Nice er, knobs...

Hi all, as per attached image, after replacing stock active electronics with passive p/u's in my Ibanez, I have a surplus 7mm hole.

Any suggestions on how to neatly cover it up (excluding sticking in another pot or switch)?

7string, what type/grade paper(?) do you use to "satinise" the neck?

I like Franc O'Shea's articles: they are well written and he seems to be developing quite an interesting unified theory of scales/modes/chords. I hope he writes a book out of it.

I have the feeling that through-body seems to communicate a little more energy from the strings into the body of the bass: one can sense the body vibrating a little more. Consequently, there may well be reduction in sustain in this mode as by definition sustain will reduce if relatively more energy is transferred away from the moving string.

However, I think these are quite subtle effects, and as I've just sold my only string-through bass I can't verify it either way.

Certainly if the retailer shows the product explicitly as "In Stock" and it isn't then I'd say that is definitely misrepresentation and should not be legal. However, proving a case against them could be a problem.

I have quite a powerful amp and the fan was a little obtrusive for home practice. As it was rack mountable, I fitted it in one of these:

I think the previous posters were using LCM as an abbreviation for Leeds College of Music rather than London College of Music (which is now part of Middx Uni IIRC)

You could go to a "proper" university taking a more general degree, i.e. not one of those "specialist" music schools, while also taking private lessons from one of the independent bass teachers who are listed on here at: [url="http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showforum=26"]http://basschat.co.uk/index.php?showforum=26[/url]

The benefits of this are: 1) you'd probably get a broader education and a more widely respected degree and 2) you could learn bass at your own pace (which could be much faster than what would happen at college).

The drawbacks are you could have a high workload and would have to manage the financial costs of course.

If you turn over basses regularly in theory you could be described as a trader. That would have a lot of implications for insurance and even for council tax.

It's now time to pass on this lovely instrument to a new owner as I've changed to an Ibanez. I originally bought it here from ChampionBadger, and these are his photos below. It's a very well built bass, with a very flexible range of tones. I've got Overwater nickel medium weight extended scale strings on it, which I think match it well. It has the orginal Bart/NTLMB pup's and electronics. No case, but will include spare strings, strap, and wiring diagrams.

One of the more interesting hypothetical situations is where in a band getting established say two members declare all band-related income and expenditure and two declare nothing. If the numbers are pretty small, the IR probably aren't going to be interested but if it became profitable then I'm sure they would be, and could possibly use the evidence of the former against the latter.

Also if anyone is claiming DSS benefits then income definitely has to be declared.

Well the thing I'd pick up on is perhaps you need to spend time jamming with the drummer, not [just] the guitarist. You two are the rhythm section. If the rhythm section is wonky the whole ensemble will fall apart: whereas if it's tight then the soloists can drift in and out without problem.

Hi, try the attached: as uploads of Finale .mus files are not allowed, I've renamed it to have an extension of .pdf - just rename it back to .mus. This was created with FinWin 2009.

Gotta bear in mind that some powerful bass amps have cooling fans which can be heard in really quiet surroundings. In a typical gig it would be lost in the wall of sound, but your context may be different. Just something to be aware of before making a final decision.

It does seem a bit curious and one-sided that that comments like "that's a really good deal" are welcomed yet comments pointing out potential issues are verboten. In my view the maximum transparency is best and occurs if both buyers and sellers do their research and comment freely.
