Morning all,
Here we have a Lakland Skyline Joe Osborn 5 string which I bought from new a couple of weeks ago but after extended playing I've decided it isn't really what I'm looking for, doh!
Now Gone.
