1. Are the bodies on the Squier CV the same thickness as the Fender MIM.
2. Thank you flyfisher the truth is though, that I have gone through at least 20 basses to get to the 5 you see. And even now looking back at the money I've wasted on basses which I got rid of (at a loss) anoy's me. I really like the idea of one bass, remember the line 6 bass advert 24 basses in one.
3. That was great, note to self MUST PRACTISE MORE. Have you thought about posting this on the EBMM forum.
4. Thank you ezbass I've had a few Jazz basses, but never owned a Gibson bass.
5. I would love to be happy with 1 bass, but 2 of my basses were bought by my girlfriend. The daft thing is that until I saw this forum & TB I only had 2 basses, in the last 2 years it went up to 7 basses now it's down to 5.
6. Nice looking bass.
7. That is an amazing amp,I would love one myself.
8.
what he said
Even though it looked & sounded great, I made a decision a few years ago after buying a couple of 5 strings & not getting used to it to stick with 4 strig basses.
9. Today I went into one of the guitar shops where I live, & they have a secondhand Gray Musicman SUB 5 for dale at £449. The neck felt nice on it & the B string sounded good as well, I had never seen the 5 string version before it was a nice bass.
10. One bass which I regretted buying even on the bus journey home with it was a Hohner Professional J bass Fretless. It was heavey, neck never felt good to play & it never sounded that good.o I I was that gutted that I bought it instead of the good Sx precision that was in the shop at the same time,I hid it at the side of the wardrobe so I did'nt have to look at it. I saw it on Ebay about a month ago whoever bought it after me regretted it as well. Here is a picture of the bass being played like an upright by my son.
11. For me I was never a big fan of the Stingray until I got my SUB. Now after a scratchplate, battery & string change, it is close enough for me to satisfy my EBMM cravings.
12. The SUB is a great bass.
13. There is a HW1 in one of the guitar shops where I live so I may go there on Saturday & have a go of it. Like Boombass said I avoided Precisions for almost 20 years, due to the facts that they were everywhere (copies included) & I thought they looked plain and bulky. Yet here I am now playing my Squier & badly wanting a Fender, and asking my girlfriend if I can have money for Christmas to go towards my Fender fund.
14. I have heard a lot of good things regarding the CIJ basses, & I know that a name on a headstock does not make it better but in this case I will have to get a secondhand Fender Precision. This is why I'm going down the secondhand route just in case after saving up & it's not quite what I was thinking it would be. But there are a lot of upgradable parts you can get for the Precision unlike my Ric 4003.
15. No it was only posted to show that there are some bargins out there. I was in Rhyl in North Wales last Saturday & in the CC shop there, they had a Johnson MM copy in red with a maple neck for £99 check their website.
16. Love the 2002 MIM & here is a picture of my '89 MIK Squier with my other basses.
17. That 57 RI is a great looking bass, though I think I would spend more time looking at it rather than playing it.
18. I meant no disrespect at all to any Squier owners, the only thing that bugs me about my Squier is that the body (to me) looks slimmer than a MIM or MIA and even the Squier CV. I could be wrong as I am not as clued up on the P bass as others are. You read threads about bassists being really happy with their Squier Affinity P, & I'm envious that I can't be that happy unless it's the real thing ( It's just me I guess). Plus the one big thing for me regarding the Precision was the 70's headstock logo,to this day I still think it's the best one that was on a Precision.
19. I think you maybe right,I do want to own one don't get me wrong the Squier is a nice bass BUT I would guess that the Fender version would be better.
20. Recently I have had really bad GAS for a Precision bass, which is strange considering that when I started learning the bass guitar back in 1987 the only basses for beginners were either P or J style. So for the next 20 years I tried to avoid these type of basses, right up until Christmas 2008. My girlfriend bought me back my old 1989 Squier Precision & since then the urge for either a secondhand MIM or HW1 Precision has been driving me mad,& I can't understand why. There even seems to be more threads regarding P basses, is there a renewed interest in the Precision or is it that after 23 years I may just like the simple passive beauty of one pickup & one volume and tone.
21. Cash Converters & other type shops have the odd bargin from time to time check their websites.
22. That is the best looking Stingray I have ever seen, well done on finding the bass of your dreams.
23. Thanks for the reply, maybe I'm being picky about the body thickness your right though it is a nice bass to play.
24. I recently had my 1989 Korean made Squier Precision fixed, I had a new white nut fitted & the electrics fixed and a setup, after I had messed it up trying to fit a new scratchplate. The bass sounded really nice & I was surprised just how good it felt. The only thing that bugs me about it is that the body is slightly slimmer than the MIM or MIA P basses, has anyone had or used a MIK Squier & what were your thoughts on this bass. I've considered saving for a MIM Precision mainly due to it being a better bass or am I just being picky thanks in advance.
25. This has turned out to be a good thread,I love the humour in some of the answers. Luckily for me my girlfriend has her own laptop & does not know what bass forums I visit (I hope).
