It's a great video & they are a good bass, had my 1964 500/1 for 24 years still going strong.
-
I used to take one & although I never used it it was nice to have it there just in case.
-
Before family came along I used to have between 4 & 5 basses at a time, was gigging a lot then sometimes miss those single days.
How old is the Macca doll?
Not that old 1989-90 I bought it from the Beatles shop in Mathew Street. Here is another picture of him with the violin bass headstock & swingtag.

My collection has gone from 4 to 2 basses now, and I'm glad in a way. I have just sold my MIJ / MIM Fender Precision & Ampeg BA115 Combo, and I have given my Daughter my 1989 Squier Precision to learn on. The basses that are left are my May 1964 Hofner Violin bass (owned for 24 years), and my October 1992 Rickenbacker 4003 (owned for 12 years). I have had around 8 basses in the last three years and after reading, threads of people who were happy with 1 bass got me thinking. So I did reduce my collection but short of a family emergency these 2 are going nowhere soon...
Correct, not a lot for the bassist. There was one stand with S/H, Stingray, Marleaux and Rick but that was about it. Oh yes and Dupont had another good presence and along with all the Gypsy Jazz guitars was a rather nice acoustic bass http://www.acoustic-..._acoust_pop.jpg. A few other Rics, Warwicks and a couple of custom jobs. Watched The ZZ Tops - very good tribute act. My mate bought a 1950 Gibson L5 (the one on the first stand as you walked through the door). All in all not a bad 4 hrs for £7 though.
Saw the L5 & the ZZ Tops and they were excellent, first time I've seen/heard a Fender Aerodyne Jazz bass.

Anyone else here going to this today, I'm looking forward to see what Bass guitars and bass gear are there.

My October 1992 4003 bought by my Girlfriend for me in August 1998 for £650. Bought a 4001 V63 scratchplate & vintage knobs and was given a V63 treble pickup surround. I am tempted to have it resprayed Jetglo & returned to a 4003 with the correct scratchplate and treble surround.
-
IIRC mine cost £87.50 secondhand back in August 1987, it was all I could afford back then.
-
My first bass was a Marlin Sidewinder KB-24, with the single J pickup at the bridge. Mine was the white one always wanted the red one though, for £21 you can't lose I liked it as a first bass if I could get one at that price I would if only for nostalga.
-
Yes though it was the Hofner I liked first, loved the shape & look of it. And growing up in the late 70's & early 80's Ric's were everywhere, Foxton, lemmy,Lee & my bass hero Squire.

Just a quick picture of both my Precision's 1989 Squier Precision MIK, I don't play this now but it's still a lovely bass. ? Fender Precision MIJ / MIM, MIJ PB-57 body & a '08 MIM neck plus Fender upgrades Love it.
Nice one, i used to have an identical one, lovely basses, necks too thin for me to play regularly though, Very nice example you have there!!
Thanks Rick I don't play it much now, I get it out maybe a couple of times a year, just to look at, the neck is to thin for me now. Maybe I'll play it again when I retire.

My May 1964 Hofner Violin Bass, which I have owned since Nov 1988.

Here is my MIJ / MIM Fender Precision it's nothing special but I love this bass, it's battered scratched & dented (by it's previous owners) but it sounds and feels great. I posted this in the main bass forum, but as this is just for Precision's then it should be here. The best thing about this bass bar for the fact that looking after it isn't unnecessary, it's that all of the upgrades & the bass cost less than a new Squier Standard or CV Precision.
-
My MIJ / MIM Fender Precision does it all for me now, total simplicity plus it,s light weight & the bass including the upgrades cost less than a brand new Squier Precision.

I have had a couple of Squier's all of them where the Korean made ones from the late 80's, I still have one a 1989 Precision made by Samick. I would say that the MIK models were as good as the present Squier Standard models. I hardly use it now but as it was a gift from my girlfriend (twice) it stays even if it's under the bed.
your missing the thumbrest
Yes above the E string I'm going to a guitar show in May might pick one up just for the overall look, I'm a pick player myself though.

See what you mean about the scratchplate.
This, but go over the headstock very lightly first with some fine wire wool. That dulls the gloss coat and will give something for the tea to "take" to. It can work, but its very hit and miss. But if nothing else its an excuse for a cuppa!
Would the same be true if you used brown shoe polish?

Thanks Fat Rich I have nothing to loose, so I'll put the kettle on and see what happens.
-
Thank you tredders this is the look I'm going for.
-
And After thanks Andy now I have a battered 70's styled Fender Precision bass, for less than the cost of a Squier CV and never having to worry about looking after it I love it, just waiting for the head stock to darken a little.

Last year I got a Fender Precision bass from a good friend of mine, who built it from a MIJ PB-57 body that was left battered and beaten in the back yard of a pub. He bought a 2008 MIM neck & an Alnico P pickup & an active Basslines J pickup, wired it together then I got it from him. Anyhow the PJ look was not for me & as the body was in a bad way, I started to think about turning it into my own Road worn 70's rocker. The plan was simple take out the active J pickup and battery holder, fill in these holes just spray where they had been (this didn't have to be perfect) add a b/w/b scratchplate, CTS pots & orange cap and jack socket, and a early 1970's decal and neck plate. My friend Andy who I got the bass from set to work for me and I have the bass back now and it plays great, and as it is beaten I do not have the worry of knocking it or anything happening to it. And Andy has given it a great set up low buzz free action, intonation spot on,and as it's lighter than my Ric 4003 it is being used more often. I am tempted to add the 2 screws either side of the bridge for a more authentic look, and maybe some vintage style tuners down the line. If anyone has an early 70's P and notices that I have missed something please let me know, any how here is some before and after pictures. Before
